The forecast
has changed quite a lot since taking
the screenshot above. There was rain
in the small hours of the morning but
it was all over by 7am. As I look out
the window now I see a lot of blue
sky, but there is one bank of dark
looking cloud, and it is exactly where
the sun should be rising. If it were
not for that one bank of cloud it
would be sunny right now. Apparently
it will now be sunny for just one hour
at 11am today. The rest of the day
will see light cloud. Between 1 and
3pm there is a 30% chance of light
rain, and there could be more light
rain at 7pm and 10pm. I expect even
these predictions will change
drastically in the next, and following
revisions of the forecast. The one bit
that has changed little is the
temperature. After a cool morning the
temperature should peak at 16° C, but
now it is predicted to be that high
for just one hour at 2pm. The one
feature about tomorrow that may also
be correctly predicted is the
temperature, and a cold day is
predicted with the temperature
possibly not rising above 14° C. The
rest of the forecast for tomorrow
looks to be random samples of
everything between rain and sunshine
in all degrees.
In some respects, yesterday was
a more bad day than a good day,
although like most days it had it's
moments. I finished writing yesterday
saying I had started the process of
doing a bit of laundry. I had got as
far as soaking a hand towel, a
t-shirt, and three pair of underpants
in detergent. I finished the wash,
three rinses, and then fabric
conditioner, no later than mid
morning, and hung it all on the
washing line to dry.
I reasoned that if I
acted fast enough if it should start
to rain, I could at least get it three
quarters dry before bringing it all in
to dry indoors. It was a good theory,
but it had one fatal flaw. I fell
asleep in the afternoon, and woke up
to see a black sky. By the time I had
put on some shoes, and went downstairs
there was torrential rain, and a very
strong wind. That wind was strong
enough to rip the plastic tarpaulin on
the scaffolding around the house at
the back that is having a loft
extension built.
I decided not to go out in that
torrent to bring that laundry in, and
just resigned myself to the fact it
was possibly wetter than when I hung
it up. The rain went as quickly as it
came. By the time Jodie arrived, maybe
15 to 20 minutes later, the sun was
out again. Unfortunately Jodie was not
in a sunny mood. She thought she had a
cold. It could have been bad hay
fever, but she also said she didn't
feel very good in other ways.
I'm not sure why Jodie came
over yesterday because she wasn't
enjoying herself. It wasn't until the
end of the session, that ended a bit
earlier than usual, and after a few
whiskies that she perked up. She
announced that she was going to
inflict herself on Armitage because he
had more whiskies or something. Once
Jodie had left my thoughts turned very
quickly to food. I had a plate of
grilled bacon for a late lunch. It
was, of course, to buffer the beer I
would be drinking, but it was also
very delicious !
I had eaten almost nothing
apart from that bacon, and decided
that with my blood glucose rather high
in the morning, I was going to have to
be very careful about what I ate for
dinner. The simplest solution was soup
- and lots of it ! I ended up having
three cans of soup - one can of pea
and ham, one can of lentil, and the
third can was chunky vegetables and
beef. The latter can had a higher, but
still low-ish sugar content.
It's hard to say when I went to
sleep last night. I feel sure it
wasn't that long after 9pm. After
watching a few more ancient episodes
of Blakes Seven I went to bed with the
book I am currently reading (the
autobiography of Isaac Asimov), and I
read for quite some time. As I get
near the end of the book more and more
deaths are mentioned. What is
interesting is the amount of people
who died from their late 50s to late
60s. That is sort of my age, but what
is most interesting is that many of
them were sudden deaths - things like
heart attacks. It makes me wonder if
one daay I won't make it back from,
for instance, the supermarket !
There is not a lot to say about
my sleep. It was interesting that I
thought I woke up at 3.04am to go for
a wee, and apparently woke up again at
3.05am, before I had even got back in
bed, for another wee. Was one a dream,
and if so, how many other times have I
dreamed I had woken up for a pee
? Maybe I ought to keep a
notebook in the toilet so I can jot
down the time, and then not have to
rely on possibly false memories.
The only other thing of note was
that it was at 3am that I decided it
was getting a bit cool in my bedroom,
and turned the heater on low. I seemed
to sleep a lot better for a while
after that. I don't know if it was the
extra warmth (only a matter of a
couple of degrees), or whether it is
the whirr of the fan that is some sort
of soothing sound. My sleep did seem
to be a bit disturbed from maybe just
before 6am until 7am when it seemed
like time to get up. Maybe I could
have got up earlier.
Since 7am I have been a bit
busy. I've had a shower, and I've been
to Aldi. Once upon a time I used to
enjoy my early morning visits to Aldi
when it was quiet in there. Now I feel
I don't have to get there that early,
and there is some thought that getting
there later, such as at 9am like this
morning, is better because there is a
better chance of a manned checkout
being open. Since they opened the self
service checkouts I have viewed each
visit with something akin to fear.
This morning I had no worries because
someone else with a trolley full of
stuff had to do the big wait before
the checkout was opened. I just had to
queue behind her.
The first rain is now expected
at 1pm today, but there is only a 30%
chance of it, and even if it does rain
it could be just a light passing
shower. I probably ought to go out for
a walk of something today. The trouble
is I really don't feel like it. My
legs and joints feel stiff after the
recent rain. Even the walk to and from
Aldi didn't seem to loosen them up. I
might possibly compromise and go and
play on the trains for a few hours. I
could potentially go to Clapham
Junction to do some trainspotting, but
I bet I don't.
