Lockdown
day 420 466
10:31 BST
Yesterday started out a bit dull, but it
seemed like it might be a passable day, but then,
just before midnight, it started to rain is
complete defiance of the weather forecast. The
rain lasted at least an hour, and although it was
mostly light rain, there were a few minutes here
and there when it was quite heavy. That put a
dampener on the day - which was a shame because
some of the afternoon was almost nice. I seem to
recall there was even a sunny spell. There were
many more as the afternoon ended and the evening
was rather pleasant. I have a feeling it might
have been very slightly warmer than the forecast
20° C.
Today's
weather is not following the weather
forecast, although the forecast is
being revised to more closely match
reality. The day started quite dull,
and then there was a shower. That was
followed by the sun trying to come
out. The latest revision to the
forecast says 10am, or now, should
feature heavy rain, and indeed it did
start raining again a little while
ago, but it looks like it might have
just been a passing shower of moderate
strength. The latest revision predicts
just light cloud for most of the day
with the chance of rain dropping to
20% at midday, and then 10% for the
rest of the day. I would not be
surprised if we didn't have a short
sunny spell at some time during the
afternoon. The current prediction says
today's temperature will be no more
than 19° C, but I reckon it is already
20° C ! Tomorrow may see complete
cloud cover, but rain is not expected
until 9pm, and the temperature could
be no more than 19° C.
I
ended up doing very little
yesterday. I didn't even have a
shower ! I was working up to it
though, but it started getting
duller outside, and then when the
rain started, at 11.45am if I
recall correctly, it sapped the
last bit of enthusiasm from
me. What I was building up
to was to spend an hour or more in
the garden trying to sort out one
or both flower beds. Both are
devoid of flowers, and one is very
weed infested. My intention was to
turn the soil over, and to
continue last year's work of
extending the brick border between
the grass and flower bed.
None of these things
happened, but I did read a lot,
and I continued my project to rip,
or re-rip all my CDs. As I think I
mentioned yesterday, and probably
a few times before that, I don't
have a "hi fi" with CD player, and
get all my musical entertainment
from one of my PCs. Playing the
music as mp3 files is the easiest
way. It is interesting what I find
as I go through some long
neglected CDs. Many are rubbish,
and one day may end up being
donated to a charity shop, but
there are some that are a bit
obscure, but deserving of a play
or two. All I have to do is to try
and remember which ones they are
at some future date.
My dinner was part two of
the takeaway I got the previous
night. Part 1 was a simple chicken
shish kebab. I don't think it was
as nice as the lamb shish kebab I
had the previous night. The lamb
was tender and moist, but the
chicken was a bit dry. Part two
was a bit naughty. What I ordered
was simply grilled chicken wings.
It said nothing about them coming
with chips, but they did, and to
make matters worse, I ate the
chips.
I felt quite full after
that dinner, and once again the
added hot chilli sauce brought me
out in a hot sweat. Fortunately I
had cooled off by bed time,
although by bed time I really mean
when for want of anything more
entertainment, I retired to bed
with the book I am currently
reading. I read until it was just
about dark outside, and I guess I
was asleep around 10pm. As is now
traditional, I woke up every 2 or
3 hours for a wee, but overall I
feel I slept well last night.
Until about 3am I was
wearing ear plugs, and so I
wouldn't have heard any mousey
sounds. It is almost feeling like
the encounter I had with a mouse 3
or 4 (or 5 ?) nights ago was just
a one off. Where it came from, and
where it went to is a mystery.
Maybe it went out the same way it
had got into the house, although I
will admit that is stupidly
optimistic. All that is certain is
that I never saw it, never heard
it, and it didn't take the peanuts
I had used to bait a few traps.
It was inevitable, and I
should have stopped myself doing
it, but eating those chips last
night meant my blood glucose did
not go down as low as I hoped. In
fact it went up to 9.0mmol/l from
7.9mmol/l yesterday morning. Oh
well, at least it wasn't as high
as the 10.1mmol/l the two mornings
ago. The rest of my health seems
quite good though. My blood
pressure remains nice and low, but
more useful for me is that I seem
fairly clear of my usual aches and
pains. My knees seem OK, and my
back seems supple this morning.
I got off to a late start
writing this because I have been
slightly busy. This morning not
only have I had a good shower, but
I have washed and conditioned my
hair. I have also taken out the
stuff to the recycling bin, and I
have fed the birds. The reason for
being extra clean, and emptying
the indoor recycling bin, is
because Sunday is another boozing
day. Sometime this afternoon Jodie
will arrive to help me fill the
recycling bin again with empty
beer cans and bottles !
