The latest version of the weather
forecast seems identical to the
screenshot above. This morning is
going to be dull and wet, but there is
hope that there could be a few sunny
spells from midday, and then some
light cloud until it rains again at
5pm. Today seems like it will be a
whole degree less cool than yesterday.
11° C, during a sunny spell, may feel
pleasant. On the other hand, the BBC's
weather forecast is giving a 30%
chance of rain at midday, and as high
as 58% for the rest of the afternoon.
I think I will try and believe the Met
Office. The warmest hour of tomorrow
may be 10am when it will be, once
again, 11° C. After that temperature
will slowly fall to 6° C. From late
morning to 1pm there could be rain,
and much of it could be heavy rain.
After that it should brighten up, and
there might be some sunny spells.
It was soon after I finished
writing yesterday that I realised I
had forgotten a very important thing.
I suddenly remembered an even worse
thing I did that would have been a
major contribution to my high blood
glucose. On Monday morning I had been
shopping in Aldi, and for breakfast I
had a sort of treat - too many ready
made sandwiches. Some were made with
white bread, which apparently has
actual sugar in it, and the Valentines
special sandwiches were made with
malted bread. Malt is as good as 100%
sugar. With all the other stuff I ate
during the day it was not surprising
my blood glucose level had gone
through the roof !
My high blood glucose was
depressing, but the grey skies, and
rain, were even more depressing
yesterday. I really didn't fancy doing
anything except mope around, quietly
reading. I knew I had to break the
lethargy, and once again I turned to
laundry. Earlier on I had discovered a
t-shirt hidden under my jeans, and I
had another that I was going to wash.
I decided to wash my "drinking
trousers". I am not sure when they
became drinking trousers, and they are
only indoor drinking trousers. They
are a sort of sports trousers with a
drawstring around the waist. Once they
were just casual indoor trousers, but
it seems their turn for being worn is
always on drinking days.
Which nearly everything about
yesterday's weather was dreadful, the
10° C (and I have a feeling I might
have seen 11° C at some time) was
quite good. It seemed mild enough to
leave the dining room window a bit to
get some fresh air in there. It also
meant I had to use a lot less heating.
For an hour or so I had the heating
fully off in my bedroom where I was
reading while laying on my bed. The
only problem was suddenly realising I
was feeling rather cold. That was the
trigger to do the laundry - always a
way of getting warm, and sometimes hot
and sweaty.
I was doing my best not to eat
much, and to choose stuff with low
amounts of sugar in it when I did eat.
I did have a few nuts at times during
the day, but my lunch was just grilled
bacon and tomato sauce. That seemed to
satisfy my craving for food for a fair
time. It was while I was relaxed, and
feeling a bit bored that I had one of
those revelations that creep into the
mind from apparently nowhere.
I realised that my new PC has
plenty of spare "horsepower" and
resources to run virtual PCs inside
it. It was something I experimented
with quite some time ago, but my PC at
the time was not very powerful, and I
couldn't really do much with some of
the virtual PCs I created. Yesterday
afternoon I tried some of the virtual
machines I had created in the past
)saved as a single file representing a
virtual hard disk). I got some good
results !
The most pleasing result was
when I managed to get OS/2 to boot,
and to boot correctly. I even managed
to view a web page on it using it's
own rather primitive web browser. I
had to view one of my own web pages,
based on very simple html with
no scripts of any other bloat. Any
commercial web page would have just
choked the whole machine. Everything
was fine until I tried to make the
screen size bigger. It all went down
hill from there. I did almost mange to
get it functioning again, but I am
wondering if I should start again from
scratch - not that it really matters.
It is only a novelty thing to pass a
few hours rather than a tool for doing
anything productive.
My dinner was very simple, and
very healthy - possibly apart from the
chicken gravy granules I used to
thicken up the gravy that I cooked 3
chicken thighs, and rather a lot of
savoy cabbage in. Later I added a
sprinkle of hot pepper sauce, but
apart from water, those were the only
ingredients - no potatoes, or other
carbohydrates. I probably should have
had no more than a couple of apples
for dessert, or even no dessert at
all, but I thought I had been careful
enough during the day, and so I
treated myself to a tub of the low
calorie/sugar ice cream that I have
been finding is usually safe enough.
I had had such a sedate day,
and one that included a snooze or two,
that I had difficulty getting to sleep
last night. I must have been awake for
at least an hour after turning the
light out, and it was gone 10pm when I
did that. I seemed to wake up more
times than usual during the night, and
by 5am I had almost run out of sleep.
I could have got up then, but I really
felt like I would like another 2 or 3
hours of sleep. I managed almost one
hour extra.
This morning my blood glucose
has come down to 9.7mmol/l. That is
still way too high, but at least it is
a whole point lower than yesterday
morning. There could be a little lag
involved after having that ice cream
in the evening. Today the one thing I
will be doing is trying to be careful
about what I eat, and hopefully my
blood glucose can drop another point -
maybe more if I do a bit of exercise.
I can't say I feel wonderful
today. This dull wet weather seems to
be making a selection of joints ache
again. At the moment it feels like the
sort of aches that should respond to a
few miles walk. With the afternoon mow
different to what I was going to say
before I checked to see if the
forecast had been revised..... It
seems the last of the rain will have
fallen before midday. No sunny spells
are now forecast, but the temperature
could hit 12° C for just 1 hour at
2pm. No sun is bad, but being mild is
good. I'll have to try and be patient,
and keep my enthusiasm going until
gone midday, but all being well I will
be going for a walk today. The Linear
Park is going to be very muddy, and I
am wondering if I should walk
elsewhere today - maybe I'll walk to
the top of Mountsfield Park, and then
see where I fancy going after getting
there.
