Earlier
versions of the forecast said there
was a chance of thunderstorms after
midnight last night, but there were
none that I was aware of, and I don't
think the rain was that heavy during
the night. The forecasters keep
guessing when it might rain today, and
the predicted times keep changing. We
have just had a shower, and from the
look of the sky there could be another
at almost any time. The afternoon
temperature may only be 22° C today,
and that is probably not hot enough to
brew up any thunderstorms today.
Tomorrow is almost going to feel cold
with a maximum temperature of just 16°
C, and with heavy rain forecast for
most of the day, it is going to be
very unpleasant,
I was just about to write
that yesterday was another day when I
was busy doing lots of little odd
jobs, but on reflection it was just an
almost lazy day. That is not to
say I did nothing all day, the
"almost" signifies that. For instance
I did do one big job, and it was to
hand wash a double duvet cover. My
only regret is that I didn't do it a
lot earlier. If I had done so I could
have waited an hour or so before it
was almost dry, and then started
washing a double sheet and
pillowcases. By the time I had done
that the duvet cover would be dry, and
I could have hung out the sheet and
pillowcases to dry before we lost most
of the sunshine.
One of the main events
yesterday was the delivery of my long
awaited beer order.
In some respects it was like my
order from the Fullers Brewery. There
was a long wait with no news, and then
suddenly it all happened at once.
There were two main differences. One
was that the wait from when the order
was accepted, until the beer was
shipped was a lot longer, and the
other is that The Bier Company used a
bit of trickery. They booked the
delivery with Yodel, who provided a
shipping number, long before they were
ready for it to be shipped.
Yesterday morning I finally got
an email from Yodel to say my boxes of
beer were out for delivery. They
provided a link to their tracking
internet page, and I was able to watch
the driver getting closer and closer.
I originally estimated it might arrive
soon after 2pm, but it was closer to
1pm when the beer arrived on my
doorstep. The Mad Squirrel beer was
nicely packed in one box, but the Wild
Card Brewey beer was very sloppily
packed. Fortunately both glasses
survived the journey.
As dinnertime approached I
began to feel like I didn't want
another salad. I blame it on the
school kitchen over the road. They had
been cooking beef by the smell of it,
and I really fancied something meaty
for dinner. I came very close to
ordering a takeaway - possibly a curry
- but sanity prevailed. I settled for
a spam salad. It was while getting the
salad stuff out of the fridge that I
noticed I did have something nice and
meaty that I could have cooked. It was
a long, curled up in it's own foil
container, ready to oven cook,
Cumberland sausage. I had bought it on
Monday morning, and completely
forgotten about it. I won't be
forgetting it today !
It was quite a hot and sweaty
night, and because of the rain I
closed my bedroom window. It did make
getting to sleep a bit difficult, but
I was probably asleep before 11pm, and
maybe not too long after 10pm. On
reflection I probably slept fairly
well. I woke up a couple of times for
a pee, and it was hard getting back to
sleep, but once asleep I seemed to
sleep for hours and hours before
waking the next time.
I woke up at 5am, and after a
wee I opened my bedroom window. I
expected the room to flood with cooler
air, but the air didn't seem to be
moving much. It wasn't long before I
fell asleep again, and when I woke up
again it was gone 7am. I did have a
reason to be out soon after 8am, and
so I got up fairly quickly. This
morning I was happy to see my blood
glucose was spot on target at
7.5mmol/l. I guess the warm warm
and/or dry weather has modified my
eating more than I realise, because
keeping my blood glucose to a sensible
level seems to take little effort now.
The other good news came a
little after when I had had my morning
poo. I have definitely lost a small
amount of weight this week. I can't
decide if it is good, or not nearly
enough. My cumulative loss since the
beginning of the month may be very
slightly more than 2kg, or maybe 5lbs,
but at the start of the month I was
only half heartedly checking my
weight. In one respect this weight
loss is bad in so much as it is not
enough. If it is only 2kg a month it
will take for ever (or feel like it)
until I get back to where I was at the
end of last November.
It is a shame that today will
not be a day for exercise. There are
two valid reasons for it. First is
obviously that the weather is crap.
The second is that this afternoon is
"boozing Thursday". Fortunately I have
actually done a tiny bit of exercise
this morning. My reason for wanting to
get out early was to walk to the
pharmacy to pick up my repeat
prescription. It wasn't ready as
promised, and I had to stand in the
shop for well over half an hour while
the assistant pulled the shop apart
trying to find it, and then making it
all up from scratch. The good thing
was that it was all there - including
the glucose test strips that I would
otherwise have had to buy via Amazon.
