The morning
started with a lot of rain, although in
fact it had probably been raining all
through the early hours of the morning.
It seems to have stopped now, and the
sun is shining. The latest revision of
the forecast says nothing about any
sunshine this morning, and actually
shows more light rain for 10am. 11am is
shown as very dull, but maybe the early
version showing sunny spells will turn
out to be correct. The afternoon
temperature should be 10° C, and if, as
I hope, there is a bit more sunshine
than the sunny spells shown for 4pm, it
might be a nice afternoon. Tomorrow will
probably start almost cold enough for a
frost, but it will warm up, and there
should be plenty of sunshine, or sunny
spells until heavy clouds arrive at
sunset.
I don't seem to have that much
to say about yesterday. The one thing
I did do was to finish the laundry I
had left soaking since the previous
morning. I didn't feel ready to do it
until gone midday, and maybe it was
gone 1pm. A consequence of this was
that I couldn't use the bath for a
shower until my big buckets of hand
worked laundry were out of the bath.
It seemed so late when the bath was
free that I just couldn't be bothered.
If I was more certain I was
going out last night I would still
have had a shower, and washed my hair,
but I think by that time I had already
realised I would not be going out. I
found distractions on TV last night
that sealed that idea. The days are
getting noticeably longer now, and I
noted there was still light after 5pm,
but still the idea of going out when I
would be going to bed seemed so wrong.
The picture above is a
screenshot of part of the electronic
programme guide for BBC2 on Freeview,
and it shows the evening distractions.
The first programme, from 8.30pm to
10pm, was the best distraction of all.
It was a BBC made documentary about
Christine McVie, and her relationship
with Fleetwood Mac. Being made by the
BBC the journalism and research was
excellent, and the editing excellent.
There were no silly jump cut as many
"modern" documentaries use. Just
because the video editing program can
do a lot of things, there is often no
good reason to use them.
The other great thing is that
it was not edited to suit commercial
channels where there would be lots of
repetition to bridge the gaps between
far to frequent adverts (on American
inspired channels). I found myself
enjoying it on two levels. First there
was the music, albeit mostly in short
clips, but then there was the thing
that it was about Christine McVie. She
was rarely at the front of the band,
but I still liked her more than Stevie
Nicks who often sang in a very whiny
Californian voice. The most
interesting thing of all that came out
of the documentary was that after
Christine McVie rejoined the band
after a hiatus of 15 years, she was 69
years old. It made me think that maybe
there is hope for me yet.
I had my now usual two bowls of
instant noodles for breakfast and two
cans of soup for lunch. I wonder if I
could manage to cut those down to just
one of each ? Maybe I'll try some day
- maybe on a hotter day ! It got to
2pm and I was feeling bored, and maybe
a bit depressed. It was early, but I
fancied a beer. In the end I guzzled
through 4 cans of beer, and they were
all strong beers. Oddly enough, I
can't say that I felt drunk, and apart
from some nuts, I didn't really do any
snacking until dinner time.
My dinner was not particularly
healthy - mainly in terms of it's fat
content, but it probably had more salt
than needed too. It was well roasted,
so the fat was crispy, pork belly
strips. I had then with a small tin of
garden peas. I must check the sugar
content of those peas sometime because
some tinned peas can contain more than
others. It was a nice dinner, but it
had a strange effect. When I went for
a pee half an hour later my pee
smelled of pork !
There were three programmes I
could have watched on BBC2 last night,
but at 10pm, when the first one
finished, I turned off the TV and went
to bed. I read for maybe half an hour,
and by 11pm I was fast asleep. I think
I woke up for a pee more frequently
than usual, but other than that I
seemed to sleep well. I had the
occasional tussle with the duvet
because I was too hot or too cold, but
nothing that kept me awake for long.
At 6am I woke up, but
considered it to be too early, and
tried to go back to sleep. I don't
think I realised I had fallen asleep
again until I noticed it was 7.15am. I
got up then, and went to the toilet.
After washing my hands I checked my
blood glucose reading. It had gone up
a bit from 7.5mmol/l yesterday to
8.3mmol/l this morning. That was a
perfectly good figure. It is a little
below my average for last year. The
only bothersome thing is that I was
hoping for another lower reading in
the hope that this month could set a
new record low. That still could be
possible if I am lucky.
I've already had some breakfast
- another two bowls of instant
noodles. The next thing to do once I
have finished this writing is to
finally have a nice shower, and to
wash my hair. If I feel I have the
time and inclination I might pop out
to buy more instant noodles. My plan
for this afternoon is to go to
Greenwich. If it should be sunny I
might go and take some pictures of The
River Thames before wandering back to
The Morden Arms where I shall see Lord
Algea. It will be my first gig this
year, and the first time I have got on
a bus for months - assuming the driver
lets me on without a mask !
