Today
seems to be another day where the
forecast is being made up as it
happens ! At the moment the sun keeps
trying to break through the clouds,
but it hasn't really managed it so
far, and maybe it never will. My
leading sentence seems to be wrong.
The very latest revision to the
forecast has, I realised, only shifted
along in time, with the earlier stuff
disappearing off the left hand side.
At that rate it would seem that this,
what I call overcast, is going to be
reprentative for most of the day, but
at midday it may be heavily overcast.
At 4 pm there could be light rain for
3 hours. The temperature is slowly
rising, and by 9pm it should be 11° C.
Tomorrow may see that rise to 14° C,
but there may be almost no sunshine.
It should be a dry day though.
Thanks (grrrr) to another long
rambling phone call from Lee, it was
just about afternoon by the time I had
finished writing yesterday, and so the
first half of the day was covered by
then. The afternoon was mostly another
boozing session. Once again Jodie
brought a few cans of beer with her,
and one was completely revolting to my
palate, or nice if you believed her.
One of the beers we drank was
Roquefort - another Belgium abbey
beer. We had planned this during the
previous boozing session, and Jodie
had bought some Roquefort cheese to go
with it. I bought a small ring of
artisanal bread to go with the cheese.
The cheese is from France, but I am
sure the beer is from Belgium, and so
not from the same abbey, or even area.
They did go well together though. The
bread was one of several "naughty"
things I ate yesterday. I also ate
some giant, chilli flavour, Hoola
Hoops as well.
After Jodie went home I ate a
very healthy dinner (I think). It was
another sort of stew based around a
core of a few skinless and boneless
chicken thighs. This time I added the
last of the bean sprouts, and some
cauliflower and broccoli. One other
small difference is that instead of
cooking it all in a base made with
some stock cubes, I used a couple of
chicken, with thyme and garlic, stock
pots - little pots filled with the
stock base in a jelly form.
This time I resisted having any
ice cream after it, but I did nibble
on some hot chilli peanuts a little
later. In a way it is surprising I
managed to resist. I was far from
rolling drunk, but my resistance would
have been quite low. I guess the guilt
from the other bad stuff I had eaten
earlier was just too strong. The
2 packs of giant Hoola Hoops, some
weird baked things that were very low
in fat , but surprising high in sugar,
plus the bread, and I am sure there
was something else too to raise my
guilt level, and I am forgetting to
add some of the sweet beers to that
list !
I have left it so late to
start writing that I have forgotten a
lot about my night's sleep. I have no
idea what time I got to sleep, but I
think it was before 9pm. I do remember
waking up near midnight, and being
surprised that I had been asleep, and
more surprised that I had probably
been asleep for 3 hours, and the next
day hadn't even started. I think I
slept badly after that, but I can't
think why I think that. What I do know
is that almost on the dot of 6am I
woke up in that special way where you
know instantly it is time to get up.
One of the first things I did
was to check my blood glucose level. I
was expecting something dreadful, but
it was just 8.9mmol/l. That is far too
high, but I feared it would have been
much worse. I really ought to try and
get it down to at least under 8 today,
but without a decent walk, and
distraction from food, it would mean
fasting until dinner time, and I am
not sure I can do that.
The rest of me feel reasonably
OK, but I think I have to blame a mild
hangover for a strong feeling of
lethargy, and maybe even a mild
headache, although the headache could
be eye strain. I seem to have spent a
lot of time catching up with a couple
of days of IT news this morning. That
lethargy could almost map the path of
today, but it won't because I made a
rash promise. I answered a plea from
Sue to give her some advice about her
phone and computer problems. I very
much doubt I will be able to help her.
I have never used an iPhone before,
and I have only a passing familiarity
with older Mac computers - and zero
experience about how the deal with
photos, or interact with iPhones. It
will be a case of the blind leading
the blind. The worst thing is that she
ignored my advice when she was having
trouble several years ago. If she had
made the backups on her own media, and
made notes of things like passwords,
she wouldn't be in the mess she is in
now. Her biggest trouble is that she
will be doing all this stuff on a zero
budget. She would rather spend £50 on
a new pair of boots than buy a back up
hard disk. I can foresee one of us
just hanging up on the other this
afternoon !
