In the
latest revision to the forecast there
are less hours of sunshine, more hours
of just sunny spells, and even an hour
of dark cloud possible. It is going to
be nice hot today, 28° C, but I
suspect it might be rather humid. The
weather for the coming week seems very
variable. It will start getting cooler
after Wednesday, and the cooling may
be helped by maybe 3 days featuring
thunderstorms. Tomorrow may only
feature sunny spells instead of
sunshine, and be cooler at just 24° C.
I finally pulled my
finger out yesterday morning, and
repaired the leaking joint where the
bath waste pipe joins the main soil
stack. The rubber grommet I found was
probably the wrong size, but it helped
- I hope. The block of wood that the
pipe clip was screwed to, midway along
the 4ft of pipe, was really rotten,
but I managed to screw in two screws
to attach my home made pipe clip. They
are a bit precarious, but should hold.
In theory, now the pipe is supported
it won't bend when carrying water, and
that will help stop the end pulling
away from the soil stack again. I
haven't checked this morning, but
everything was dry last night.
The only other thing of note
for yesterday was some boozing in the
afternoon with Jodie and, a bit later,
Mark. Mark had come to pick up Jodie
as a taxi service to visit her dad,
amongst other destinations. They left
quite early, and cut the boozing time
down to almost half (maybe three
quarters). That was fine by me because
I was feeling a bit tired for some
reason.
Earlier in the afternoon,
before the boozing started, I had a
light lunch of rice crackers and
cheese. For dinner I had a corned beef
salad. For some reason that failed to
satisfy, and I had more rice crackers
and cheese. For some strange reason
that second course seemed to leave me
a little bit bloated. Maybe bloated is
not quite the right description
because it ended up feeling a bit more
like acid indigestion. I had to take a
couple of antacid pills before going
to bed to settle it all down.
Some of it may have been the
heat, and some of it may have been the
booze and/or food, but I felt very
weary last night. I couldn't find the
concentration to watch anything on TV,
but then again I don't think there was
anything on that would grab my
attention even if I wasn't feeling so
tired. Once again I was on my bed
(it's been too warm to be in it for
ages now) quite early - certainly well
before sunset.
It seemed like I slept well,
but I do recall dreaming a lot, and it
was usually the same dream. The dream
was inspired by the book I am
currently reading, but that only gave
inspiration, and not a conclusion. It
is all really vague now, but I think
that my almost duplicate dreams were
my brain suffering from writers block,
and not being able to continue the
story. It would keep coming back to
the background to a/the story, but
couldn't continue.
I first woke up properly at
5am, but that seemed too early. I
guess I must have needed another hours
sleep, despite apparently getting
plenty of hours sleep before then
because it wasn't long before I seemed
to fall into a deep sleep again for
another hour. It was actually a little
after 6am, maybe 6.20am when I finally
decided to start the business of the
day. As usual, one of the first things
I did was to check my blood glucose.
I knew it would have gone up,
but it was a pleasant surprise to see
how little it had gone up. It was
7.7mmol/l - very slightly higher than
my personal target of 7.5mmol/l. One
of the reasons I expected it to be
higher was because I drank mos of a
bottle of Jamaican Dragon Stout. It
listed sugar
and glucose in
it's ingredient, and it did taste
quite sweet. I also have some
suspicion about the rice crackers I
ate yesterday. Last month I seemed to
be getting high glucose readings when
I was eating them quite frequently,
but now they seem mostly innocent.
Today could be a sort of busy
day. I have already showered and been
shopping in Aldi. Now the leak has
(hopefully) been sealed on that bath
waste pipe, I have some laundry to
catch up on. It is possible I might do
two lots today. I have lots of
computer based things to do today. For
a start there are all the pictures of
the gig I took on Saturday to go
through, but I have a load of CDs to
rip to mp3 files, and also I want to
make some better backups of a load of
archive radio programmes that are
currently only on a set of DVD data
disks. It doesn't seem like I'll be
getting any walking exercise today !
