The middle of yesterday
featured rain, but the ends were dry.
The afternoon temperature, in the
rain, reached 9° C.
It is definitely cold this
morning, just over 3° C, but it is
nice and sunny. The sunshine should
almost last until sunset, but the
temperature may only rise to 7° C this
afternoon. Tomorrow may start cold and
grey, and by 2pm it could be raining
again. There may be a brief peak of 6°
C in the afternoon.
Yesterday was mildly exciting,
but I described the best (and worst)
bits of yesterday morning yesterday.
The rest of the day was less exciting,
and even included a horror !
I resume my narrative roughly
where I finished yesterday - the
afternoon. I seemed to spend a lot of
time just being lazy in the afternoon,
but my laziness was interrupted by the
arrival of an email from the Lewisham
Cardiology Department, and
specifically the Cardiac
Rehabilitation nurse. It was rather
disturbing, but maybe there is some
sort of hope. The Cardiac
Rehabilitation Nurse I saw last time,
who I really took a dislike to, maybe
have moved on in the last 13 years.
The interesting thing about
that 13 years is that when I resigned
after one class I as told, very
sternly, that if I quite then I would
be back inside a year. Well, obviously
I have had more heart trouble since
then, but to last 13 years seems like
a triumph to me. She just did not
believe when I said I do loads of
walking exercise, and I did it because
I wanted to, and not because she
wanted me to do it.
The email included a
questionnaire, in PDF form, and I
think the idea was that I would fill
it in, email it back. It did try and
fill it in, but most boxes would not
accept any input. I had to print it
out, and fill it is by pen. There is
now way I am going to scan it, and so
maybe I might have to take it to the
hospital and drop it off at the
correct office - maybe tomorrow. I
shall find out more about it all in
half an hour when I expect a telephone
interrogation (or
appointment/discussion).
It says something about this
Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse, and the
course she conducts, that I lost a lot
of sleep last night worrying about it.
This time the exercises may be a bit
harder unless I have got my legs back
in good working order, but that does
not bother me. The waste of time does
bother me a lot, and if it is the same
nurse, her lack of tact and not
believing a single thing I say, really
grates ! I hardly lost any sleep when
I was due to have my heart valve
replaced, and I didn't lose any sleep
when I was due my gastric endoscopy -
a procedure I knew could be unpleasant
even with light sedation - which I
didn't get !
That email spoiled my
afternoon, but there were some
positive things, that may also be
negative depending on timing. I
recently ordered some stuff from
Amazon, and yesterday I learned that a
few things
may be delivered
today. I've just checked, and one item
is being delivered by Amazon, and so
could turn up at any time, but
probably very late in the afternoon.
Another item is coming via Royal Mail.
I assume it will be delivered by my
usual postman, although the Royal
Tracking says it is out for delivery
now, and so it could be coming in one
of their vans. Both these things will
put limits on what I can do today.
There is not much, or indeed
anything to add to what happened
yesterday afternoon, and so I'll move
on to dinner time. I had quite a big,
and yet fairly healthy dinner (and my
health readings this morning confirm
that). I started off roasting some
Mediterranean style vegetables, and a
bit later I microwave oven baked a
fair sized sweet potato. For my actual
dinner I split the baked sweet potato
into two halves and piled of the
vegetables plus some grated cheese.
I gave it 5 minutes in the
microwave to melt the cheese, and warm
the vegetables up because they had
gone cold while waiting for the potato
to cook. It looked quite a big dinner,
but it did not take long to eat it. I
could imagine of it was spread out
over the plate it would look a lot
less big than a small towering pile in
the middle of the plate. It was rather
delicious, and I must remember to do
something similar more often. The last
time I cooked a sweet potato could
have been 10 years ago !
It is now 2 minutes to 10am. I
wonder if my phone call will arrive on
time ? The answer is yes ! I had a 15
minute chat with the nurse, a
different nurse to 13 years ago, and
she seemed far more receptive to my
thoughts. I explained how last time I
resigned after one day because I
thought the exercises were very mild
compared to my commuting at the time.
I told her that I have already started
my walking exercises to strengthen my
legs, and she said that the classes
were not compulsory, and that if I was
happy to continue looking after my own
exercise she would discharge me. PHEW
!!!!
After my dinner I did my usual
and watched TV until I thought I felt
tired. I think it was around 10pm when
I went to bed. I laid in bed, and
tried to get comfortable. I did get
comfortable enough, but I could not
shut my brain up. I was really
stressing about the Cardiac
Rehabilitation classes. I did
eventually get to sleep. I woke up
several times in the night for a pee,
and I think it was about 3 or 4am
when, after having a pee, my brain
started up again. I lost another 3 or
more hours sleep, and all because the
nurse 13 years ago had annoyed me so
much.
I was a little surprised when
after finally getting up, and doing my
health checks, that they were better
than expected. It seemed my dinner
last night really was healthy rather
then me desperately hoping it would be
healthy). My weight had dropped by
600gm this morning. That is 600gm less
than was recorded on my health records
by the nurse yesterday, and that was
(I think/hope) as much as 6kg less
than when I last saw the nurse at the
Group Practice (back last October).
Even my blood glucose wasn't
too bad this morning. I had readings
from my three meters of 8.1mmol/l,
8.3mmol/l, both good enough, and
9.2mmol/l. The later was one of those
times when one meter decides to differ
a lot from the other two. It is higher
than I would like, but not too bad.
I have a mixture of ideas for
stuff to do today. One thing I can
tackle soon after finishing writing is
to finish washing a single towel. I
started it yesterday, but I think it
needs 3 to 5 more rinses today before
I can hang it up to dry. It won't
matter if a parcel delivery arrives
while I am finishing that towel, but
it would matter if I was out shopping.
I had hoped to go shopping this
morning. Once the Royal Mail delivery
has taken place - probably around 1pm
if it is my regular postman, there
could be a small window of opportunity
to go to the shops, but only on the
assumption that Amazon will make their
delivery very late in the afternoon
(and occasionally it could be early to
mid evening). Sometimes Amazon can
give better information about delivery
times but it is very rare (their
drivers are too busy following their
sat-nav, and driving into the sea near
Southend according to a news item on
TV last night).
