I don't
think the latest revision to the
forecast has actually changed anything
except a few small changes for the end
of the day. At the moment it is dry,
but very dull, and the idea of full
sunshine appearing at 10am, or 14
minutes time as I type this, seems
like a joke. I think it would need the
power of a nuclear explosion to clear
the thick clouds from the sky.
However, at some point the sun might
break through, and most of the
afternoon should be bright. The
current revision still says there
could be a light shower at 2pm, and
adds another at 4pm, but otherwise it
should be like the screenshot above.
The early afternoon could see the
temperature rise to 16° C. The middle
of tomorrow could be similar to today,
but the early morning, and early
evening could feature some rain.
Yesterday was a very miserable
day. I felt no urge to do anything
except vegetate. The rain that was
forecast, and the dull skies sapped
any enthusiasm from me, and I couldn't
even be bothered to go and buy any
birdseed. Those fat pigeons will just
have to live off the land ! It was all
made worse by an unexpected stomach
upset mid morning. Considering I had
not eaten that much the day before, I
was very surprised by how much I had
to pass in my two and a half visits to
the toilet (the half visit was more
wind than anything, but it was wise
not to take a chance).
Going to the toilet seemed to
drain me of any energy I might have
had, and I ended up laying down
quietly reading. I was most probably
going to do that anyway, and so I
guess it didn't really make any
difference. I ended up passing a lot
of the day laying on my bed reading,
and also snoozing. I do seem to snooze
very easily since my second Covid jab
back in May. I don't think it is noted
as a side effect, but the idea is very
compelling. In the second half of this
month I may have a booster shot of the
Pzizer vaccine (my first 2 were Astra
Zeneca). It will be interesting what
that, and possibly a 'flu jab at the
same time, will do to me.
Although I was bored, and
miserable a lot of the time, I somehow
stuck to my guns with regard to trying
to keep my sugar consumption down to
as low as possible. For instance, at
lunchtime I was feeling quite hungry,
I managed to just have one can of soup
instead of the two I would usually
have. I did have an occasional nibble
on some nuts and seeds, but I waited
until dinnertime to really mess things
up.
Sometime you are constrained in
your choice of food by what you have
in the fridge, and more significantly
using it up before it's "best
before" date. I had some lamb kebabs
from Aldi that were getting near their
use before date, and I must admit I
was very curious to find what they
were like. They were not shish or
donor kebabs, but the other one -
minced lamb and seasoning, and shaped
like a lolly on a stick.
As I cooked them I noted there
was a lot of fat coming off. I should
have expected that because lamb is
quite a fatty meat, and you can be
sure they were not made from any nice
cut of meat. My original intention was
to have them with some salad, but I
had already eaten all I had bought. I
could have grilled some peppers and
onion to go with the kebabs, but I
decided something to mop up the fat
would be the best thing. A rummage
through the cupboard revealed a sachet
of "heat and eat" rice with quinoa.
I had bought that rice out of
curiosity, and then decided it
wouldn't be good for me. It may have
been in the cupboard a couple of
years, but last nice I gave it the
recommended 2 minutes in the
microwave, and ate it with the kebabs.
It was all still rather greasy, but
very nice except for the after taste.
I think another legacy of the time I
had Covid in February 2019, and lost
my sense of smell and taste, is that
the after taste of garlic is pretty
foul. Overall it was a nice dinner,
but one with consequences.
Last night I didn't seem to
sleep that well, but on the other hand
it wasn't bad either. I seemed to
sleep through long chunks of time, but
would often have difficulties getting
back to sleep. This was at it's worst
at around 1am. After maybe three hours
of sleep I woke for a wee. Very
shortly after getting back in bed my
left fool started to itch around the
instep. I have a nasty feeling that
these itches, that have been popping
up randomly over the last few years,
and possibly more, are something to do
with nerve damage. They feel like a
little itchy cut, but I can never see
any damage. I don't know if it does
any good, apart from passing a bit of
time, but massaging the area with some
sort of moisturising cream seems to
help.
I had a whole stream of dreams
in the last 3 (?) hours of sleep. They
seemed to share a common background -
that being based on where I last
worked, but not exactly the same. I
can remember many snapshots from those
dreams, but I can't remember enough to
write any coherent description,
although there was one where I can
describe the technology. That
technology was a record pressed from
tin, or more accurately the groove was
cut directly into the tin. It seems
that the company down the corridor
used this process as a replacement for
"acetates" - trial versions of a
record which were once handed to radio
stations and the like. I can remember
retrieving an interesting tin disk
from the rubbish bin.
I woke up at 7am, as usual, but
after a wee I decided to try for some
more sleep. I was probably only asleep
for half the time, but I managed to
stay in bed until about 8am this
morning. It wasn't long before the
consequences of the rice and kebabs I
had for dinner to show themselves this
morning. My blood glucose was back up
to 9.5mmol/l. That was not good, but
not unexpected. Rice may not have any
added sugar, but it, like all
carbohydrates, produces a lot when it
is digested.
Today I ought to fast until
dinnertime, and ideally take that
easy, but that can't happen. This
afternoon will be a boozing session
with Jodie. I think I'll have some
grilled bacon to buffer the beer, and
then maybe, and I admit it is a big
and wobbly maybe, just have soup for
dinner.
Oddly enough I have already
done some productive things today, and
there should be more. The first thing
was to wash my hair, and have a good
shower. I don't think I even combed my
hair yesterday, and I certainly didn't
have a shower. Brushing my teeth was
the only bit of personal hygiene
yesterday. After my shower and shampoo
I started to process to do a bit of
laundry. I have a hand towel, a
t-shirt, and some underwear soaking in
detergent. I am making the grand
assumption that this afternoon will
feature some sunshine. The latest
revision does acknowledge that it is
still dull now, but insists it will
brighten up soon, and now says there
will be no rain at all for the rest of
the day.....we'll see !
