Lockdown day 420 450

09:17 BST

The weather was not quite as bad as forecast for yesterday, but it was still a rather dull, and rather wet day. The forecast kept changing so really I shouldn't have compared reality with it. It was sometimes bright, but only once did it seem the sun might break through the clouds. There were some showers around midday, and then it was dry for several hours. There was a brief shower just before 6pm, and then at some later hour the rain started again, and may not have stopped all night. At least it was still warm with the temperature around 22° C for a lot of the afternoon, and into early evening.
rain, rain, and more rain
As yet we have had no thunderstorms, but the BBC weather forecast says we could get some today. Right now it feels a lot like I've overslept into autumn ! It is a cool morning, and it will be cool this afternoon. The best we can hope for today is 16° C. Of course the main feature is the prediction of non stop heavy rain. There has already been one heavy downfall, but as I write this the rain has stopped, or is very light. I expect this will be the pattern for the day - rain on and off. Tomorrow could be a little warmer, 19° C, and it might be mostly dry. Thick clouds are expected, but the current prediction for tomorrow only shows rain, or a 60% chance of it, at 5pm. For the rest of the day the chance of rain is mostly 10%.

The dull weather was not very inspiring yesterday, and so I didn't do anything of great note, but I did do a few minor things. I wrote about going to the pharmacy, to pick up my repeat prescription yesterday morning. After that I went into lazy mode for several hours...well sort of - some of those hours were actually writing yesterday's diary/blog. I also spent 10 to 20 minutes putting a few selected beers in the fridge to cool, and washing and drying glasses for the afternoon boozing session.

I next stirred to action for a few minutes when Michael sent me a text message asking if I wanted anything from Tesco. I said yes please. I also varied my usual order of Diet Coke by asking for half of them to be lime flavoured Diet Coke. I've grown to like that lime flavour on a hot day. A couple of hours later and Michael arrived with my diet cokes, except the that three of them were Coke Zero. That stuff is OK, but I don't have the taste for it. Apparently Tesco only stock the red labelled Coke Zero now. If that is true it is a great annoyance, and an even greater annoyance if the Coca Cola company have discontinued Diet Coke.

Jodie arrived for our boozing session a little later. I thought we had an understanding that we were going to have a cider session, and indeed she brought a couple of Nordic fruit flavoured ciders with her, but once she saw my Mad Squirrel, and Wild Card, beers she got all excited, and changed her mind. I had to unload the fridge of ciders, plus a few beers, and put in a selection of cans from my new delivery to try and chill down before we drunk them.

I don't think we drank all that much in total - possibly somewhere between 2 and 3 pints. It gets hard to estimate when you split a 330ml can two ways. Some cans were 440ml. When I try and picture how many cans we got through I don't think it could have been much more than 6 cans, and all of them were less than a pint, and some were only half a pint. A few of the beers were quite strong.

By the time Jodie left, choosing her time wisely between rain showers, I had drunk enough to still be mostly sober, but to feel very hungry. I did my best to control it, but mostly failed. My dinner should have been one large Cumberland sausage with a small tin of Heinz (always loads of sugar) reduced sugar baked beans (where "reduced" means reduced from outrageous to merely far too much). I still felt peckish after that and so I had a cheese salad for "dessert". It was partly a tactical move to use up a Romainne lettuce I had noticed was starting to deteriorate, but I added cheese and tomatoes to it.

I was in bed a bit early last night because I was getting near the end of the latest book I've been reading. I decided I would finish it last night even if my eyes were starting to close as I read the last few pages. That must have been almost 11pm, and it seemed like I would fall asleep as soon as I put the book down. I didn't, and it was because as soon as I turned over I felt uncomfortable. My neck, and back seemed to ache. I may have been laying in an awkward position while reading, and been too distracted by the book to notice.

I eventually got to sleep, but it didn't feel like good sleep. At times I almost felt cold. It is lucky I didn't have the window open or I would have felt a lot cold. My indoor thermometer did say that my bedroom temperature was 5 or 6° C lower than it had been peaking at the previous few nights. It didn't help that I didn't even have a sheet to pull over me (something I must rectify for tonight).

This morning the results of some of that booze, and also a few things I ate (including coated "beer nuts" that came with the last delivery of beers) showed up starkly in my blood glucose. It had gone right up to 8.9mmol/l. I was expecting it, but I still didn't like it. I also wonder how much it might have been affected my a stomach disturbance I had this morning. It required to good visit to the toilet, and I am not sure there isn't another looming. I blame eating too much lettuce !

I have this insane idea that I might go for a walk in the rain today. I have even put my waterproof camera on charge in case I give in to this lunacy. I'd like to do some laundry today, but I think that can wait until a dry day. It is possible that despite being very cloudy, there is a chance that tomorrow may be dry. What I really ought to do with some urgency is to finish selecting, and editing, more of the photos I took last Saturday !
