As the pictures
show, there were six 330ml sized bottles,
two larger bottles of special beer, and
two cans. The two larger bottles have
their crown caps sealed with wax, and are
sometimes known as "cellar beers" because
the wax seal extends their life for
several or more years. I could save them
for Xmas, or even longer. All the rest of
the beers, plus 4 other beers from
different breweries, are in my little beer
fridge, and the first will be opened on
Thursday when Jodie is here.
The beers came with the thank you
note above, and so it was for a good cause
as well as trying some beers I have never
tried before. Just this morning, as I was
writing the paragraph above the thank you
note, I had another delivery of some
Estonian beers. I noticed them on Amazon
when ordering some other stuff. The only
downside is that I had to buy a box of 12
made up of 4 bottles each of only 3
different beers. I hope they are good
beers !
Getting that beer delivery (and
this morning's) was a great relief because
it takes a lot of uncertainty away. I
always find it hard to concentrate when I
am expecting a delivery, and don't really
know exactly when it will be. It meant I
was reluctant to do much during the day.
It was a rather peculiar days because it
should have been boring and depressing,
but somehow it wasn't.
One thing I did yesterday was to
copy Jodie's backup hard disk to a second
bigger hard disk so there are now copies
of the small hard disk. That small hard
disk can now be sued for something else,
but being so small I'll probably keep it
as it is as a further backup. While the
disk copying was going on downstairs on
the new dining room computer, I had
another go at the failed hard disk. I took
it out of it's case, and connected it to
my big PC using a SATA to USB interface
cable.
It was very easy to flip the top
off the case of this external hard drive
to reveal what is a standard sized laptop
hard disk (the middle bit of the picture
above). Connecting it by the interface
cable eliminated the tiny circuit board in
the case. I then deleted everything, and
re-formatted the drive using the more
robust ext4 disk system before trying to
copy a load of Jodie's pictures to it.
After about 20GB had been transferred it
must have hit a fault bit of the disk
platter, and it failed. I conclude this
hard disk is a complete failure. I am
expecting a new hard disk to put inside
the enclosure, with it's blue lid, to
arrive "some time before 9pm" today.
There is probably nothing much else
to tell about yesterday apart from what I
ate, and what TV I watched. My breakfast
was a single packet of lobster flavour
instant noodles. I don't think it tasted
anything like lobster, but it was
reasonably tasty in a sort of spicy way.
My lunch was a can of beans with smoky
bacon. It was one of the cans that come
from one of the Eastern European countries
where they use real fatty and smoky bacon
instead of whatever crap is put in with
crappy, and sugary baked beans.
During the afternoon I had some
lightly salted rice cakes with salad
leaves and Shropshire Blue cheese. Those
lightly salted rice cakes are so much
nicer than the multi-grain rice cakes I
was eating recently - and it would be hard
to use the word nice to actually describe
those multi-grain rice cakes. My dinner
was a whole pack of German "Frikkadilan",
or whatever they are called. They come
from Aldi, and are a sort of pork based
burger patty.
I watched two episodes of QI last
night - one a standard length, and the
other an extended, "QIXL", episode. The
latter finished at 10pm, and then I went
straight to bed where I read for half an
hour or so. I had no trouble getting to
sleep, and although I woke up maybe 4
times in the night for a pee, I slept
quite soundly. I had none of the odd
aches, pains, itches, or other things to
keep me awake. It wasn't dreamless sleep,
but my memories of those dreams is so
vague that there is nothing substantive to
describe.
Apart from the gloomy sky outside,
this morning is a sort of happy morning.
My blood glucose reading was down to just
8.2mmol/l, and although I would wish for a
lower reading, it is pretty good. As I
mentioned further up the page, I had a
delivery, via Royal Mail, of another box
of beers I had ordered. That is another
headache out of the way. The only headache
left is that I am expecting a delivery
from, and by Amazon today. Every so often
they surprise me by turning up earlier
than expected. Generally they always
arrive very late afternoon, and I am
relying on them being that late today
because I have things to do today.
Once I am washed and dressed I need
to go to Tesco for a little bit of
shopping. At 1pm I will be meeting Angela
in the pub for a couple of drinks
together. I'll be keeping my fingers
crossed all the time hoping that Amazon
don't pull a joker on me, and try an early
delivery today. After the drink it will
just be a matter of waiting for the
delivery, and looking forward to dinner.
It could be Turkish sausage with salad, or
maybe I'll find something exotic in Tesco
today.
