There was a
small period this morning when it was
dry, but from 9am it started raining.
It is raining now, but the latest
revision to the forecast now says the
heavy rain won't start until about 4pm
this afternoon. It seemed to be a very
cool night, cooler than the 13° C that
the latest revision to the forecast
say will be the temperature from now
and past midnight tonight. The
forecast for tomorrow shows light
cloud all day, and the temperature
rising to17° C by mid afternoon. There
could even be a few sunny spells in
the last 2 hours before the sun sets.
The grey sky yesterday
morning meant I did very little. I
didn't do a lot even when the sky
started to get a bit lighter. An hour
or two after that Jodie arrived and we
started the Sunday afternoon boozing
session. It was actually a light
session. We were drinking cider
instead of beer, and most of it was
just 4%. It turned out that Jodie
didn't think that much of some of the
ciders, and I am not a great lover of
cider. In the end we didn't even drink
that much at all - possibly less than
two pints in total.
These were 4 of the ciders we
were going to drink, but we didn't
drink the two on the right at this
time. We did drink the two älska
ciders, and another two that were in
bottles. älaska is Swedish for love,
in case you are interested. There was
one of can, not pictured here that we
drank, and it was not cider but a
fruit drink based on gin. One reason
for drinking less than usual was the
sky getting very dark. Jodie decided
it might be better to get an early
train in case it started to rain. Five
minutes after she left to walk to the
station the sun came out for a few
minutes !
I almost forgot that before
Jodie arrived I did have a quick clear
up, and one of the things I did was to
take the stuff for the recycling bin
out before we filled the next bag up
with more empty bottles and cans.
While outside I noticed a hover fly
having a drink of nectar from a
flower. It was so still that I
wondered if it was a plastic one that
my neighbour had glued to the flower,
but when I saw it side on I could see
it's mouth parts guzzling away at the
nectar.
I was particularly looking
forward to my dinner last night. It
was to be the last of my Indian
takeaway from the previous night. I
had actually had some Indian for
breakfast. Dinner was a tandoori mixed
grill, and it was very nice. I had it
with half a serving of pilau rice. I
wondered what to do with the other
half of the rice, and made the stupid
decision to have it with a can of
Tesco chicken jalfrezi. It was stupid
because it tasted nasty compared to
the real thing.
I was feeling rather
uncomfortable after eating dinner. It
was mostly because I had been
constipated all day, and adding that
food didn't help. It did help laying
down, and that was the perfect excuse
to lay in bed reading for an hour or
so. I can't remember exactly when it
was, but I'm sure it was before 9pm
when I decided to call it a day. Just
before I turned the light out I took a
couple of laxative pills. It obviously
had nothing to do with the pills, but
3 minutes later I was no longer
constipated. Experience suggested it
might mean a follow on visit to the
toilet, and so I picked up my book
again, and read for at least another
half an hour before I was sure I could
get to sleep with no interruptions.
Before going to sleep I turned
the heater on low, and for half the
night I felt comfortable, but by the
small hours I was feeling a bit cool,
and made sure I was completely under
the duvet cover. With that I was just
warm enough to sleep, but not for as
long as I seemed to want. I was up
soon after 6am this morning to give
myself plenty of time to get ready to
go to Aldi at 8am for my weekly shop
there.
By that time the laxative I had
taken the previous night was doing
it's stuff well. I made several visits
to the toilet before going to Aldi,
and it didn't feel that I was empty
even then. My walk to and from Aldi,
plus walking round in Aldi felt OK, or
even a bit good, but once I got home
with my shopping I felt very tired,
very quickly. It wasn't long before I
visiting the toilet again. I've made
one more visit since, but I do seem to
be empty now.
One thing that may have
contributed to the tiredness, but I
feel certain was not the root cause,
was my blood glucose. The sweet cider,
and all the rice I ate, send my blood
glucose right up to 9.4mmol/l. It was
therefore stupid that I bought a pack
of sandwiches, and a post of pasta
salad that I ate as breakfast this
morning. Both will make my blood
glucose higher, except that sometimes
they don't. It is medically
impossible, but sometimes it seems
that my pancreas can be shocked into
better performance by an occasional
overload.
One thing that won't help my
blood glucose is exercise because the
chances of me doing any today seems to
be close to zero (and maybe even
less). This is on account of the vile
weather. I don't feel inclined to do
anything at all today - except quietly
reading and snoozing. On the other
hand, I might end up doing something
indoors that hasn't occurred to me yet
- watch this space !
