Lockdown day 252 Shopping embargo day 88 130 09:07 GMT I think the lack of the forecast mist was a bit of a disappointment yesterday morning....although I can't really say why. Mist is not so interesting as a thick fog ! The whole day was just grey and overcast - even when it was just 100% light coloured cloud which is not officially "overcast". Mostly it was very grey, although I have a nagging feeling I did spy 23 seconds of very hazy sunshine at one point, but I could be confusing it with another day. It was certainly a very chilly day. the temperature never rose above 8° C at any time, and in fact it was 8° C nearly all day. The forecast got he mist
right this morning, although it is a very tenuous
mist, and can really only be seen as a haze in the
far distance. Just to make things rather strange,
the latest revision to the forecast says that we
should have just emerged from fog, but I was
outdoors at the time, and all I saw was a misty
haze in the distance. The latest revision omits
any mention of rain, but does change many of the
white clouds to grey clouds. After a chilly start
the temperature should finally rise to about 10° C
around sunset, although, of course, 10° C is still
rather chilly. The weather changes a lot tomorrow.
The clouds should disappear, and the day will be
sunny. It will also be very cold with the
afternoon struggling to reach 7° C.
Yesterday was another day that could have been very dull and boring, and to a certain extent it did start that way (not counting my early shopping visit to the little supermarket on Catford Bridge). I very slowly started to do stuff, and by early to mid evening I was almost busy. All the describable details of my day, my evening, my night, and what I have already done this morning, are written in my full archive page for today. |

2020 |
Lockdown day 251 Shopping embargo day 88 129 10:06 GMT I could sum up yesterday's weather by just saying it was cold and dull, and quite often dull was actually gloomy, but I suppose I should add more details, and I would if only there was something worth remembering. All I can really add was that the afternoon temperature was about 10° C. There was no mist around
these parts this morning, but the rest of the
forecast is probably about right. The latest
revision to the forecast say the whole day will be
overcast. Overcast on the Met Office means that
the sky will be 100% grey. Apparently 100% light
coloured cloud is not overcast. Fancy
getting to this stage in your life and discovering
that until now you had been wrong ! Today is one
of those days when the warmest part of the day is
in the morning, and it gets colder after that. I
don't think I could dispute that it was about 9° C
a bit earlier, and from now until almost midnight,
the temperature will be a flat 8° C. There is a
small, but unlikely chance of a shower at any time
today. Tomorrow will be various shades of grey all
day, but it will be warmer - just about. The last
4 or 5 hours of the day will see the temperature
climb to 10° C. There is also a 50% chance of rain
after sunset.
I don't know whether to describe yesterday as worse or better than the day before. I did predict that I would have another inactive day when I was writing yesterday morning. That was basically right, but it was one of those days when I did lots of very small, and easy jobs. Of course many of them did not exactly need any hard work, or even any work at all when considered from some perspectives. I've described some of things I did yesterday, and this morning, along with my musings TV last night, my sleep, plus what I have already done this morning in my full archive page for today. |

November 2020 |
Lockdown day 250 Shopping embargo day 88 128 10:06 GMT Yesterday's weather departed from any revision of the forecast - quite dramatically for a while ! The day started with fog or mist - from what I could see from my windows, it was more mist than fog. All versions of the forecast I saw said the mist would lift, and increase the density of the clouds, but there were no clouds....ok, there were still some clouds, but not enough to give 3 or maybe 4 hours of sunny spells and sunshine. Apart from the outdoor temperature only being in the region of 5° C (possibly almost 7 in my back garden), it was a most pleasant afternoon. For a short while it was spoilt by a brief, and very light shower of rain. Eventually thicker clouds did gather, and it seemed like sunset came an hour early. Today has certainly
started off as the forecast predicted. It is very
dull and grey, and at just 8° C it is far from
walk, or even mild. There is a small but
persistent threat of rain today. It's only a 10%
chance and so can probably be ignored. The cloud
may thin a little for a while at 1pm, but any
glimpse of the sun seems unlikely at any time
today....however, that's what they said about
yesterday ! At least today will be a little less
cold with the temperature expected to peak at 10°
C. Tomorrow is currently forecast to be just like
today, but one degree cooler.
Yesterday was yet another day of almost, but not completely, rest and relaxation. I did do a few useful things, but much of the day seemed wasted, and yet I didn't seem to feel bored. Despite all that I seem to have written quite a lot about yesterday, my night, and what I have thought about or done so far this morning. All those words are to be found written in my full archive page for today. |
Friday 27th November
2020 |
Lockdown day 249 Shopping embargo day 88 127 08:37 GMT Yesterday was dull and cold. There was a period of time in the late afternoon when the sky was 50% clear to the north. Unfortunately the sun was, as it always is, to the south ! The afternoon temperature probably didn't rise any higher than the forecast 8° C. The main weather feature
this morning is fog...or is it mist. I expect it
depends where you are. I would describe what I see
out of my window at the moment as mist, but it
could be foggy nearer the river. The fog/mist will
gradually lift to reveal a dull grey overcast day.
It is also going to be a very cold day. My garden
thermometer says 3° C rather than the forecast 2°
C, but one degree makes no difference to "bloody
cold !". It would seem that by 10pm it will
gradually warmed up to 8° C. Tomorrow could see
the temperature peak at about 11° C, and there
could be some sunshine or sunny spells in the
afternoon.
Yesterday was not as exciting as the day before. The one thing I did yesterday morning, I really had to do. It was to finish the laundry that had been soaking in detergent for the previous 24 hours. Other than that I did almost nothing apart from having a "bubble support" meeting with Jodie and a lot of beer, plus eating a rather delicious dinner after Jodie went home again. There is little to describe about my day, but what there is can be read in my full archive page for today. It also includes a few words as to why I did not sleep well, and my thoughts and plans for today. |

November 2020 |
Lockdown day 248 Shopping embargo day 88 126 08:38 GMT Most of yesterday was very dull, as per the forecast, but there was a very unexpected few minutes of sunshine just after midday. For a while the maximum temperature of 13° C didn't feel too bad, although it might have been because I was down by the river, and that has it's own micro-climate, and it may have been 14 or even 15° C there. I'm sure that earlier
forecast for today, as published yesterday,
predicted some sunshine for this afternoon, but
this morning, and the most recent revision, say
today will be unrelentingly dull. It is also going
to be rather cold. The middle of the day may be no
more than 8° C, and the rest of the day, up to
10pm, will be 7° C. No rail is specifically
predicted, but there is a 10% chance of rain at
any time today. Tomorrow could be mostly an even
deeper shade of grey, and colder still !
Once the weather got crap, as autumn descended upon us, I didn't really think I would be doing much walking, and even when I did, it felt like I was really out of condition. A walk that would seem easy and enjoyable in warm sunshine, felt like hard work, and was done with gritted teeth instead of a happy smile (sort of). Yesterday was the exception. Two previous walks, the last just the day before yesterday, had loosened up a few stiff joints, and warmed up some aching muscles. That made the going feel easier despite it being very dull with a slight threat of rain yesterday. The thing that really made a difference was that I had a purpose for yesterday's walk. That purpose was to see the Friends Of The River Pool working on the river, and see if I could learn more about what they were doing, and about the river in general. All the pertinent details of my 3 mile walk, plus my gluttonous dinner, my crap sleep, and my plans and observations this morning are written, with pictures to go with some of the narrative, in my full archive page for today. |

November 2020 |
Lockdown day 247 Shopping embargo day 88 125 08:52 GMT After a dull start there were plenty of sunny intervals almost towards the end of the afternoon (or sunset, as the end of the afternoon is now). While the sunshine was cheery, it didn't seem to carry much heat yesterday. It still felt cool even in the sunshine - although half the problem was that the sun was so low in the sky that it was difficult finding a place where the sun was not shadowed by buildings or trees. Even in direct sunshine the afternoon high of just 12° C still felt cool. Today's weather forecast
says today will not be a good day ! At least this
revision, and the latest revision, do not mention
the rain that was shown in yesterday's prediction
for today, although there is still a 10%, or even
20% chance for rain at any time today. About the
only good thing is that the temperature should
rise to 13° C after the day started at a fair 10°
C. Tomorrow may see a bit of light rain in the
very earliest hours of the day, but otherwise it
looks like it could be a much colder version of
today. The afternoon high may only be a chilly 8°
C !
Once again the sunshine lured me out of the house for a bit of exercise yesterday. It is a shame that although I was walking when the temperature was at it's highest, it still felt rather cool - even when standing in the sunshine. It was like the bright sun had no heat. I walked over three miles, and because some of it was over new ground, it was enjoyable. What was less enjoyable was having to stay awake, and alert for a parcel delivery after I got home from the walk. I describe more about the walk, and show some pictures taken on it, plus commentary on the rest of my day, my night, and my thoughts this morning, in my full archive page for today. |
Tuesday 24th
November 2020 |
Lockdown day 246 Shopping embargo day 88 124 08:49 GMT I'm not sure if the sunny intervals that cheered up the morning lasted until 1pm, which was the most up to date prediction I saw when writing yesterday. I remember the afternoon being quite dull, and also rather cool. The day started off almost, if not actually frosty, and only warmed up to about 10° C. Oh well, at least it was dry. It is starting to
brighten up now, and there has been one very short
sunny spell (30 seconds worth !), and this morning
has started off a whole one degree warmer than the
best that yesterday could offer. The most recent
revision to the forecast looks almost identical to
the screenshot above. It seems more and more
likely that it will be a bright and pleasant
afternoon. It is a shame the temperature may only
be 12° C at best, but even that might feel OK in
direct sunshine. Tomorrow could be a degree warmer
still, but it comes at the cost of gloomy skies,
and almost certainly some rain.
My day was impeded yesterday because I felt ill. It is not easy to describe just exactly how I felt ill. There were some physical symptoms, and they were generally similar to how you might describe 'flu in it's milder forms. It wasn't 'flu though, and I don't think it was covid either. If anything it was a cross between fatigue and malaise. In practice it meant I did very little yesterday morning (although I did go out shopping - and didn't feel too bad when doing it). I was semi-productive in the afternoon, and also began to feel better (probably because I was staring to be productive). Apart from the start of yesterday morning, that I described yesterday, I describe the rest of my day, show a video, comment on my dinner and sleep, plus how I feel this morning, and what I might do today, in my full archive page for today. |
Monday 23rd November
2020 |
Lockdown day 245 Shopping embargo day 88 123 09:08 GMT Yesterday was far better than expected....well it was expected based on the forecast made 24 hours earlier, but not on the morning revisions of the forecast. It was still rather cool, probably no more than the predicted 11° C, but virtually all afternoon saw mainly blue skies, and lots of sunshine. The only fly in the ointment was that at this time of the year, when the sun is so low in the sky, you really needed to be in a very clear spot to actually feel the warm sunshine. After a few days of boredom under grey, and sometimes wet skies, I was very happy for a change of scenery. I must admit I was doubtful that I would enjoy a long walk. I was feeling creaky, and didn't think I would want to walk very far. On the assumption that I might only walk a couple of miles I thought I would try and make it more worthwhile by taking my big Canon EOS 1200D DSLR camera with me. The idea being that I could take some great pictures. In that respect I was wrong. The reason why I was wrong, and how I ended up doing a much longer walk than I expected, are explained in my full archive page for today. As usual it also includes my evening, my night, and what I have already been up to this morning. |
Sunday 22nd November
2020 |
Lockdown day 244 Shopping embargo day 88 122 10:26 GMT At least yesterday was dry (or as good as - I seem to think there may have been a brief shower, but I can't recall when it might have been - id indeed it actually happened). That was second only good thing about the day. The first good thing was that it was almost mild out. Under a sometimes dark grey, and sometimes light grey, completely sunless sky, the temperature managed to rise to 13° C for a while. If I said that yesterday was a very bland day I would be repeating myself, and it isn't quite true because the blandness faded away by early evening. Prior to that the day was very bland. I did do a few things, including some very tasty cooking, yesterday, but not much that you could call productive. What I did do I have described, along with a couple of pictures in my full archive page for today. It also includes a fair bit about my evening, a brief description of my sleep, how I feel, and what I might do today. |
Saturday 21st
November 2020 |
Lockdown day 243 Shopping embargo day 88 121 10:39 GMT Yesterday started off cold enough for a frost - or what looked like frost. It might have been heavy dew, but my thermometer said it was only 2.4° C at head height. The day eventually warmed up to a still cold feeling 10° C. The whole day was overcast, although I noted yesterday that a total covering of white (or very light grey) cloud is officially just "cloudy", and not "overcast". I shall still call total cloud cover overcast if there is not the merest hint of the sun visible. Much of the day was officially overcast, but as far as I am aware there was no rain leaking from those nasty grey clouds. Yesterday was a very bland day. Yet another day when my get up and go got up and went without me ! I did do some laundry (as ever, by hand), and eventually I did some work on my old PC, and it is almost ready for use. The only other thing I did of particular note was to somehow eat carefully enough to reduce my blood glucose level to an excellent low figure. Somehow I have managed to write over half a page about yesterday, and another half a page about last night, and what I have already done this morning, and what I might do today. It is all in my full archive page for today. |
Friday 20th November
2020 |
Lockdown day 242 Shopping embargo day 88 120 09:06 GMT I think cold and grey best describes most of yesterday. There was a bit of sunshine in the morning, but not much, and it was mostly rather feeble. I think there was one light shower around midday, but the rest of the afternoon was dry, and cold, and dull, and getting colder ! After a 9° C start the temperature slowly fell through the whole day. By midnight it was only around 4° C. One of the odd things about yesterday was not unique to yesterday, but yesterday was a good example of how even a warm room can still feel cold when it is cold outside. This morning it was far colder than yesterday, but it was cold enough yesterday to slow me down, and I didn't do that much at all yesterday. I did a few things, and the most significant was a beer tasting session with Jodie in the afternoon. There are some pictures of the beers we drunk, and another rather less pleasant picture of the mouse I managed to trap, plus some commentary of the rest of the day, my night, and how much of this morning has been wasted, all in my full archive page for today. |
Thursday 19th
November 2020 |
Lockdown day 241 Shopping embargo day 88 119 08:43 GMT Yesterday was warmer and brighter than expected, although the brightness faded away mid afternoon. The brightness was often sunshine. The sunny periods lasted much longer than originally forecast. I guess they finished sometime after 1pm. The rain that was forecast did fall, but as far as I am aware it was not until just after sunset, and then a lot lighter, and maybe briefer than forecast. The temperature reached about 15° C, and seemed to stay that way for more than the single hour as shown in the forecast. Maybe it was for 2 or 3 hours. Having waited until I had come back from my exercise to write anything yesterday, I have already written about my exercise, or walk as I prefer to call it. What I can add today is a few photos taken on that walk. As well as the photos there are some notes about the photos plus some commentary on the rest of my day, a comment about the crap sleep I had, and some musings on what I might do today in my full archive page for today. |
Wednesday 18th
November 2020 |
Lockdown day 240 Shopping embargo day 88 118 14:32 GMT It was bright(ish) and there were sunny spells yesterday morning, but the afternoon was dull, and as far a I recall, dry. It was a fairly mild day starting at around 12° C, and slowly building to a broad peak of 14° C before slowly cooling back to 12° C. |
Tuesday 17th
November 2020 |
Lockdown day 239 Shopping embargo day 88 117 09:15 GMT I don't think any revisions to the weather forecast for yesterday showed that there would be over an hour of quite long sunny spells - so long in some cases that it could be said to be sunny at times. It started around midday, and soon after 1pm it was back to the forecast dull and cloudy weather. I don't think that sunny interlude did anything for the predicted 11° C. Something else that was unexpected, although it did appear in much later revisions to the forecast, and that was rain. I'm not sure what time it started, but it was possibly before 9pm. |
Monday 16th November
2020 |
Lockdown day 238 Shopping embargo day 88 116 09:29 GMT There was one nice period yesterday. Sometime a little before 1pm the sun broke through the clouds. Soon after that there was almost an hour of non stop sunshine, and then maybe an hour of sunny spells before the clouds covered the sky again. That lead to rain, and from time to time it was very heavy. Fortunately the heaviest downfalls were fairly brief. Sometime after dark, but I have no idea if it was the forecast time of 8pm, the rain dried up, and the rest of the night was dry - but rather cool. Yesterday morning was almost warm at around 14° C, but from as early as 8am the temperature slowly dropped to about 8° C at midnight. |
Sunday 15th November
2020 |
Lockdown day 237 Shopping embargo day 88 115 09:47 GMT There was definitely rain yesterday, but I think it was probably less than expected - which was heavy rain all day ! I even spotted some blue sky late in the afternoon. Unfortunately it was in the south east, and the sun was in the west, and so it still looked gloomy outside. The temperature was forecast to be a flat 14° C throughout the whole day, and I think it probably was. With no sunshine it was cool enough to need the heating on low all day. |
Saturday 14th
November 2020 |
Lockdown day 236 Shopping embargo day 88 114 09:05 GMT The weather wasn't that bad yesterday. After a dull morning, with at least one splash of rain, the clouds broke up a bit in the afternoon, and there were sunny spells for much of the afternoon. The afternoon temperature was just 13° C again. Yesterday was not a day of great triumphs, but there was one. In the morning I tested my mini laptop after it had dried out from its soaking overnight, and it worked perfectly. The potentially productive thing I did yesterday was to transfer more video from old camcorder tapes to my computer. The only trouble is that I now have so much video to edit that it seems too much like hard work, and I don't want to do any of it....well not on a grey and wet, miserable sort of day. I write more about this, plus tales of booze deliveries, eating carefully, and the good results of that this morning, in my long winded, probably a bit boring at times, full archive page for today. |
Friday 13th November
2020 |
Lockdown day 235 Shopping embargo day 88 113 09:35 GMT Sunshine really made yesterday a totally different day to the day before. It was mostly only sunny spells, but many of those were very long spells. It made the day seem much happier, and it made 13° C feel almost warm - warm enough that I had my bedroom window open for an hour or two because the sun coming through the window raised the temperature in my bedroom to 25° C ! That felt very warm for this time of year. Of course it didn't last long before the sun had moved around the sky enough that it no longer shined directly through the window. One thing that spoilt it all was that it seemed dull and cloudy in the last hour or so before sunset. Yesterday was generally a good day, but one or two points were bad. I seemed to spend the morning flitting about doing a bit of this, and a bit of that, and at the end of it I really didn't have a lot to show for it. The afternoon featured some good boozing, and an annoying accident. The full commentary, or all the bits I can remember, and aren't 100% boring (but may still be 98% boring) of my day, evening, sleep, and morning thoughts are all recorded in my full archive page for today. |
Thursday 12th
November 2020 |
Lockdown day 234 Shopping embargo day 88 112 09:39 GMT The weather yesterday can be summed up as simply DULL ! The sun almost managed to punch a hole through the clouds once in the morning, but while bright, it was not bright enough to throw a shadow. The maximum temperature was 13° C, and I guess that wasn't too bad, but not even 25° C could excuse that dull grey sky. As midnight approached it started to rain, but the rest of the day was dry...and dull....and grey, and very, very depressing. Yesterday was a day when my get up and go, got up and went without me. I don't think I actually felt miserable, but I just couldn't find any motivation to do anything. I had to force myself to start a video editing project, but by dinner time I had made very little progress in it. I feels like I spent most of my time laying on my bed reading. There were some confounding factors beyond the horrible grey sky that drained all my enthusiasm. I explain all I can explain, and there is other commentary in my full archive page for today. It also includes the usual stuff like how well my sleep was, or not, and my thoughts this morning. |
Wednesday 11th
November 2020 |
Lockdown day 233 Shopping embargo day 88 111 09:08 GMT Yesterday afternoon was probably sunny enough to go for a pleasant walk in the sun. The day actually started a bit dull, and the afternoon only featured sunny spells, or intervals, but with the afternoon temperature reaching 15° C it seemed a nice enough day. The big thing yesterday was waiting for two lots of booze to be delivered. Much of my day was actually spent transferring Hi8 Camcorder footage to my laptop using the new video capture box and software. It worked well. The details about the booze, the video software, and a sample video (with appalling camerawork), plus the rest of my day, night, and my thoughts this morning, are all in my full archive page for today. |
Tuesday 10th
November 2020 |
Lockdown day 232 Shopping embargo day 88 110 08:59 GMT The weather was almost pretty grim yesterday. The only thing that made it just slightly grim was the afternoon temperature of around 16° C. That is still some way from being warm, but it was definitely mild. The rest of the weather consisted of clouds, more clouds, and sometimes very dark clouds with an occasional shower thrown in to remind us of what clouds do best. Yesterday was all about transferring analogue video to my PC (and laptop) (after my shopping trip to Aldi). I am happy to report that the new video capture box successfully transferred digital video, via USB to my Linux PC. There were a few problems, but overall it was looking to be useful. I describe the problems and triumphs, plus what little else I did yesterday, my rather bland sleep, and my thoughts and plans this morning in my full archive page for today. |
Monday 9th November
2020 |
Lockdown day 231 Shopping embargo day 88 109 09:54 GMT The only good thing that can be said about yesterday's weather is that, in relative terms, it was a mild day....even very slightly warm if you apply enough imagination. other than that, it was relentlessly dull, and by 6pm it was drizzling. That almost warm, afternoon temperature was very close to 15° C. It may have even been 15° C ! During yesterday morning I began to feel bad. Some odd little twinges made me wonder of I was fighting off a viral infection. If I was, my body didn't raise it's temperature to help. For most of yesterday my temperature was under 36° C, and that is well under the 37.8° C which seems to now be accepted as the fever temperature for Covid-19. I think that in actuality I was suffering from a lack of hot sunshine, and a lack of sleep. I started to feel better when a parcel I was waiting for was delivered, and soon after, drinking beer with Jodie. Beer seemed to be the complete cure ! The full story, or as much as can be told, or stretched out to make it seem less boring, plus my evening, sleep, and what I have already done this morning can be read in my full archive page for today. |
Sunday 8th November
2020 |
Lockdown day 230 Shopping embargo day 88 108 09:19 GMT The weather forecasts continue to be wildly inaccurate. I would describe yesterday as sunny, and that is not what any revision of the forecast predicted - although it did eventually forecast sunny spells for most, but not all the afternoon. I seem to recall there were moments of doubt in the morning, but by, and maybe before the afternoon started, the sun came out, and except for an occasional short lived period when the sun became hazy, the sun was shining bright up to sunset. I have a feeling that all that sunshine raised the temperature another degree or two higher than the predicted afternoon high of 13° C. I planned to go for some sort of walk yesterday. My original intention was to start with a quick walk to Ladywell and back, and then maybe go out again a bit later, with more appropriate boots, for a walk in the River Pool Linear Park. In fact I did both parks in one continuous walk. It was a tiny fraction under a 4.4 mile walk. The full details, with pictures, plus the rest of my day, evening, night, and the start of this morning, are described in my full archive page for today. |
Saturday 7th
November 2020 |
Lockdown day 229 Shopping embargo day 88 107 09:41 GMT Much of yesterday was overcast, but the sun eventually came out, rather later than forecast, just a couple of hours before sunset. At least it made for a pretty, but not dramatic pretty, sunset. The rest of the day, but before the sun came out, and after sunset, lacked any form of inspiration - and it felt cold. If it actually reached the predicted value it may have been just 11° C, but with no sunshine until late afternoon it may have been a degree or two cooler (I neglected to check). I think I spent far too long just waiting for the sun to appear yesterday. The consequence of that was that I did very little of anything yesterday. The only real thing I did was to wash a couple of t-shirts, and a few other bits and pieces. One other little time waster was to rip (or possibly re - rip) a load of old music magazine cover mounted CDs. I must admit it doesn't sound much, and that was probably because it wasn't, but I did take a few pictures of sunset. Those pictures, plus a longer description of my day, night, and the start of this morning, can be seen in my full archive page for today. |
Friday 6th November
2020 |
Lockdown day 228 Shopping embargo day 88 106 09:08 GMT After a cold and foggy start, yesterday warmed up to no more then 9° C, and the fog lifted to reveal a cold grey sky. The early forecast showing some sunshine or sunny spells was revised to show one solitary sunny spell, and I can't recall even that happening. It may not have been winter, but it was a good imitation of winter. 20201106.html
View from the back bedroom window at approx 8am. I went out twice yesterday, and neither time was for exercise. The first time was to go shopping for beer (and other stuff) in Aldi, and I wrote about that yesterday morning. The second time was to go to the pharmacy. A bit later in the afternoon it was time for the "Thursday Club" - my support bubble/counselling/beer drinking session with Jodie And Michael. It could have been the last visit from Michael for a month because he is under family pressure to treat the latest lockdown rather harshly. The full details of my day, my night, and the start of today can be read in my full archive page for today. |
Thursday 5th
November 2020 |
Lockdown day 227 Shopping embargo day 88 105 09:45 GMT The air was far from warm yesterday, but in the dawn to dusk sunshine it felt quite warm - particularly if you were wearing mainly black, and standing in the sunshine ! I think the afternoon temperature didn't rise any higher than 11° C, but the sunshine made walking with bare arms very comfortable. After a few days of being mostly inactive, and fairly lazy, yesterday was a busy day ! I washed bath towel, I went on an almost 5 mile walk in the sunshine, and I cooked roast chicken thighs and sprouts. The full version of my day, with lots of pictures, plus the evening, the night, and what I have already done this morning, can be seen in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 226 Shopping embargo day 88 104 08:33 GMT Yesterday turned out to be a lot sunnier than I had anticipated. After a cold, grey, wet, and soggy start to the day the sun started to come out, and by midday there were many sunny spells, some quite long, for most of the afternoon. By mid afternoon the temperature had slowly increased from a cold 8° C in the morning to a cold 10° C. I realise, with the benefit of hindsight, that I missed out a chance for a walk in not just the dry, but mostly in sunshine yesterday. It's funny how the start of the day can colour your entire opinion of the day. I ended up staying in doing very little, but "very little" is not the same as nothing. I did achieve a little during the day, and my eating regime, while not that good, did achieve one desired outcome. The story of my day, my evening, my sleep, and my thoughts this morning are all written in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 225 Shopping embargo day 88 103 08:46 GMT Yesterday was a day that seemed to feature more sunshine, and more showers than appeared in the forecast. It was one of those days where I kept think I ought to be out in that golden sunshine, and then, 5 minutes later, realising I had made the correct decision to stay in as another shower swept in. That makes it sound a little wetter than it actually was. If I had timed it correctly I could have had almost a couple of hours of mostly bright and dry weather for a walk, but it could have been cutting things a bit fine. Yesterday was also a day when the temperature profile was almost upside down. The warmest part of the day was the morning when it was 17° C. From then on the temperature steadily dropped until it was in single figures a couple of hours before midnight. The BBC (Meteogroup) forecast predicts rain until morning, and overcast from then until nearly sunset. I can imagine that is true to the south of here. The latest Met Office forecast predicts it to be more lightly overcast until about 3pm, but with a 30% chance of a shower at 1pm. It also says that the last two hours of daylight will feature sunny spells. The BBC version says that the last hour before sunset will be sunny. Both forecasts say the day started at around 8° C, and will peak in the afternoon at just a rather cool 10° C. Tomorrow is likely to start almost cold enough for a frost, but clear skies will make it a very sunny day (for the meagre hours of daylight we no get), and that sunshine could raise the temperature to very slightly more than today, or 11° C. I didn't realise it at a conscious level, but maybe going shopping in Aldi, and ordering my next repeat prescription from the pharmacy, seemed to be enough for one day. I found that all my enthusiasm, if indeed I started with any, had drained away by mid morning. I blame it on the instability of the weather. I stayed in, and did a few chores, but mostly I was lazy. Today could be a repeat of yesterday. Read all about yesterday, how dull my dreams were, and my thoughts about this morning in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 224 Shopping embargo day 88 102 09:27 GMT I had a crazy idea that I might go for a walk sometime around midday, but that was before the heavens opened at about 11.30am. That rain was very heavy for at least 20 minutes, but then it slackened off to become little more than drizzle. I'm not sure when it eventually fizzled out, but it was well after midday, and maybe more like 1pm. From then on I tried to pay as little attention to the outside world as possible - except on one occasion when my attention was drawn to the windows by 5 minutes of sunshine. Soon after that there was some more light rain. The forecast for yesterday was very wrong, although the temperature did reach the fabled 17° C by, or soon after sunset. As I look out the window I find the idea of sunshine this afternoon very unlikely, but with a keen wind blowing the clouds all over the place, I guess anything could happen. One thing seems certain, and that is that even now, when by tradition it should be warming up, it is actually starting to cool down. Tomorrow morning is currently forecast to start a lot colder than today, and the afternoon temperature may only reach 10° C. Tomorrow may start wet, but a few sunny spells may be possible in the afternoon. As I mentioned in my waffle about the weather yesterday, I abandoned any ideas about going out as soon as the un-forecast heavy shower happened at 11.30am. That meant I had to find other stuff to do. I spent about 15 minutes doing some housework (mainly some washing up, and cleaning the kitchen work surfaces) and then I got bored of doing that. I ended up doing a mixture or resting reading, and playing with an old PC. A reasonably full description of my day, my night, and some stuff that has already happened this morning, can be read in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 223 Shopping embargo day 88 101 09:50 GMT The big black clouds that had been forecast for various times yesterday turned up rather earlier than expected. It was around 11.30am when we had the first heavy rain. Maybe that was the only heavy rain, but there was a fair bit of lighter rain through the afternoon. There were probably more hours of rain, or at least that had some rain, than any version of the forecast by any forecaster. (Although maybe the BBC [Meteogroup] forecast came closest). It was another mild day - mild compared to some of the days a week or so ago. The temperature probably hit around 16° C. Yesterday was another day that not a lot seemed to happen, but I did manage to be a bit productive. One of the first useful things I did was to do some laundry. I'm not sure what I did next was actually constructive, or at this point in time, just conceit. I set about overhauling my previous main PC. That was more successful than any attempt to eat healthily. I seem to be slipping very badly on that subject. The pertinent parts of my day, evening, night, and this morning are all described in my full archive page for today - some of it is depressive reading ! |
