There were many times when it snowed
yesterday, but mostly it was very, very light snow
- sometimes no more than a handful of snow flakes
blowing around in the breeze. It was too cold for
the snow to melt - yesterday's high was -1°
- but the snow still seemed to be thinning out.
Some was just being blown elsewhere. I could see
that most clearly when looking out the back
bedroom window to the lower roof. Some may dried
up in the breeze. The snow was topped up a bit in
the night.
The
forecast in the screenshot above has
changed a fair bit since I took the
screenshot. That sunny spell shown for
8am turned into snow. For the last hour
or so, and maybe for another hour, there
has been more light snow falling. It,
and the snow which fell at around 2am,
is slowly filling in the "bald" patches.
The current prediction is for just light
cloud from 10am to 7pm, and the
temperature rising to above zero, but
one by one, single, solitary degree !
From 8pm the temperature will drop below
zero again, and more light snow is
predicted.
That is the forecast according to
The Met Office. The BBC (Meteogroup)
forecast reckons that there could be
some sunny spells when the cloud gets
lighter, but the temperature forecast
agrees with The Met Office. Another
difference is that the BBC predict no
snow until as late as 11pm, and then
heavy snow may fall. There might, or
might not be more snowfall tomorrow. It
is curious that they assign only a 10%
chance of precipitation for their
predicted snowfalls, but at 9am they
keep to the 10% chance of
"precipitation", but say there will be a
full hour of sunshine ! The Met Office
predict only a few sunny spells
tomorrow. Both forecasters agree it will
be another very cold day, although the
temperature could rise to above zero
before falling during the evening. The
BBC goes to extremes by predicting it
could go down to -4° late tomorrow
night. The Met Office say only -2° C.
The great thing yesterday was
going shopping in Aldi yesterday
morning, but I covered that yesterday.
After that nothing much happened if you
don't count eating too much crap. My
left thigh muscle was still sore after
slipping over on the black ice on my way
to Aldi, but most of the time it was
hardly noticeable. There were a few
times when it was noticeable. One was
going up stairs. I have concluded the
exact muscle that was strained was the
one used to lift the leg up. Lifting my
leg up to the next step is a good
example of when it would complain. It
would later complain an awful lot until
I learned to compensate.
I must admit my nerve went when I
thought about going for a walk in the
park. Another slip like the morning one
could hurt an awful lot more, and it may
have even been difficult to get myself
upright again without all sorts of
assorted pains. Not going out pissed me
off a lot, but it was partly compensated
by the thought that the snow was not
really that impressive. The other
compensation was eating stuff that I
should have kept in the cupboard for
later.
One of the first things I ate was
perfectly OK in one sense. It was a
couple of cans of Heinz "no added sugar"
tomato soup. In another sense it was not
good. I don't know what they substitute
for sugar, which surely isn't needed in
the first place, but that soup seems to
become slightly slimy, and doesn't taste
that nice. I don't think even 2 hours
had passed before I wanted something
nicer.
The ironic thing is that what I
chose was almost tasteless. It was a
couple of "steak slices" that In had
bought from Aldi earlier. The splash of
tomato ketchup I put on them had a far
stronger taste than the steak slices. Of
course the instant diagnosis is for
covid related loss of taste, but in this
instance I think it was just because
they were cheap crap - nasty pastry
filled with a sort of brown slime. I
think this is why I haven't bought these
for years upon years until yesterday.
I am forgetting the first thing I
ate as a sort of breakfast yesterday.
Such unhealthy, food as an
anti-depressant, stuff probably set the
pattern for the day. Half of it was
innocent - rice crackers - but using
them to scoop up first, cream cheese,
and then pate, was a bit naughty. Much
later in the afternoon I would indulge
in 4 (or was it 5 ?) cans of beer. In my
defence I would say that out of that 5
(yes, I am sure it was 5 now) only two
were 440ml cans, the rest were small
330ml cans.
My dinner might not have been so
bad if I could have found a can of "no
added sugar" baked beans that I thought
I had. I couldn't, and had to use "full
fat" beans with Cumberland sausages.
That dinner should, and in practical
terms, did fill me up, but I still felt
sort of edgy, and TV wasn't really
entertaining me enough. I ended up
opening two small packets of a rice
based snack.
I can't recall what they are
called, but they are puffed rice with
flavouring, and the rice is formed into
little disks held together just by the
starch from the rice - and no held
together very well. Many packets are
half just individual grains. I strongly
suspect those puffed grains of rice
swelled up even further when soaked in
beer or any drink. By the time I was
heading to bed I felt quite bloated, and
was starting to suffer from some acid
reflux.
The effects of acid reflux was
mostly soothed by an antacid tablet.
That just left me the problem of my leg.
I am unsure why I hadn't noticed it
earlier. Having sat on my bed I found it
agony to lift my left leg up onto the
bed. Later on I refined a technique of
using my right leg to lift my left leg
onto the bed. Once I was laying on my
bed the leg gave very little problem.
There was an occasional mild twinge when
moving in certain ways, but that was a
fraction of the pain of lifting my leg,
using it's own muscles, onto my bed.
It felt like I slept OK last
night - where OK was nowhere near as
good as sleep used to be 10 or more
years ago. As usual I had a series of
sleeps that lasted a few hours each.
Last night those seemed to be quite deep
sleeps. I was possibly asleep from as
early as 9pm, and probably no later than
10pm, and in theory I got more than my 8
hours sleep, but I do seem to feel tired
this morning. Maybe it is more a sort of
fatigue tired rather than a sleepy
tired, and maybe fatigue is just another
name for mild depression. Once again I
want to go out, but I don't think it
wise.
This morning I expected my blood
glucose to have gone through the roof
after all the crap I ate yesterday,
although with hindsight it didn't
include much that is a know strong
source of sugar (except maybe those
"full fat" baked beans). It was quite a
relief to see my blood glucose had only
gone up to 8.7mmol/l. I was expecting 10
plus - well into the danger zone. Come
what may, I should have better control
over what I eat today. I've already
eaten most of the worst things !
There is always a chance I might
say "to hell with it" and still go out
into the snow, but I feel it would
probably be stupid. On the other hand,
unless I slipped and did another injury,
it would probably not make things worse,
and could make things better. As I sit
here typing these words my right leg,
from buttock to calf, is complaining.
That is a result of a fall last summer.
I doubt I will ever know what actual
damage I did then, and I just have to
live with it in the hope it might get
better. I have a dark feeling this now
injury will be like the last. At least
the old one causes very little problem
when walking. In fact I would go as far
as to say it causes no problem at all
once I get moving. It only becomes a
real nuisance when sitting down. I
suspect my new injury would probably
benefit from being rested for a short
while, and that later on it won't
trouble me when walking. At least I hope
it doesn't.
That last rambling paragraph
basically says I'll probably be staying
in today getting bored. I expect I'll
find some little things to do sometime
today, but as to what remains a mystery
for now.
This was how my garden looked at
just gone 4pm yesterday (the onscreen
clock is showing the correct time, but
the date is not set correctly). As far
as snow goes it is rather a poor show.
I am not sure why I thought I
could take a picture of the road with no
more than streetlights for illumination,
but it seems I have ! I used my Huawei
mobile phone for this picture. It is
taken through the double glazing of the
windows in my bedroom, and it was a
fairly long exposure. Fortunately I
could steady the phone against the
glass, and it has produced a pretty good
picture. It just about shows that there
is a new layer of snow out there after
some more snow fell around 2am.
Some
poor quality video of one of
the light falls of snow this
morning. Most snowfall has
been like this despite the
weather forecasts predicting
heavy snow. This is an awful
long way from a roaring
blizzard, a very, very, very
long way !
