The latest
revision to the forecast shows less
sunshine than in the earlier forecast
seen in the screenshot above, and I
suspect later forecasts may show less
still. On the other hand the tendency
yesterday was for more sunshine than
predicted. Hopefully today will be the
same. The temperature may still peak
at 14° C, but the latest forecast says
for only one hour at 4pm. Tomorrow may
see the temperature peak at a more May
appropriate 16° C, but the morning is
going to be very wet. From late
afternoon it could be bright and sunny
- which will make 16° C feel very good
- if it happens.
I was expecting, and
getting all excited about, a beer
delivery yesterday, but something went
wrong. The DHL tracking website said
the consignment had been collected
from Beer Merchants, and would be
delivered yesterday, and then it said
there was a delay. The next update
said my box(es) of beer hadn't even
been collected from Beer Merchants. It
was obvious I wasn't going to get my
beer yesterday. This morning it is
supposed to be out for delivery with
an expected delivery date of
yesterday. I am rather hoping I might
get a message to give me a warning
about when to expect it, but I am not
sure of DHL do that. It might just be
a case of waiting.
It was lucky I was keeping an
eye on that beer delivery, and I found
out early enough that I wasn't going
to have any beer for a boozing session
in the afternoon. I went to the little
multi-ethnic supermarket on Catford
Bridge to buy some beers. I bought a
few Polish beers because they are all
rather nice, and so a safe choice. I
also bought a few English ales. Jodie
was not keen on them, but that just
meant there was all the more for me.
She was happy to have some Polish
beers though.
We were joined by Mark who I
think had been working not that far
away (although I am sure he said
Canterbury at one point). The main
plan was for him to take Jodie away
for food and more beer. He was at my
place for a couple of hours, and it
was great to have some adult banter
with somebody while we were drinking.
I even had some 0% beer for him. I
didn't taste it, but both Mark, and
Jodie, who had a small taste of it,
declared it to be rather good. I must
buy a couple more bottle if they have
any more in Aldi - a decent 0% beer is
handy for any visitors who are
driving.
Mark also played a few tunes on
my guitar. He declared it a nice
guitar, but said the strings were
"rusty". I seem to recall it being
suggested I might like to get some new
strings for it when it was given to me
as a birthday present by Jo (from
Chain). There are two reasons why I
have never bought new strings for it.
One is that I realised I just can't
play guitar - I am basically
tone deaf - and stopped trying to
teach myself to play years ago. The
other reason is that I have no idea
what strings to buy. That is about to
be changed. Mark has offered to buy
new strings for me, and to restring
the guitar. I feel confident I could
restring it myself with little
problem. I may do it under Mark's
supervision. I guess his means I ought
to have another go at playing the
guitar when it has fresh strings.
Mark took Jodie away around
6pm, and so for once I had my dinner
almost on time. Although it was a
shorter drinking session, most of the
beers I drank were quite strong. I was
drunk enough to be ravenous, and tried
to eat my dinner too fast. It was
little more than beef and bean
sprouts, but I did add some of the
incredibly hot chilli sauce I bought a
month or two ago. I thing I added
rather too much, and I ended up
coughing as it bit my throat (from the
inside !). The end result was that I
didn't enjoy that dinner like I should
have, and after a while I opened a
packet of crisps I was saving for some
suitable occasion. I ended up eating
the whole of the pack - because I was
still drunk !
I was in bed, and reading while
it was still daylight outside, and
because the clouds had lifted it was
bright(ish) daylight. I think there
was still some light visible between
the curtains when I turned the light
out, and fell asleep. Last night was
one of those annoying nights when my
sleep came in two halves with a long
break between them. I think I could
have been awake for almost an hour -
from just before 3am to just before
4am. I seemed to sleep well before and
after that break.
Eating those crisps, plus at
least one sweet tasting beer, had a
very obvious effect on my blood
glucose. It was up to 10.0mmol/l this
morning. I had better not eat much
until dinner time today - which is
easier said than done. At least I
won't be waiting in all day for my
beer delivery. I had a notification
halfway through writing the last
paragraph to say it will be delivered
roughly between 10am and 11am.
My main plans for today are to
finish some laundry I started straight
after I had a shower before writing
this. I think I may be able to get it
on the line before we lose the
sunshine. After my beer delivery I
will probably go out to see if I can
buy a window washing "thing" from
Poundstretcher. This "thing" should be
a sponge and wiper blade on the end of
a long handle (about 2 ft long). I
have seen them for sale somewhere. I
thought it was Poundland, but they
didn't have any. Maybe I'll have more
luck in Poundstretcher. After I've
been there, where I can also get more
seed for my bird table, I can probably
put my feet up and relax in the
afternoon....maybe....
