Yesterday started
off rather dull, and there was even a tiny
light shower, but eventually reality converged
with the weather forecast, and the afternoon
was generally bright with sunny spells, and
the temperature reached 20° C.
There are quite a
few clouds to the east where the sun is
rising, and some look rather grey, but the
western half of the sky only has mostly
streaky clouds. It looks like the chance of
strong sunshine this morning, and more later
this afternoon, with some sunny spells to fill
the gap, could well happen. The afternoon
should end up very warm at 25° C, but from 8pm
it looks like the garden could get a heavy
watering. Tomorrow should see some sunny
spells, but it may only be 22° C, and then,
once again, the garden could get another good
watering late in the evening.
My hangover got the better of me
yesterday morning. It wasn't a painful
hangover, but one where you just feel like
your brain has been replaced by a damp sock,
and weights have been added to your legs. To
make matters worse, the first few hours of the
morning were very dull, and these days it
seems I need sunshine to motivate me. I almost
did nothing at all yesterday, but almost is
not the same as actually doing nothing.
I did two things yesterday, and one was
fairly important. Some days ago I wrote that
my electric beard trimmer had died on me. I
managed to open it up, and found one of the
two internal rechargeable AA cells had failed.
Yesterday I replaced both cells. I was
reluctant to solder directly to the two cells
because the heat can cause internal damage,
but I had little choice about. I have yet to
use it on my beard, but it seems like my
surgery has cured the problem, although there
is a strange anomaly when charging. The
charging light flickers. I am wondering if the
charger is about to die, but at least for the
moment it is taking a charge, and the cutter
sounds as fast as it used to be.
The other thing I spent a lot longer on
was doing more to my train photo catalogue
spreadsheet. I had half a dozen pictures to
add from last Saturday, but after that it all
got a bit irritating. I feel sure there are
are pictures I have that I haven't included,
and I spent a lot of time going through all my
years of pictures looking for anything I might
have missed. I did find a few things, but
maybe less than expected. It is premature to
say the spreadsheet is fully up to date now,
but it must be very close - until I got out
and take more pictures !
I don't feel I was particularly lax
about choosing what to eat yesterday after
starting the day with a moderately low blood
glucose reading, but maybe I was. I can't
remember of I had one or two bowls of instant
noodles for breakfast, but I think it was
probably only one. At lunchtime I fancied
something different, and I had a couple of
Turkish sausages. They were of a different
make to the usual ones I buy, and I was quite
disappointed with them.
My dinner was very simple. It was ready
cooked and sliced flavoured chicken on a bed
of wild rocket. It was nice enough, but
somehow it didn't satisfy. Only half an hour
or so passed before I made up some supper. It
was two rice cakes with cheese and ham on
them, and two Marmite rice cakes with just
cheese on them. I think I had more rice cakes
earlier in the day, but I was probably stupid
and ate them while working on the train
pictures spreadsheet. I diverted all my
attention to the spreadsheet, and barely
noticed I was eating.
There was only two things on TV last
night. It seems that all the schedules changed
recently. Channel 4+1 were still showing The
Simpsons as usual, but Dave seems to have
dropped repeats of QI in favour of repeats of
Have I Got News For You. I watched the later,
and then went to bed. That was at about 10pm,
and I only read for a short while before I
went to sleep. I had a very strange night. It
took not thinking I was sleeping well, but
obviously was, to new levels.
I think I only woke three times in the
night, and that must be some sort of recent
record. Each time I woke up I didn't think I
would get back to sleep because I couldn't get
comfortable. The off thing is that the
discomfort wasn't actually pain. It felt
uncomfortable for almost unknown, or
unrealised reasons. Maybe silly things like
the duvet not covering me quite right. As far
as I am aware, each time when I seemed to be
thrashing around in bed, thinking I would
never get back to sleep, I was probably fast
asleep again in a time that could have been
almost timed in seconds.
The last time I was awake was just
after 3am - if I remember correctly, and there
is a lot of doubt about that - it could have
been a dream. One solid fact is that one
minute I was trying to find a comfortable
position to get to sleep, and the next minute
it was as good as full daylight outside. That
was at 5.30am, and too early to get up, but I
couldn't seem to find any good reason to stay
in bed, and I was up earlier than expected, or
wanted.
I must admit I took my time getting up,
but after a while I had scrubbed my hands (to
avoid contamination of a finger prick bead of
blood), and checked my blood glucose. It was
annoying that it had gone up to 8.5mmol/l.
That is very close to my average reading over
the last year or two, but I was hoping for a
figure under 8.0 like yesterday, and the day
before were.
Today the weather should be good for
outdoor activities, and I have been thinking
of another voyage of discovery using my
Freedom Pass. There are still 2 more stations,
Ewell East and Epsom Downs on Southern's
network I have yet to visit. If I was feeling
really energetic I could then change on to
South Westerns network, and visit Ewell West
and Chessington South. I did investigate
walking between Ewell East and Ewell West, but
I think it may be a bit too far for this sort
of exploration.
Of course none of this will probably
happen because I need to stay in for a beer
delivery today. It was on Sunday night, after
quite a few beers, and with Jodie's
assistance, I ordered yet more beers from
Beautiful Beers. I was particularly keen with
their clearance offers, although I only
ordered two from that list. Anyway, the fact
is that they will be here today - and probably
right in the middle of when I would/could be
doing other things. Oh well, one useful thing
today will be to wash some clothes, and get
them on the washing line to dry in the
sunshine.
