Not all of
today will features sunshine, but when
it is not sunny there will be sunny
spells. At the moment we are going
through a period of sunny spells
because there is still a fair amount
of cloud around. The latest revision
to the forecast has changed some hours
of sunny spells to sunshine, and so it
should be a very nice day once it
warms up. It is rather cool this
morning, but the afternoon should see
23° C. Tomorrow should see some sunny
spells, but a lot of the day will see
white cloud, and probably quite a few
showers. The temperature should make
22° C though.
Yesterday I was suffering from
a mild form of the bends. The low
atmospheric pressure may have been
causing nitrogen bubbles to form
inside my joints, and causing some
discomfort. Of course that is probably
rubbish, but it is the most elegant
explanation I can think of to explain
why I felt really creaky yesterday.
For people of a certain age it is well
know thing that damp days causes joint
pain, but no one has ever explained
why until I came up with my ludicrous
theory above.
It was because it was so dull
and wet yesterday that yesterday
became a day of rest, or just
laziness, depending on which way you
look at it. I didn't have a 100% lazy
day because I did do some laundry (by
hand), but for the rest of the day I
lolled about reading and eating more
than I should. I had several snacks
with either cheese or spam with rice
crackers. That should have been safe
in terms of sugar content, but the
calorie and fat content was probably
unhealthy.
When it came to dinner time I
opted for what I thought should have
been safe - soup. Where it all went
wrong was the beer I was drinking. I
had one can, and two bottles of beer
last night. The canned beer, whose
name I forget, and was a beer left
here by Jodie, must have had a lot of
sugar in it. I know this because the
froth, as I poured it, overflowed the
glass onto the kitchen floor. That
patch is sticky like glue this
morning. I can only imagine it is pure
syrup, and if I don't clean it I will
suffer an invasion of ants.
I seemed to think I was having
an early night last night until I
looked at the clock when I turned the
light out. I was probably more
engrossed in the book I was reading
than I thought I was. It was 10pm when
I turned out the light, and I think I
fell asleep quickly. I think I
probably slept OK, although by the
early hours of this morning it was
starting to feel a bit too cool to
sleep without pulling the duvet partly
over me.
I remember dreaming a lot, but
I only remember an overview of a
couple of dreams. One was a sort of
variation on one I described
yesterday, except instead of three
computers being dumped in a skip by
work, it was three bicyles. I grabbed
one, and I think I thought I was going
to ride it home. I stashed it under
the stairs, but when I checked it
before home time various bits had gone
missing.
Another dream was about going
on a medium long train ride with a
friend. It was a dream that seemed to
have many different scenes, and most
were difficult to describe. In one
segment I seemed to be in something
like a hotel room at the station where
I changed my clothes. I might have had
a wash too, but I don't remember that.
The clue that I may have had a wash
was when I was packing a bottle of
shampoo, and one of conditioner. It is
possible that that bit of dream
happened after an event to explain how
that event could have happened.
That "event" was the scary bit
of the dream. I was on the train with
my friend, and I was looking for my
ticket because a ticket inspector was
approaching. I seemed to have quite a
selection of tickets in my pocket, but
none matched the journey I was on. I
then remembered I had put the ticket
in my wallet. When I checked my pocket
it was empty. I was on the train with
no ticket, and no money. I concluded I
must have left the wallet in my other
trousers.
It was at that point I may have
invented the dream of what had
happened before to explain how I had
changed my trousers. My vague memory
says the part where I was in the hotel
room happened before I was on the
train, but I have this nagging idea I
actually dreamed it after. I have no
idea why I think this apart from
marvelling at how inventive the
sleeping mind is. There is a theory,
based upon observations in sleep
laboratories, that all dreams are mere
seconds long, and that anything we
think we remember in the morning is an
artificial storyline made up of little
segments that seem to fit together to
make a longer narrative.
This morning I still feel a bit
creaky, but maybe not as bad as
yesterday, and maybe getting better
all the time. The rest of me is sort
of so so. I do seem to have a mild
headache, and I feel rather hungry.
The latter is something I am really
going to have to fight because my
blood glucose has gone very high again
this morning, 10.1mmol/l. I need to
fast for most of today to get that
down. Fortunately I can go for a walk
in the sunshine today. I hope that
warm sunshine and some painkillers
will make walking pleasant enough to
try and go for a full 4 miles today. I
have a route in mind that means going
over the top of Hilly Fields, and
exiting from a different point. The
walk would ten loop around, and if I
feel masochistic enough I will also go
over the top of Blythe Hill Fields. Of
course I may go somewhere completely
different !
