There was very little to cheer about yesterday's weather, although there was one thing that at least deserved some polite applause. The afternoon temperature was quite mild at 16 to 17° C. Other than that it was a very grey day. As far as I can remember, and I wasn't always paying attention to what was happening outdoors, it was a dry day.
black clouds with the potential for
                                heavy rain this afternoon

The most notable thing about this weather forecast is the appearance of black clouds. I can't recall seeing anything worse than dark grey clouds for ages. The latest revision to the forecast only shows black cloud at midday and 1pm. 11am is now shown as dark grey, and maybe just light rain. From 2pm until sunset there is a small chance of sunny intervals, and a fair chance of light showers ! The latest revision has the temperature peaking at 11am today, and it may be no higher than 15° C. From 2pm it will start to cool off, but it seems it will be another almost mild night. Tomorrow may reach 17° C by sunset, but any sunshine is unlikely, while light rain for most of the day is very likely !

A lot of yesterday seems to be a blank in my memory. I think it was because there was not a lot to remember in the morning, and the first hours of the afternoon. Reading back what I wrote yesterday morning reminds me that I do something constructive....in a quick and minor sort of way. I prepared spreadsheets for all my health measurements for November. There is no particular reason why I keep these spreadsheets except they could come in handy if I do end up under medical care for something. I think they were useful when I had my one week stay in hospital in July last year. A record of my body temperature taken 4 or 5 time a day could be interesting to pinpoint the time if I start dying of Covid-19.

Unlike the day before, I didn't have a big breakfast (or brunch) to help soak up the afternoon's beer. I did have something around lunchtime, and I think it may have been two small Coxes apples, half a carrot, and a chunk of cheese for added flavour. It probably worked because I didn't get too drunk yesterday afternoon. Once again it was ameeting of my "support bubble" - Michael and Jodie. Michael did a bit of shopping for me before popping in. It was just one item bought from Tesco.

I have yet to try going to Tesco, but I believe they are relaxed about people who can't wear masks, and I probably could shop in there with no trouble. I may try it next week. It was while rummaging in my trouser pocket for money to pay Michael that I came across something I meant to mention yesterday.
trolley token
It was a trolley token that I found in my pocket. When I went to Aldi the day before yesterday I noticed something shiny in the coin slot of a trolley, and that the trolley was unchained and ready to use. After doing my shopping I parked my trolley, and when I put the chain in the socket the shiny thing popped out a bit more, and I could easily extract it. It is pictured above. What I am unsure about is whether it being left in the trolley was a pure accident, or whether it was a sort of advert for pet adoption (presumably for unwanted or lost pets). It is a sort of potentially useful thing to have, and now I am wondering if I will use it as a "trolley dolly" as someone called it (although I thought "trolley dollies"  were airline hostesses).

Yesterday afternoon's drink was a most pleasant affair. I had the company of Michael and Jodie (for the second time this week), and we had a nice selection of booze. One of the beers I had bought from Aldi the day before was a 750ml bottle of Abbey style beer in a bottle with a wired cork (like a Champagne bottle). I wouldn't go as far as to say it was wonderful, but it was exceedingly drinkable !

I started cooking my dinner after Michael went, but before Jodie went home (she is slowly coming to believe that my dinner time is 6pm, but hasn't quite got there yet !). It was slightly odd dinner - semi good quality beefburgers with flavoured rissotto rice and asparagus. The asparagus was the bottom half of the stems. Jodie had bought the asparagus after seeing it with a reduced price sticker on it in a supermarket. She thought the bottom of the stem might be tough, and only used the top half to go with her dinner (or was it lunch on her time scale - GMT+ about 5 hours, or maybe - 5 hours. All I know it is different to my time scale).

After microwaving the asparagus in some water for 5 minutes they seemed fine to me. They might even have been a fair accompaniment to beef burgers and flavoured risotto rice. The rice took a very long time to cook in the microwave. Maybe it was after reading the cooking instructions, and seeing how long it would take (24 minutes, with a stir half way through), that I didn't use it earlier. I must have bought the well sealed foil packet 5 or more years ago. It was actually quite nice.

It should have been a very filling dinner, but after watching an hour or so of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine I fancied some dessert. It seems to be an awful habit I have picked up. Dessert came in the form of dark chocolate (actually dark, and not laden with huge amounts of sugar) with hazelnuts in it. It was rather nice, and my fears about it still containing far too much sugar for me were unfounded.

I stayed up reading until about 10pm, and very quickly fell asleep when I turned the light out. Somehow I ended up having the closest to a perfect sleep I have had in what seems like years and years. I have a vague recollection of getting up to pee twice in the night, and a vague recollection of having some sort of dream, but essentially nothing happened until I woke up just as it was getting light.

The first thing I did was to go to the toilet (as usual), and the second thing was to go down to the kitchen. Another thing I forgot to mention yesterday was the ongoing sage of the mouse in my kitchen. I am sure I mentioned how I has been down to the kitchen early in the evening, and with the kitchen light left on while I wasn't in it, and twice saw a mouse trying to get into the container with some food peelings and similar in it. Both time the mouse didn't stop to look back before it dived down behind the counter top.

That first night I baited some traps with peanut on one, and half a peanut on another. The next morning the whole peanut had gone, but the trap hadn't been triggered. The next night I baited the traps, three this time, with a smear of Nutella. The following morning none had been touched, but the mouse had started nibbling on the last bit of a head of broccoli. I cleared that away, and cleaned and disinfected the worktops. This morning none of the traps had been triggered, and none of the Nutella appeared to have been touched - and no mouse droppings were in sight anywhere. I feel the battle will continue.

Once again I did not dare check my weight. I assume it is pretty terrible, although maybe I was almost careful enough for it not to go up yesterday. I am thinking that it won't start to drop again until the warmth of spring arrives. However, there is good news about my blood glucose level. This morning it was down a fair bit to 8.3mmol/l. That is still too high, but a far  more same level than the 9.0mmol/l of the day before. Depending on what I do, and what I eat, I might get it down to under 8 tomorrow.

Now the big question is what will I do today. Although there was a few minutes of sunshine just now, something not shown in the weather forecast, both the Met Office, and the BBC agree that in one way of another, this afternoon is going to be very wet. I feel very sure I will be staying in again. One thing I will be doing, and doing it soon this morning, is to prepare a November 2020 page for this blog, or whatever all this rubbish that I write is called. This afternoon I may play with old PCs again....or I may lay on my bed reading and snoozing....or......
