This morning started off very cool. My garden thermometer was only showing 3.5° C. That was the result of the sky being fairly clear. In turn, that has meant that it has been mostly sunny so far this morning. The latest revision to the forecast says sunny intervals should continue until 1pm this afternoon. Maybe a later revision will show them lasting longer than that. The rest of the day will be cloudy - overcast, but not what the forecast call overcast when the cloud has to be grey as well. It should stay dry all day today, and the best temperature we can expect will be a couple of hours of 10° C this afternoon. Tomorrow may see 12° C, and the sunny intervals may start, and finish a few hours later than today.

  After a few days of boredom under grey, and sometimes wet skies, I was very happy for a change of scenery. I must admit I was doubtful that I would enjoy a long walk. I was feeling creaky, and didn't think I would want to walk very far. On the assumption that I might only walk a couple of miles I thought I would try and make it more worthwhile by taking my big Canon EOS 1200D DSLR camera with me. The idea being that I could take some great pictures. In that respect I was wrong. The reason why I was wrong, and how I ended up doing a much longer walk than I expected, are explained in my full archive page for today. As usual it also includes my evening, my night, and what I have already been up to this morning.

  There seems to be a lot of uncertainty about today's weather forecast. Different revisions show more or less amounts of sunny spells this afternoon. Late last night it was predicted that most of this afternoon would feature sunny spells. The very latest revision say that only 2 and 3pm may see sunny spells. It also shows sunny spells for right now, as I type these words. There was a sunny spell nearly an hour ago, but it didn't last for long, and a look at the sky suggests the chance of a sunny spell right now is very, very slim. I have a feeling that there may be very few, or even no sunny spells this afternoon. I hope I am wrong. Today is going to be very cool, and feeling cooler without any sunshine. The best the latest revision can offer is just a flat 10° C from about 11am until about 6pm. Tomorrow forecast revives the optimistic idea of sunny spells for some of the morning, and some sunny spells in the afternoon. For all that the temperature may hit 11° C in the afternoon, but early morning is going to be very chilly !

   If I said that yesterday was a very bland day I would be repeating myself, and it isn't quite true because the blandness faded away by early evening. Prior to that the day was very bland. I did do a few things, including some very tasty cooking, yesterday, but not much that you could call productive. What I did do I have described, along with a couple of pictures in my full archive page for today. It also includes a fair bit about my evening, a brief description of my sleep, how I feel, and what I might do today.

  The latest revision to the forecast has reduced the hours when it will be overcast, and substituted "cloudy" for some hours. That means this afternoon will only feature light gloom now instead of dark gloom. Apart from this afternoon, when it will be less, there is only a 10% chance of rain at any other time today. The chances are that it will stay dry. Today has started a lot milder than yesterday, and the afternoon should see 12° C. It will still be 12° C just after midnight tonight, but tomorrow will gradually get cooler through the day until it ends at about 8° C. The whole day will be cloudy without a peep of the sun, but once again the highest chance of rain will be no more than 10% - unless things change before then, which is quite likely.

   Yesterday was a very bland day. Yet another day when my get up and go got up and went without me ! I did do some laundry (as ever, by hand), and eventually I did some work on my old PC, and it is almost ready for use. The only other thing I did of particular note was to somehow eat carefully enough to reduce my blood glucose level to an excellent low figure. Somehow I have managed to write over half a page about yesterday, and another half a page about last night, and what I have already done this morning, and what I might do today.   Today has started off cold enough for a frost, but will gradually warm up to 10° C if we are lucky. The latest revision to the forecast correctly changes the prediction to show a few weak sunny spells happening as I write this, or I should I say happening until I just wrote that. The sun is now behind a thick wall of cloud, and it seems unlikely it will break through that in a hurry. It seems there is at least a 50% chance of some light rain this afternoon. Overall it would seem to be a nasty day. Tomorrow may be slightly better. It is currently thought to be a couple of degrees less cold, and while no sunshine is predicted, it should be a brighter gloom !

   One of the odd things about yesterday was not unique to yesterday, but yesterday was a good example of how even a warm room can still feel cold when it is cold outside. This morning it was far colder than yesterday, but it was cold enough yesterday to slow me down, and I didn't do that much at all yesterday. I did a few things, and the most significant was a beer tasting session with Jodie in the afternoon.   As I write this we are almost having a sunny spell. The cloud to the east seems fairly broken up, and the sun is valiantly trying to punch through it.....ahh, it has made it, and while it might only last a minute or two, it is rather nice. If the forecast isn't fantasy then the cloud should thicken soon, and it may start to rain in a few hours. The latest revision to the forecast now says it wall rain, sometimes heavy rain, from 11 The forecast has just been revised again ! It has now gone back to something similar to the screenshot above. Maybe the afternoon will be a bit brighter and cheerful than the pessimistic revision earlier. One constant thing through all the revisions is that today is going to be cold. It has started rather cool at just under 10° C, and is now cooling further. The middle of the day may be no higher than 8° C, and by the early hours of tomorrow morning the temperature could fall to just 4° C. Tomorrow is currently predicted to be very grey, with frequent showers, but the temperature gradually rising until it peaks at 10° C just before midnight.

   Having waited until I had come back from my exercise to write anything yesterday, I have already written about my exercise, or walk as I prefer to call it.  What I can add today is a few photos taken on that walk. As well as the photos there are some notes about the photos plus some commentary on the rest of my day, a comment about the crap sleep I had, and some musings on what I might do today in my full archive page for today.

  The forecast and reality diverged a bit this morning. It was sunnier, and that sunshine lasted much longer than forecast. The prediction that the temperature would start off mild at 12° C, and rise to as high as 15° C turned out to be right, and I think it was 15° C for a bit longer than the single hour shown in the forecast. The very latest revision says that the sun has now gone for the rest of the day, and that it should be drizzling now. At the moment it is still dry, but the sky looks threateningly dark, and so rain, possibly heavy rain, is probably not that far away. It currently say there is a 40% chance of rain right now, but that goes up to a very convincing 70 and 80% from 4pm. Tomorrow is forecast to be a lot colder. The highest temperature, which may last for most of the day, is predicted to be just 8° C. The morning may be dull, but there could be a few hours of sunny spells in the afternoon.
   Yesterday morning sunny spells failed to inspire me, and I seemed to do very little yesterday. I did contemplate another walk, and I wondered if I might do some video editing. I did neither. Today I have done much more ! I have described what I could describe about yesterday, and described what I have done today (2 walks ! ) a short and a longer one), plus the usual stuff about how I feel, what I should and shouldn't have eaten etc etc in my full archive page for today.

  The latest revision to today's forecast shows the last of the sunny periods finishing an hour earlier, but the earlier forecast may turn out to be closer to reality (with regard to the end) because as far as I am aware, the sunny spells started a bit later than 8am, and so might finish later too. It seems the idea of thick heavy cloud from 1pm hasn't changed when the forecast was revised, and from midday onwards the earlier and later revisions are identical. It seems there is a 10% chance of rain at any time, but no specific time is expected to see rain. This morning started mild, 12° C, and this afternoon's 14° C is not too bad, but without any sunshine it will still seem to be cold and damp. Tomorrow may start bright again, but from the afternoon onwards it is likely to rain - sometimes light rain, and sometime heavy rain. The temperature will probably be the same as today.
   I can't say I did nothing yesterday morning because I went shopping in Aldi, but after that I did nothing but read, and eat.  Then the sun came out. At first I was going to lay on my bed dozing off while the sun felt deliciously warm as it poured through my bedroom windows. After I while I deciding I really ought to pull myself together, and go for a walk. I did, but only the first 10 minutes of it were in sunshine.   Today should stay dry, but it is going to be mostly grey, and cool. The latest revision to the forecast now adds sunny spells right now, but there seems little chance of that. Maybe the other period of sunny spells, 2pm, may happen, or maybe the sun might briefly break through at some other time today. In this grey light even a very brief period of 12° C, at 3pm, is still going to feel quite cool, and most of the day will be a degree or two cooler. Tomorrow may briefly peak at 15° C, but it is currently forecast to be another grey day without any sign of the sun. It will probably be dry.
   Yesterday morning was very dull, and in more ways than just the weather. I didn't really do anything of any great note except for some reading. Later on I did become a bit more productive...but only a bit. I guess after beer drinking is not normally described as productive.   The screenshot above was of the 6am version of the forecast. The latest revision was updated at 8am, and nothing about it has changed - or not that much. One small change is that 9am is now shown as rain, and indeed, that is now, and it is raining ! There still seems to be this fantasy that amid lots of rain, 1pm will bring bright sunshine for an hour...well, maybe. Although much more rain is forecast, and some of it possibly heavy rain, it may get a bit brighter in an hour or two, and the afternoon might be bright, and wet. It seems we have passed the warmest part of the day already, and it is now slowly cooling down. Tomorrow is currently predicted to be dry, but it will probably be overcast all day - maybe only lightly overcast. The highest temperature, 12° C, may not happen until fairly late in the afternoon.
  Here's photographic evidence that there was some blue sky yesterday. This was, according to my camera, taken at 2.44pm. At this time the sun was off the right hand edge of the picture (almost a complete right angle to to this view). The sun was also behind a big pile of clouds, and so it was still dull and grey outside. Yesterday was another day when my enthusiasm to do anything was hovering around zero. I did finally do some video editing yesterday.   No matter how often the forecast for today is revised, it still comes out to roughly rain followed by more rain. At the moment the latest revision says there should be heavy rain, but it actually looks like it may have stopped raining. However the road is wet, and the puddles look deep. The sky is dark grey and depressing, and while the clouds may get lighter in colour for some time in the afternoon, they will still leak rain on us. Today is going to be wet. Maybe there will be less rain than what is hopefully a pessimistic forecast, but there will still be rain throughout the day. The temperature today - not just the afternoon, but the whole day, is, and will be 14° C. Tomorrow may be a degree or two cooler, and the sky a bit lighter in colour, but rainfall is predicted for the whole day again. Monday may be dry, and it may be cloudy all day. The most up to date prediction, which is no better than a guess, say we might have to wait until next Thursday until we see the sun again.

   Yesterday was not a day of great triumphs, but there was one. In the morning I tested my mini laptop after it had dried out from its soaking overnight, and it worked perfectly. The potentially productive thing I did yesterday was to transfer more video from old camcorder tapes to my computer. The only trouble is that I now have so much video to edit that it seems too much like hard work, and I don't want to do any of it....well not on a grey and wet, miserable sort of day.   Once again the weather is in a state of flux, and it is changing faster than the forecast can keep up with. There have been a few short sunny spells this morning, but now we are going through a grey period. The timing of this grey period is a bit vague, and so is when it might, or possibly not, rain. The latest revision of the forecast says no rain, and that the sun should emerge again at midday. From them one there should be sunny spells like yesterday - maybe with one sunny spell lasting a full hour. Let's hope that the sunny spells last until sunset today. If the forecast is correct it is now almost the warmest part of the day, 14° C, but most the afternoon will be a degree or two cooler. Tomorrow may see 15° C, but it seems that beyond that the forecasters have just thrown in a bunch of random things at random times. Tomorrow may see random showers, random sunny spells, and random overcast periods - and no one knows when they might be yet !

   Yesterday was generally a good day, but one or two points were bad. I seemed to spend the morning flitting about doing a bit of this, and a bit of that, and at the end of it I really didn't have a lot to show for it. The afternoon featured some good boozing, and an annoying accident.   It is just typical. Today is going to be bright and sunny, mostly by sunny intervals, but there should be some very long periods of sunshine, and today, for reasons I'll explain soon, I can't make good use of that sunshine. It will be no warmer than yesterday, but will appear warmer in the direct rays of the sun. It will be a dry day today, but probably not tomorrow. Rain is predicted tomorrow morning, but the afternoon may feature many sunny spells. It may still only reach 13° C again.

   Yesterday was a day when my get up and go, got up and went without me. I don't think I actually felt miserable, but I just couldn't find any motivation to do anything. I had to force myself to start a video editing project, but by dinner time I had made very little progress in it. I feels like I spent most of my time laying on my bed reading. There were some confounding factors beyond the horrible grey sky that drained all my enthusiasm. I explain all I can explain, and there is other commentary in my full archive page for today. It also includes the usual stuff like how well my sleep was, or not, and my thoughts this morning.

  I can actually see a very attenuated, and hazy sun right now, and I guess it is possible it might brighten up enough to cast a shadow for a few minutes, it seems that today is going to be nearly all grey. There is very little chance of rain until almost midnight, and the temperature should reach about 13° C this afternoon. Tomorrow may feature some rain, some of it heavy, in the very early hours of the morning, but it should have dried up an hour or two before sunrise. Tomorrow could be a sunny day - full sunshine for the morning followed by sunny spells until sunset. It will probably reach 13° C, but only for a short time.

  The big thing yesterday was waiting for two lots of booze to be delivered. Much of my day was actually spent transferring Hi8 Camcorder footage to my laptop using the new video capture box and software. It worked well.   Something very strange has happened - the latest version of the forecast hasn't really changed to that in the screenshot shown above.There is an occasional 10% chance of some sort of rain, but most of the time it is less than 5%. There could be a sunny interval at 11am, and then more of them between 1pm and sunset. 15° C is a degree or so cooler than yesterday, but should still mean just shirtsleeves if I was walking, and feeling quite warm if walking during one of the sunny intervals. (What is the difference between an interval, and a spell ?) At the moment tomorrow is thought to be several degrees cooler than today, and it will be a cloudy day, but dry until after dark.

  Yesterday was all about transferring analogue video to my PC (and laptop) (after my shopping trip to Aldi). I am happy to report that the new video capture box successfully transferred digital video, via USB to my Linux PC. There were a few problems, but overall it was looking to be useful. I describe the problems and triumphs, plus what little else I did yesterday, my rather bland sleep, and my thoughts and plans this morning in my full archive page for today.

  The weather is now actually worse than the screenshot of the early forecast (above). At the moment it is raining, and that agrees with the latest revision to the forecast. It is apparently a heavy shower rather than an ordinary shower, or heavy rain. Maybe "shower" implies a brief passing sprinkle of rain, and that also seems to be reality at the moment. This may continue for another hour, but from 11am it will just be plain, ordinary, dull - except for 4pm when another light shower might put in an appearance. By 2pm the temperature may hit 16° C, and while that would considered cold in summer, it is going to feel warm in the middle of autumn (with winter approaching fast). Tomorrow may be dry, but mostly cloudy, although a few sunny spells are expected in the afternoon. The maximum temperature may still be a fairly OK 15° C.

  During yesterday morning I began to feel bad. Some odd little twinges made me wonder of I was fighting off a viral infection. If I was, my body didn't raise it's temperature to help. For most of yesterday my temperature was under 36° C, and that is well under the 37.8° C which seems to now be accepted as the fever temperature for Covid-19. I think that in actuality I was suffering from a lack of hot sunshine, and a lack of sleep. I started to feel better when a parcel I was waiting for was delivered, and soon after, drinking beer with Jodie. Beer seemed to be the complete cure !   The latest revision to the forecast says there will not even by a mere flash of any sunshine. That is presumably why we seem to have had almost non stop sunshine at a time when the forecast predicts it could be heavily overcast ! The sun has just gone in again, but there are still plenty of blue patches, and streaks of sky where the sun could break through at any time. With luck the reality of today will be a lot like yesterday with far more sunshine than is predicted. One thing that is probably right, or very close to it, is the afternoon high being 14° C. Tomorrow is currently forecast to be the same as today. Let's hope it too is a far too pessimistic forecast.
 
  I planned to go for some sort of walk yesterday. My original intention was to start with a quick walk to Ladywell and back, and then maybe go out again a bit later, with more appropriate boots, for a walk in the River Pool Linear Park. In fact I did both parks in one continuous walk. It was a tiny fraction under a 4.4 mile walk.   Despite the sky being almost clear at sunset last night, and fairly clear this morning, I suspect it was cloudy overnight, and that kept the temperature a few degrees higher. That meant there was no fog, and no frost this morning. Upon checking the latest revision to the forecast I see that it is now in agreement with reality - it is sunny right now ! The latest revision shows sunny spells every hour from 10am until sunset except for 1 and 2pm when it will be overcast. The extra sunshine should take the temperature up to 12° C today. It should also be dry today. The current forecast for tomorrow is a lot like I remember the forecast for today as shown the day before - overcast all day, sometimes heavily overcast, but probably dry, and maybe as warm as 15° C.

   I think I spent far too long just waiting for the sun to appear yesterday.  The consequence of that was that I did very little of anything yesterday. The only real thing I did was to wash a couple of t-shirts, and a few other bits and pieces. One other little time waster was to rip (or possibly re - rip) a load of old music magazine cover mounted CDs.  I must admit it doesn't sound much, and that was probably because it wasn't, but I did take a few pictures of sunset.   I first noticed it was very foggy at about 3am. By about 8am it had thinned to just a thin mist. Even now there is a haze in the distance. It was very close to a freezing fog early this morning. The official forecast said 3° C for 7am, and it may have been even lower earlier on. It was too cold for me to check the temperature for myself. Looking at the sky now I see pillows of cloud with fine cracks between clouds that are letting through tantalising hints that there is a bright sun up above them. The most recent revision to the forecast says it should still be foggy now, but that the sun should break through within the next hour. From then on there will be a few hours of sunny spells, and a few hours of sunshine until sunset. That sunshine should raise the temperature to a maximum of 11° C - which may not feel too bad in full sunshine. Tomorrow (and possibly the day after) are going to be slightly warmer, but uniformly grey from dawn to dusk. In three days time the sun may return....or it will probably snow or something !

    I went out twice yesterday, and neither time was for exercise. The first time was to go shopping for beer (and other stuff) in Aldi, and I wrote about that yesterday morning. The second time was to go to the pharmacy. A bit later in the afternoon it was time for the "Thursday Club" - my support bubble/counselling/beer drinking session with Jodie And Michael. It could have been the last visit from Michael for a month because he is under family pressure to treat the latest lockdown rather harshly.   It is definitely foggy this morning ! I must confess that my picture makes it just look a bit misty, but some views looks a lot foggier at times. It was also very cold this morning - almost cold enough for a frost, but maybe closer to 3° C than the 2° C in the forecast. Today seems like it will be a cold day with the temperature not rising above 9° C  - and that despite some sunshine or sunny spells this afternoon.....or maybe not. The latest revision to the forecast says there will now be just one sunny spell at 2pm ! The latest revision also says the fog will turn to mist, and then dissipate some time after 11am. Tomorrow may not start quite as cold, and it should be clear. Some sunny spells are forecast for the afternoon, and it should stay dry all day.

   After a few days of being mostly inactive, and fairly lazy, yesterday was a busy day ! I washed bath towel, I went on an almost 5 mile walk in the sunshine, and I cooked roast chicken thighs and sprouts.   Today both the BBC (Meteogroup), and the Met Office agree it is going to be sunny all day, and that the chance of rain is less than 5%. The clear skies that are bestowing a day of sunshine on us, meant that this morning started off very cold. Both forecasts said 3° C, and my downstairs, outside thermometer said 2.5° C. I think some of the cars parked across the road, where they are slightly sheltered, had a touch of frost on them. Non stop sunshine should raise the temperature to a still rather cool 11° C by mid afternoon. Tomorrow could be a degree or two less cool, but the day is predicted to start with fog, and then mist. That should dissipate towards the end of the morning to leave another sunny day. It will still be just 11° C at it's warmest tomorrow.

   I realise, with the benefit of hindsight, that I missed out a chance for a walk in not just the dry, but mostly in sunshine yesterday. It's funny how the start of the day can colour your entire opinion of the day. I ended up staying in doing very little, but "very little" is not the same as nothing. I did achieve a little during the day, and my eating regime, while not that good, did achieve one desired outcome.   It was most definitely raining hard at around 7am this morning. I could hear the rain beating at my bedroom windows. Since that it has started to dry up, and there has been a lot of bright sunshine from a sky that looks very dark in some directions. The sky looks semi clear to the north, and almost dark grey to the south west. The south east is sort of a bit variable. It seems that a division of the weather is passing right over my house, and the weather outside my front door could be completely different to the weather outside my back door. This complicates things !

  The BBC (Meteogroup) forecast predicts rain until morning, and overcast from then until nearly sunset. I can imagine that is true to the south of here. The latest Met Office forecast predicts it to be more lightly overcast until about 3pm, but with a 30% chance of a shower at 1pm. It also says that the last two hours of daylight will feature sunny spells. The BBC version says that the last hour before sunset will be sunny. Both forecasts say the day started at around 8° C, and will peak in the afternoon at just a rather cool 10° C. Tomorrow is likely to start almost cold enough for a frost, but clear skies will make it a very sunny day (for the meagre hours of daylight we no get), and that sunshine could raise the temperature to very slightly more than today, or 11° C.

   I didn't realise it at a conscious level, but maybe going shopping in Aldi, and ordering my next repeat prescription from the pharmacy, seemed to be enough for one day. I found that all my enthusiasm, if indeed I started with any, had drained away by mid morning. I blame it on the instability of the weather. I stayed in, and did a few chores, but mostly I was lazy.   Today I thought it was extra prudent to check for the latest forecast revision before commenting on it. Reality and the forecast still have some differences of opinion about what should be happening. I walked to Aldi at about 8.30am. It was quite grey, but drying up after some rain earlier in the night. I finished my shopping half an hour later, and emerged from the supermarket into bright sunshine, and huge puddles ! There had obviously been a quite torrential downpour while I was inside. As I walked home the sunshine felt very hot, and that was on top of it being a slightly warm morning - a pleasant 17° C. Since then there has been more sunshine, and several showers. The last one seemed quite heavy, and the look of the sky suggests there is plenty more to come. The latest revision to the forecast still says there will be some sunny intervals, and even some sunshine this afternoon.

  As I look out the window I find the idea of sunshine this afternoon very unlikely, but with a keen wind blowing the clouds all over the place, I guess anything could happen. One thing seems certain, and that is that even now, when by tradition it should be warming up, it is actually starting to cool down. Tomorrow morning is currently forecast to start a lot colder than today, and the afternoon temperature may only reach 10° C. Tomorrow may start wet, but a few sunny spells may be possible in the afternoon.

   As I mentioned in my waffle about the weather yesterday,  I abandoned any ideas about going out as soon as the un-forecast heavy shower happened at 11.30am. That meant I had to find other stuff to do. I spent about 15 minutes doing some housework (mainly some washing up, and cleaning the kitchen work surfaces) and then I got bored of doing that. I ended up doing a mixture or resting reading, and playing with an old PC.   We start November with no sunshine, and more rain. It was raining earlier, and the way the road looks very damp at the moment suggests there could still be some fine, misty drizzle. The very best we can hope for today is a very mild, 17° C, early evening, but there is a 50% chance of that "warmth" being accompanied by non stop light rain. Once again I have written what the old forecast said without checking for later revisions. The forecast has been revised, and the only small change is that there now seems to be a possibility of a few sunny spells in the early afternoon. Tomorrow, a bit like today, is forecast to start warm and wet, but as the clouds fade away the temperature will drop, but there could be some nice sunny spells in the afternoon.

   Yesterday was another day that not a lot seemed to happen, but I did manage to be a bit productive. One of the first useful things I did was to do some laundry.  I'm not sure what I did next was actually constructive, or at this point in time, just conceit. I set about overhauling my previous main PC. That was more successful than any attempt to eat healthily. I seem to be slipping very badly on that subject.
