The temperature
dipped to little more than 6° C in the
small hours of this morning, but warmed to
12° C when the thick cloud moved in. The
forecast says there will be a lot of heavy
rain. It is certainly raining now, and has
been for the last hour or two, but I don't
think I would call it heavy, but heavy
drizzle may be more apt. If nothing else
it is persistent. The latest revision to
the forecast says it will all be over by
11am, and soon after there will be solid
sunshine until sunset - which is
ridiculously early (4.36pm) now the clocks
have changed. This afternoon's temperature
is unlikely to be better than 14° C,
although it should feel a bit warmer in
direct sunshine. Tomorrow should be dry
with sunny spells, but rather cool with
only 13° C predicted for an hour or two.
It was inevitable that the horrible
grey and wet start to yesterday would
quench any desire to do anything, but then
it started to brighten up. By midday I
started to think that maybe I could do
something - even go for a walk. I spent a
little while, maybe 20 minutes, checking,
and changing a few settings on my Nikon
D80 camera to see if I could change the
auto exposure to make the picture look a
bit brighter. Essentially I changed spot
metering to whole picture metering. That
might mean some part of the picture
(probably the sky) would be over exposed,
but hopefully the main subject would look
better.
I think it was 1pm and I was ready
to go out, but the appeal of a long walk
was just not there. I did go out, but
without a camera, and only to
Poundstretcher. I managed to spend a fair
bit of money in there buying bird food and
(not terribly noticeable) scented candles.
I also bought a few other odds and sods -
which included some food. I very nearly
bough a bag of chocolate things, but I
thought that might be pushing thins too
far. I did buy a packet of Cadbury's
chocolate fingers though.
I probably spent most of the
afternoon working on my spreadsheet
catalogue of trains I had taken fair to
good photographs of. Sometime it feels
like I am getting close to the end, albeit
the first end, of the project, but then I
discover I went on another trip that
involved lots of photographs. As I said
yesterday, in so many words, once I get to
the end I will have to start from the
beginning (as in my earliest photographs)
again to include links to missed photos.
Then I will have to consider all the
photos of old slam door trains. That might
mean investigating what classes of trains
they are - new trains have a number that
instantly tells you the class, but older
trains just had a cryptic 4 digit number.
I had fish fingers for breakfast
yesterday. After that I ate few snack, but
I did eat a lot of instant noodles. I had
instant noodles for lunch, and instant
noodles for dinner. It was an experiment
to see how they might affect me. It was
also a good opportunity to compare
Batchelors Instant "super noodles" with
cheaper "Pound shop" instant noodles.
Without exception I found the higher
priced (as much as double or treble the
price) Batchelors "super noodles" to be
very inferior to cheap instant noodles.
The bacon flavoured noodles that seemed
like a good idea were particularly bad !
I was hoping that instant noodles
would add very little sugar to my food
intake, and because of that belief I did
allow myself 5 or 6 chocolate fingers.
They were, or course, very nice, but I did
feel it was impossible to savour the full
flavour without eating double that amount,
but that would be almost the whole box. It
was probably worth stopping where I did so
I can do it again - maybe tonight. I also
treated myself to three small bottles of
beer.
I did a bit more to my spreadsheet,
and watched the 9pm QI on Dave before
going to bed at 10pm. I don't remember
much after that, and so I assume I fell
asleep fairly quickly, and I think I slept
fairly well until I woke at 2am feeling
like it might be time to turn the heater
on low. By that time my outside
thermometer was saying 6° C, or possibly
even 5° C, and I was wondering if there
would be a frost in the morning.
If the temperature continued to
drop there could have been snow instead of
rain this morning ! However, the
temperature must have started to rise
again soon after that. The most
significant thing during the night went by
completely unnoticed. It was the clocks
changing from BST to GMT. I woke up when
my PC and phone said to was about 6.15am.
I thought that was much to early to get
up, but then it dawned on me that it was
actually 7.15
BST, and so
not an outrageous time to get up. Whether
my body will drift into sync with GMT
remains to be seen, but I can imagine
wanting to go to bed before the afternoon
is even over because it is dark outside.
Once I had been to the toilet, and
washed my hands, I checked my blood
glucose to see what my experiment had
produced. My blood glucose was up a bit,
and initially I was dismayed to see it was
8.0mmol/l, but it was still low compared
to most of the month. Best of all is that
it was low enough to bring my end of month
average down to 8.31mmol/l, and that is a
new record low so far this year.
I now face a dilemma. This morning
is very dull, and very wet. I don't fancy
doing anything at all, and yet if the
afternoon is bright and sunny I ought to
try and make use of it. I suppose the most
interesting thing might be to take a
wander in the park, probably the linear
park, and see if the river is a raging
torrent after all this rain. Before that I
might just do some quiet reading. I might
even have a shower....I probably need one.
