The
original forecast had snow starting to
fall just before midnight last night.
Then it was put back to 3am, and finally
to 11am. At 7 or 8am it was drizzling
because the temperature seemed to be
1.6° C according to my two outside
thermometers. Finally, perhaps 20
minutes before 9am, some light flurries
of snow, or more likely sleet fell.
There are even a few (10 of them at the
last count) snowflakes blowing around as
I write this. My hopes for some snow
photography have all but evaporated.
Maybe if the temperature continues to
fall, and the real snow starts at 11am,
as above, by something like 3pm there
could be a thin covering on the ground,
although that does rather assume the
temperature gets low enough to freeze
the wetness outside.
I have just checked the latest
revision to the forecast. The snow is
now shown to start at 1pm. It will only
be light snow, and it may continue to
7pm. From about midday to midnight the
temperature will fluctuate between 0° C
and -1° C. That should set us up for a
better chance of snow tomorrow. The
latest prediction is for light snow to
fall from 6am to 1pm. With the
temperature down to -2° C there is a
good chance tomorrow snow will settle.
It is a shame that no roaring blizzard
is predicted to really pile it up. There
could be a bit more snow on Tuesday, but
the forecast for 2 days in advance is
usually 183% wrong !
As sort of predicted, yesterday
was far from a hive of activity, but I
did do a few important things. I
finished the laundry I had left to soak
just before writing yesterday. I was
quite surprised just how many pairs of
underpants I had allowed to build up
before doing that laundry yesterday.
There were only two t-shirts in that
wash, but it was almost the largest
amount of stuff I could do in one
session.
Another two significant things I
did I really hated to do. One was to pay
off my credit card. I don't understand
why I hate doing this so much. Paying
money into banks always feels sort of
wrong, and I resent doing it. I am more
than happy to take money out of banks of
course. Maybe it is because it is far
easier to take it out than to put it in.
I'm not sure why it needs many layers of
security to pay money into a bank. I
would be more than happy if random
strangers thought it would be a good
idea to pay money into my account.
The other distasteful thing was
to pay the council for my brown, garden
waste, bin collection. It was because I
didn't put it out for collection from
last March until late December, for the
simple reason I hadn't been ask to pay
for another year, that I feel I had been
conned when I got asked to pay what I
should have paid last March just a few
days ago. I have now paid for a year
that I hardly used, and will have to pay
for another year in just a few weeks
time. Once the garden is dry and I feel
like doing some gardening, there will be
a lot of weeds and stuff to be
collected, but I'll probably not use the
service much again until maybe autumn.
There are only two other things
of note that I did yesterday, and they
are both related. During the day I tried
to limit what I ate, but at lunchtime I
fancied something warm after laying on
my bed quietly reading for an hour or
two. I should have had some soup, and I
do have a small selection of "no added
sugar" soups, and some. like Minestrone,
that seem to be naturally very low in
sugar. Instead I opted to have a couple
of bowls of instant noodles. They would
seem to have a fair bit of hidden sugar
in them.
As I suggested yesterday morning,
I was very happy with my bank balance,
and I thought that justified the expense
of a nice takeaway. I did contemplate
the idea of an Indian takeaway, but
decided to be sensible and order shish
kebabs. This time I ordered large ones,
and this time they were most satisfying.
The only trouble with the order was that
I was given a free bottle of Pepsi. That
was good, but it wasn't Diet Pepsi, and
I asked the driver to take it away
again. He promised that next time he
would bring me two bottles of Diet Coke,
but I doubt he will remember it the next
time I order from there.
There was one other "problem"
with my order. I specifically asked for
no pitta bread. It is an option in the
online web site. Stapled to the
side of the bag when it was delivered
was a till receipt. It plainly said on
there "no pitta bread", and guess what ?
Each kebab came with Pitta bread. I
wasn't going to eat, and so I have to
throw it away. That would horrify all
the ecologists, but on the other hand,
experience has shown that pitta bread
tossed into the brown wheelie bin, is
eaten by all sorts of things with
either/or many legs and wings.
I was sort of keen to get to
sleep early. I have to admit I was like
a kid waiting for Santa, and hoping that
morning would seem to come early. In my
case I was hoping for a blanket of snow
to beautify this miserable world, but
all I saw was drizzle. Last night was
another night where I seemed to sleep in
something like 2 hour blocks of deep
sleep interspersed with short periods of
being awake for 5 to 15 minutes.
I know I had quite a few dreams
through the night, but I only remember
one dream, or strictly speaking, one
series of dreams. Like a movie there
were quick cuts to a new scene now and
then. I don't remember the fine, or even
semi fine details, but the basic story
was set almost 40 years ago, and
concerned one of my workmates from that
era wanting to borrow my jeans. I have
no idea why he wanted to borrow my
jeans, but I seemed happy to let him. We
just had to find a place to undress, and
also where I could wait until he brought
them back.
It seemed he only wanted to
borrow my jeans for a short period of
time. Maybe it was for a visit with the
boss, and he wanted to look smarter, but
the jeans he was wearing were probably
smarter than mine. We first went to a
toilet at the end of a corridor. It had
some changing cubicles in it as well as
toilet facilities, but it seemed far too
busy in there. So we went to a bigger
toilet on the ground floor (of whatever
mystery building we were in). That
seemed OK until it seemed to morph into
a very large canteen area. We still took
out jeans off, and I gave him mine to
wear, but his was too small for me to
put on. After that my dreams got very
hazy, but I think I got my own jeans
back.
This morning I am bitterly
disappointed by the lack of snow, and
mildly disappointed that my blood
glucose is not a lot lower. It is the
same as yesterday morning, 8.3mmol/l.
That is OK-ish, and what I usually hope
for, but I am frequently wrong, is that
I am still in a transition period, and
it is still going down. Today, with the
temperature being so low, the lure of
hot food will be irresistible. I had
better dig out all my low sugar soups,
and line them up ready to use. As to
anything else I might do....If, somehow,
we do get a small covering of snow then
I will go out for a walk with my camera.
I still want to get some pictures of the
linear park in the snow, but Ideally I
would like there to be several inches,
or more, of snow for that. I suspect
that today I will just stay in doing
very little.
