The latest
revision to the weather forecast had
only made one small change to that
shown in the screenshot above. That
small change is to say there should be
sunny spells right now. There were a
few earlier, but when I look at the
sky it seems unlikely to be any more
for a while. The sky is almost 100%
light grey at the moment. Maybe the
sunny spells may return at 6pm, maybe
earlier, or maybe not at all. Today is
going to be cooler than recently -
just 19° C. Tomorrow may be 20° C, but
any joy from that is flattened by the
prediction of light, possibly drizzly
rain all day !
I can't describe
yesterday as good, but than again, I
can't describe it as a bad day. I have
to say that the sunny spells, even
when the sun was quite hazy, were very
cheering, and under other circumstance
I could have easily raised the
enthusiasm to go out even if it was no
more than a short walk to the shops. I
did have in mind, as I think I
mentioned yesterday morning, the idea
that I might have done some free, but
mostly pointless train travel using my
Freedom Pass. For some strange reason
I want to see what Woolwich Dockyard
station looks like. As far as I can
remember I have only gone through it
on a train, and never got off there. I
am not expecting to see a relic of the
past, even though that is what I would
hope for, but....I dunno, I'm just
curious.
Until the time got near for
Jodie to arrive I did a bit more of
the long job I do from time to time -
that of getting every mp3 file,
whether it is music, or something like
a recording of the radio, onto one
master hard disk. It is quite a
tedious job, and will get worse as I
go through some older disk or CDs
trying to find stuff that isn't
already in the master collection. A
further complication is when, for
instance, on some disks an album by
The
Strawbs could be files as just
Strawbs.
At this point I must confess I don't
which is correct. A further
complication on top of that is they
could be files under
Strawbs, The.
There are many bands that might, or
might not have a "The" at the start of
their name.
Once again Jodie arrived
feeling a bit off colour. Apparently
she had been to an awful gig the night
before, and could have gone to another
instead of coming here. Coming here
was the better option for her. We
didn't really get through that much
beer, but it was enough to perk her
up, and she left in time to get a
train just before 7pm heading for
London Bridge instead of home. Having
had some hair of the dog she was off
to meet another mate for a couple of
drinks in a pub near London Bridge.
After eating two cheese and
tomato rolls for breakfast, and one
packet of crisps while drinking, I
decided I had better have nothing
worse than a couple of cans of soup
known for their low sugar content. I
had a can of leek and potato, and a
can of lentil soup. They were both
very nice, but it seems they didn't
fully satisfy me... well not when I
was hovering on boredom watch a movie
on Talking Pictures TV.
The movie, or film as we would
say in England, was the classic from
1949 "
Passport
To Pimlico". It is a really
wonderful film, and somehow part
predicted Brexit troubles, but in the
opposite direction. If there was one
problem is that I have seen it enough
time before that there were times when
I felt very slightly bored. The
problem with that is that I hit the
rice crackers and cheese. That wasn't
good. There was also the problem that
bloody Lee phoned up, and started
wittering away as the climax of the
film approached. He only hung up as
the film ended.
I went to bed straight after
(almost - I brushed my teeth first). I
read for a little while, but I may
have been asleep around 10pm. Last
night was one of those nights where
you think you are sleeping badly
because you don't realise that you
have actually slept solidly for maybe
3 hours even if it only feels like 10
minutes - unless the clock was lying !
I ended up getting up at about 7am as
I usually do. It didn't feel like I
had got all the sleep I thought I
wanted, but everything was fine until
I started writing this paragraph, and
couldn't stop yawning !
The bad news this morning was
that my blood glucose only dropped
from 9.1mmol/l yesterday to 9.0mmol/l
this morning. Today I have to do my
best to fast for as long as I can, and
ideally to dinnertime. This is tricky
because I needed to do a bit of
shopping this morning, and I have been
to Iceland. I had to close my eyes
when passing some of their fridges. It
was a bit annoying that all the soup
they sell is made by Heinz, and with a
few exceptions, most of it is not as
low in sugar as I desire. However, I
did stock up on these.....
There are two catches with
these sugar free biscuits, plus one
awful thing. "Zeroh" just sounds crap
! They say sugar free, but they do
have some residual sugar, and of
course they are all carbohydrate that
the body converts to sugar. They are a
semi-good idea, but they have to be
treated with respect - very much so
when you consider their calorific
value. They are a good example of how
low sugar and low calories rarely go
together.
I saw this sight through my
kitchen window quite early this
morning. It is only the second time I
have seen a squirrel in my garden, and
on the first occasion it leapt off the
fence onto the bird table. This time
it travelled across the garden to
climb up the tree stump that the bird
table is fixed to. I can't really tell
if it managed to get any peanuts
through the wire mesh, but it probably
did...at least I have seen magpies
manage it so it is not impossible.
Now comes the question of what
I am going to do today. I know I
definitely need a good distraction
today if I am going to fast until
early evening (6pm) if I can. I am
hovering on the idea of going out
railway station spotting (for want of
a better description). I don't fancy a
long walk in the park even if it would
be more beneficial to me. What I
really feel like now is a brief lay
down to let my muscles and joints
relax after sitting here typing for so
long. I will probably do just that !
