Yesterday was the last of a string of days that featured a lot of rain in the morning, and sunny spells in the afternoon. There was a weather warning out for yesterday's morning rain. It was forecast to be very heavy, but I would describe as more like heavy drizzle. Maybe those to the south of here may have had torrents of rain, and local flooding, but here it was just gloomy and wet. The afternoon certainly featured sunny spells, but I can't remember any continuous sunshine. It was very warm either. There were probably a couple of hours when the temperature rose to 14° C, but no more.
bright but quite cool
As I write this the sun has yet to rise high enough to clear the tops of the houses to the east, but there is a lot of clear sky, and today could feature a lot of sunshine, even long spells of uninterrupted sunshine. It won't make it warm though. The top temperature today will be no more than 13° C. That may not feel too bad in direct sunshine, but otherwise will be rather cool. Today marks a turning point, and we now get typical November weather. The temperature for the week ahead (if such a long term forecast has any meaning) will rarely reach above 10° C, and at least one morning is predicted to be misty....or was forecast. Since refreshing the page the mist no longer shows, and now tomorrow may be very sunny with the temperature roaring up to 11° C.....errrr

I suppose yesterday was quite a good day. The dark skies and persistent rain sapped any enthusiasm to do anything in the morning, and I let the hours drift by quietly reading, and also doing a bit more work on my train photos catalogue (spreadsheet style). It must have been just before midday when Jodie phoned to ask what was happening.  I find it hard to keep track of what Jodie is up to. Maybe it is because we usually make future plans at the end of a drinking session ! Anyway, it turns out that she wasn't off to a gig, like I thought she was, and wanted to come over for our usual Sunday drinking session.

That gave me 3 hours to get myself cleaned up, the dining room cleaned up, and the glasses polished. It also gave me plenty of time to test my train photos spreadsheet on the low powered laptop I only use now for playing music in the dining room. As expected, it was slightly slow opening up the spreadsheet, but once opened it seemed quite fast enough to navigate through it with no annoying delays. The only annoyance was that many of the links I had put in to open pictures of the train referred to didn't work.

Some did, but it seems a lot of the links referred back to my desktop computer, where I have been making the spreadsheet, and not the folder of pictures on the memory stick I had copied all the files too. I found it strange that some worked, and other didn't. Later on, after Jodie had gone home I checked on my desktop PC, and despite typing in the correct links, many seemed to have reverted to wanting to describe the full path to the pictures via my desktop PCs file system. It is an annoying mystery.

Jodie arrived just before 3pm, which was early for her. One reason was that she was going on to a date with some man she has made friends with, but that was not to be until 6pm. We still had time to drink quite enough to get at least a little squiffy, but oddly enough we didn't. I think most of the beers we drank were around the 4% region, and not some of the 6+% beers we often have.

One thing that took a little time was when I showed Jodie the beer Advent calendar I had ordered from Beerwulf (the people who managed to get my order to me in about 24 hours). It was of course naughty to check the beers before the correct time, but even if we waited for December we would have to do them in batches instead of one beer a day. What started out as showing a few samples turned out to be every beer in the box. To my astonishment Jodie had never had any of them before !  A few were from local breweries, and so were less exciting, but there were some that Jodie was very interested in.

By December I should have 4 beer Advent calendars here, and that is another reason for starting on them early. With luck three of them should have some interesting beers in them. The fourth, and the first to arrive from The Bier Company, is really well packaged in a glossy printed box, but the selection of beers, or at least the ones I have already peeked at, are not going to generate much excitement.

Jodie left at about quarter to 6 to walk to The Ninth Life - the strangely painted pub in Catford where she was going to meet her new mate at 6pm. After a drink in there they were going to sample the delights of the meandering, and very meandering bus service to Eltham, and The Rusty Bucket pub. Apparently they have some beer on that Jodie desperately needs to try. After she went I sorted out my dinner of more instant noodles.

I couldn't force my body to accept the change to GMT last night, and I was heading for bed at 7.30pm (or 8.30pm BST in old money). I might have stayed up later if there had been anything to watch on TV. One thing I did try and watch was Dr Who. I gave up on Dr Who years ago, and the news that the doctor was regenerating as a woman put me off even thinking about looking in on it. I believe the current woman doctor is coming to the end of her tenure, and will be regenerating again, and may have even done it in last night's episode. I was in the right place at the right time to tune in, but after 10 minutes I gave up in disgust. What I saw was more like an advert - loads of rushing about, high drama, and cutting from scene to scene every 2 seconds. I think I'll stick to watching recordings of the old style Dr Who.

I read in bed for some time, but I think I was possibly asleep soon after 8pm (GMT). Apart from a disturbing dream about a house, presumably my house, that was over run by mice, rats, and cats who didn't seem to want to catch the mice and rats, I seemed to sleep well until I woke up at 6am, and couldn't get back to sleep again. I guess I had had my 8 hours, and wasn't entitled to more.

Yesterday I indulged in the rest of the box of Cadbury's chocolate fingers, 4 packets of noodles, fish cakes for breakfast, and some assorted snacks, plus of course some beers. I would have expected that lot, particularly the Cadbury's chocolate fingers, to push my blood glucose up to some naughty figure, but it seems it didn't. It seems I have started the month with my blood glucose at just 8.0mmol/l. I would still very much prefer it to be 7.5mmol/l, or even a bit less, but it is a great start, and unless whatever magic is keeping it this low fades away, I could be looking for another record low end of month average. Of course there is still a lot of month to go !

So far today I have had a shower, and soon after finishing this scribbling I will put on some outdoor clothes so I can go shopping in Aldi. After that I may have some breakfast, and after that...??????? I suppose it ought to be something in the sunshine, but I'll see how I feel after getting back from Aldi.
