One feature
of the weather I was unaware of was that
there must have been a fair bit of wind
in the night if the leaves outside my
front door weren't dumped along the road
as a prank. The nearest broad leaved
trees are in the park maybe 3 or 4
hundred yards away. By my reckoning it
was only about 4° C this morning, and
possibly as low as 3.5° C. It is a sunny
morning, although it took until almost
9am before it was very obvious. The
latest revision to the forecast says the
sunshine should last until sunset. The
afternoon temperature should reach 10°
C, and in direct sunshine that should
feel OK provided there is no strong
wind. Tomorrow morning may see a frost.
There could be a few sunny spells, but
most of the day will be a bit dull, and
the temperature will struggle to reach
8° C.
Yesterday was one of those days
where it seems I forced myself to be
busy. I can't think how I managed that,
or even what I did, but I definitely
can't remember thinking I was bored. The
surprising thing is that I didn't snooze
more after my lack of sleep the night
before. I do remember one snooze, but it
is only a guess to say it lasted for an
hour.
One thing thing I definitely did
was to do a bit of laundry. The two
important items in that wash were a pair
of bar towels. One of them was on my
bedside table, and had possibly been
there since before I paused smoking
until I reach 80 years of age. That
towel was responsible for turning the
first wash water a bit muddy ! It was
while bending over the bath, giving
those towels, and a few items of
clothing a good wash in my big builders
buckets, that inspiration came to me.
I wondered how easy it would be
to buy some new bar towels. I bough two
of them when I placed an order with the
Fullers brewery, but I didn't want to
buy more from them, and I preferred not
to have to place an order for more beer
from anywhere so I could add a few bar
towels to it. I did an internet search
and found a few dodgy deals on ebay, and
two other places that sold bar towels.
One place was charging almost double the
price of
https://www.pub-paraphernalia.com.
It was obviously the latter where I
ordered a selection of bar towels.
Their London telephone number suggests
they probably trade from an industrial
estate in Camberwell. That makes their
delivery fee of £7.50 a bit high
compared to the fare on the 185 bus from
Catford to just after Kings College
Hospital.
One thing about doing that
washing was that I hung it up to dry on
the clothes horse in front of the heater
in the front room. After a while the
front room was warm enough to work in,
and I set up my laptop, and an old HP
printer/scanner (of which only the
scanner works), and then spent some time
scanning some stuff that I had been
meaning to do for some time. I never did
finish all the scanning because my knees
were hurting too much when trying to
work from the settee to coffee table.
I actually gave up when the film
Star Trek: Insurrection finished on Film
4. I have to say it was one of the
better Star Trek movies. They took some
liberties with the uniforms, but the
crew were the correct actors for the
parts. The special effects were very
restrained, although the extra money
involved in movie making allowed for
bigger sets, and much more CGI. I think
I enjoyed it.
One of the things I was supposed
to be trying to do yesterday was to be
very careful with what I was eating. To
a limited extent I managed to achieve
that, but there were a few outliers that
I might have been able to avoid on a
bright warm day. On the other hand, on a
bright warm day I might have been out
exercising, and that would allow a few
liberties in my diet. To some extent
being distracted from food by being out
on a walk, maybe even a coastal walk
that would have kept me out half the
day, would have been even better.
During the evening, which now
starts at 4.30pm when it gets dark, I
expected my lack of sleep the night
before to catch up on me very early.
Oddly enough it didn't, or at least not
until the last minute. I went to bed
early because I felt I should, rather
than feeling that I needed to. I read
for a while, and it was then that I
suddenly began to feel tired. I put the
book down, turned out the light, and was
asleep in next to no time. I think that
was possibly before 9pm.
I slept well for most of the
night. I don't think I even got up to
pee as often as most nights, and that
was despite drinking two cans of strong
Polish beer earlier on. I had a wide
variety of dreams, but I can only
remember remnants of them now. One
included a bus ride, and another a train
ride. The only one I can really comment
on is one that with hindsight is sort of
amusing. It involved going for a
lunchtime meal in a very exclusive
Chinese restaurant. It was very
exclusive because they opened at midday,
and would only allow one hundred people
in, and then would kick them all out
when they closed at 2pm. I think they
provided doggy bags for those who had
not finished their meals because
everyone
had to leave at 2pm !
I woke just before 6am, and under
different circumstances I might have got
up then, but it was quite cool in my
bedroom. I had a pee, turned the heater
up full, and got back into bed to wait
for the room to warm up a bit. Nearly 90
minutes later I woke up again ! I may
have got 10 hours sleep last night, and
almost worked of my sleep debt, but I
wouldn't be surprised if I didn't get in
a long snooze or two today, or if not,
another early night.
This morning my blood glucose was
down to a more respectable 8.6mmol/l. I
would be happier if it were lower, but
it is OK for now, although I think it
blows out any chance of a record monthly
average for this month. It will probably
be an average average ! Of course it
made it important to be careful with
what I bought when I went shopping in
Aldi this morning. On the whole I was
careful, but I took a few chances on a
few things.
This morning I seem to have a
mildly sore throat, and maybe a bit of
nasal stuffiness. It's a bit like a
cold. The odd thing is that I have seen
so few people recently that I wonder
where or who I caught it from. I thought
it might be prudent to buy some oranges
(in the form of little "easy pealers"),
and some kiwi fruit for a bit of extra
vitamin C. I meant to have some of that
fruit for breakfast, but I am taking a
chance of another purchase that might,
or might not be good. It was a sliced
loaf of Warburtons "no added sugar"
wholemeal bread. I've had a ham, and a
ham &cheese, sandwich for breakfast.
The ironic thing is that I didn't really
enjoy them because I found the taste of
the bread seemed to overpower the ham.
The main event today is a parcel
delivery from Amazon. It contains a 2TB
exteranl hard disk to make a back up
copy of the 2TB external hard disk I
spent so long the other days copying
over a terabyte of files to the other
day. That is going to hog my PC for a
large chunk of today again. The other
thing in the parcel is another radio
link temperature sensor. This one comes
with 3 external sensors. I can monitor
the garden temperature, maybe in two
places, and perhaps the kitchen or
bathroom. I must confess I ordered it
more for it's price than having a reason
for all three sensors. The thing I
mustn't do is fit lithium cells in the
external sensors. Lithium cells are
really great for some things, but I
think when very lightly loaded, such as
a sensor, they can produce too much
voltage, and kill the sensors. I killed
two nearly 2 years ago - they just
started eating batteries in a matter of
days - they should last a year of more.
This new one is a replacement for the
whole system. Ideally I could have found
just replacement sensors, but maybe I
didn't look hard enough for them.
