Today may be
better than yesterday, but it remains
almost like mid February. There seems
no chance of seeing the sun today, but
at least a lot of the day may only
feature white clouds. That is not the
case at the moment - even if the
forecast shows the same white clouds
as expected for much of the rest of
the day. At the moment we seem to be
heading towards a shower. The latest
revision to the forecast says there
will be light rain at 8am as well as
the heavy rain at 9am. It wouldn't
really come as a surprise if later
revisions added more rain. Curiously
enough my thermometer, which also
measure barometric pressure, reckons
it will be sunny today ! The only good
thing about today is that the
temperature should rise to at least
17° C. It needs to rise fast because
there is an icy feeling wind blowing
into my bathroom ! Tomorrow should be
a bit more like June with lots of
sunshine, and the temperature above
20° C
Yesterday was a day of
excess ! That doesn't mean I did
anything after I went shopping in Aldi
early in the morning. The grey skies
and rain made me feel hungry. Not only
did I have the big pack of sandwiches,
and the pasta salad I had bought from
Aldi for breakfast, but I had too many
snacks as well. By dinnertime all I
dared eat was a salad that was all
vegetable except for a sprinkling of
shaved Parmesan type cheese on it.
As well as an excess of food, I
tried for an excess of drink. I have
to admit I failed in that, and it was
all the fault of the last of three
bottles of Fullers beer that I drank.
The first two bottles were of Bengal
Lancer. That is an IPA style beer with
(I think) some spices added. I am not
keen on it, but having bought 8
bottles of it I have to drink it. The
last bottle was of Golden Pride. That
is an 8.3% beer - very strong, and
very malty tasting. It has quite a
sweet taste, and that, as enjoyable as
it was, signalled it was time to stop.
Eating and drinking were the
highlights of yesterday. I spent
almost all of the rest of the time
either reading or snoozing. The
weather was making me feel quite
depressed, and I couldn't raise the
enthusiasm to even think about raising
the enthusiasm to do anything useful.
It was a day that couldn't pass fast
enough. At least not until the evening
when I finally raised a little
enthusiasm to do something. That
something was to finish the book I was
reading.
I think it may have been as
late as 11pm when I read the last
words in the book, turned the light
out, and fell asleep. My memory is
quite hazy, but I have doubts that I
fell asleep that quickly. Just lately,
possibly just during this cold wet
weather, my right shoulder can get
quite painful at times, and those
times are mostly when I turn over on
my right side, and there is pressure
on that shoulder. I know it was
painful in the night, and despite
sleeping on my right being my
preferred side, I mostly slept on my
left side last night.
I can only remember a bit of
one dream from last night. It was
quite inventive as well as being a bit
strange. It was one of those dreams
where you are sure there must have
been something before and after the
bit you remember. The bit I do
remember was firing off a rocket that
I seemed to have invented. It was very
small, about the size of an old "magic
marker", and it was nuclear powered.
One curious thing was that the rocket
engine gave off a thick cloud of
smoke, mostly at take off, and the
smoke was deliberate because it was
impervious to radiation, and protected
me and anyone else in the vicinity.
The rocket flew to 8465 metres above
the ground, and then the dream sort of
faded away.
At about 4am this morning I
woke up needing a wee, and also
feeling freezing cold. I had the
heater on low all last night, and so
it shouldn't have been that cold, but
I was completely uncovered when I woke
up. At that point describing myself as
freezing cold was a bit of an
exaggeration, but after going in the
bathroom, with an icy wind blowing
through the open window, I did feel
very unpleasantly cold. Before I got
back to bed I turned the heater up
full, and made sure I was completely
covered by the duvet cover. The way
the time passed after that meant I
must have got some sleep, but it felt
like I was awake most of the time.
When I finally hauled myself
out of bed again I still felt a bit
cool. It did occur to me that maybe I
had a fever. I take my temperature
every morning, and record it, and this
morning I was far from a fever. The
thermometer said my temperature was
just 35.0° C. That is quite low, but
also quite normal for me. My next
reading was not so good. It was my
blood glucose reading. It was
9.6mmol/l, and that is getting close
to the danger zone. It was not
surprising after the breakfast I had
yesterday, and the sweet beers I drank
later in the day. I think most of the
snacks I had were mostly safe. Of
course it didn't help that I started
off with a high reading yesterday
morning.
Today really ought to be guided
by that high blood glucose reading. In
a different reality I would go out
train spotting/rail exploring for the
day, and avoid all food. In this
reality I can't go on trains without a
face mask, and I will now bow to
wearing one just to get on a train.
Unless it gets significantly brighter
later today, I don't think I will be
going out for any exercise. I think
today will just be another boring day,
stuck inside, and somehow ignoring the
urge to eat. Maybe some other
option may present itself later, but I
doubt it.
