As the forecast says, this
morning started both cool and cloudy. The
cloud is slowly dissipating now, and the
temperature is beginning to rise. By late
afternoon it will be
above
30° C, but
maybe only by one degree
no more according to the latest revision.
Today the bright sun will probably bake my
bedroom again. It is tomorrow when things get
interesting. It will be another very sunny day
with temperature possibly reaching 32° C, but
at some time there could be a thunderstorm. No
time is predicted for this thunderstorm, and I
guess it is only predicted because the
ingredients are there if the weather should
decide to use them. Curiously enough, the BBC
forecast agrees with the temperature
prediction, and also warns of thunderstorms at
some unpredictable time. The day after get the
same treatment.
Yesterday morning I was feeling
tired, and although I speculated that I might
end up going for a walk, I didn't. I just felt
lazy.....or maybe it wasn't lazy but just
ordinary tired. I did try and snooze several
times, but I don't think I actually fell
asleep, although I was definitely laying on my
bed with my eyes closed several times.
Although it was still very warm in my bedroom,
it was not the furnace heat of the previous
day, and in a way it was enjoyable to lay
there not sweating.
Before I got too lazy I did do several
chores. I had a shower, and while I didn't
actually wash it (and I don't know why not) I
rinsed some of the sweat out of my hair. I
also watered the garden, and inspect it for
more cat or fox poo. I am happy to report I
didn't see any new little deposits. My final
chore before relaxing was to wash a couple of
t-shirts and some underwear.
Yesterday I actively tried to conserve
my dwindling stocks of Diet Coke. For most of
the day I was drinking squash, but before the
squash I found an unopened bottle of sparkling
mineral/spring water in the fridge. (I thought
it was a bottle I had refilled at first). I
really don't like warm and flat tap water, and
prefer to drink it chilled, but the
sparkling water, essentially soda water, was
really nice. That set me off on an
investigation.
I logged onto Amazon and had a look at
what was on offer for soda water makers. Most
were quite expensive, and most were so because
they were big fancy things that looked more
like some of the weird and wonderful lager
dispensers in pubs. I found a couple that were
very basic, and a lot cheaper. Out of a choice
of four identical looking units I bought the
cheapest for around £22. I also ordered 30 CO²
bulbs for it while I was at it. It didn't seem
too outrageous an investment even if the
novelty wears off, but providing the things
doesn't fall apart or explode, I reckon I will
be using it a lot even when summer is over.
I felt very hungry yesterday. It was
probably mostly boredom, but maybe not 100%
boredom. At lunchtime I wanted something
exciting, but not too heavy. My choice
was possibly a bit weird on a hot day, but I
opted for a couple of cans of soup. The first
can was one I had been thinking about for a
day or two. It was lentil and bacon soup. I
don't think it was a very good recipe,
probably not enough bacon, but it was still
nice. The second soup was one well past it's
"Best Before" date. I found it behind other
cans. It was a German inspired sausage soup. I
can't remember what the actual description
was, but it did have some sliced sausage along
with a lot of marrowfat peas in it. It was
very enjoyable.
I'm sure I had some sort of snack mid
afternoon, but I can't think what it might
have been - probably just a chunk of cheese.
Dinner, part one, was cold chicken shish
kebab. It was nice, but I wanted more, and so
I followed it with two Pink Lady apples with a
chunk of cheese. (I find apple and cheese goes
together so well that I rarely eat apples
without some cheese). An hour or so after that
I found myself eating a packet (from within a
packet) of sugar free vanilla wafers. I have
to admit I ate them mechanically with little
enjoyment. In a strange way they were a
substitute for a cigarette.
I had a couple of large vodka and Diet
Cokes as a nightcap before going to bed. By
that time my bedroom was feeling quite warm,
although it may have just been the food and
vodka that made me feel that way. It was also
feeling stuffy despite the window being open.
There seems to be almost no wind at all to
stir the air up. I initially slept with the
fan blowing on me, but some time in the early
hours of the morning I woke up feeling a bit
cold....or bits of me felt cool. Other bits
didn't seem to. Judging by how damp my pillow
was this morning (and during the night) I
think my face was still feeling hot and sweaty
all night.
I can't make up my mind if I slept well
or not last night. I think I may have woken up
quite a lot during the night. Sometime it was
in response to noises coming in the open
window. My neighbours woke me up at 5.20am
when they drove off somewhere. They seems to
be back an hour or so later. It feels like it
would be nice to get more deep sleep this
morning, but maybe that is just because
Sunday's are traditionally very boring, and it
would be good to sleep through the whole day.
Some of my plans for today are already
in action, and one has been completed. I have
had a shower, and washed my hair properly. It,
and the rest of my body feels so good after
getting all the stale sweat off it. At the end
of the shower I started the process of washing
a t-shirt. I am washing this one by itself
because it is white, and I don't want to wash
it with a red towel I will be washing next.
That white t-shirt has some mystery stains on
it. They could almost have been drops of
blood, but were more likely Guinness or
something. There is a light splatter of brown
dots, and a more dense one that seems to have
originated from inside the pocket of this
t-shirt. I cannot imagine what happened there.
The big question today is whether I
will be going out for a walk. Last night I
checked a map to look at alternative ways of
getting to Blackheath. There does seem to be a
slightly shorter route, but not by much. I
want to try it, but maybe not under a blazing
sun. My feeling at the moment is that I
probably won't go for a walk today even though
I really do need the exercise. I'll see how I
feel after I have watered the garden, and done
the laundry.
