It was surprisingly
nice yesterday. There was loads of sunshine,
and I think the temperature hit 25° C - 2°
higher than forecast. The forecast almost got
it right when in one revision they predicted
the full sunshine would turn to sunny spells
at 4pm. It did happen, but I seem to think it
was probably a few hours later than that.
Sometimes it has
seemed bright enough that I thought the sun
had come out, but I don't think it had. It
seems that, so far, reality is following the
weather forecast. From late morning the cloud
will thicken, and rain is expected at midday.
The latest revision has changed light rain to
heavy rain, and there may be three hours of
it. From 3 to 6pm it might be dull, but dry,
but more rain may fall after 7pm, Compared to
recent days, it is going to be almost cold
with the temperature only reaching 16° C.
Mostly light rain, but with an occasional
heavier shower, is forecast from the first few
minutes of tomorrow, and the first dry period
could be sometime in the late evening. The
temperature will probably be almost the same
as today.
Unless you count generating a
hangover, I only did one productive thing
yesterday. It was to hand wash a double duvet
cover. That took a bit of effort - and it was
not really possible to wring it out
thoroughly. Fortunately it was great drying
weather yesterday, and it went from slightly
dripping when hanging on the line, to bone
dry, and sun warmed in no more than 4 hours.
I had to take particular care when
hanging the duvet cover on the washing line to
avoid damaging any of the three Alliums with
their puffy purple flowers. Once again I had
no real idea of what these were until I had
planted their bulbs, and ultimately they
flowered. Now I know what they are I think I
shall try and plant a lot more for next year,
and because they are over 2ft tall, I'll plant
them nearer the fence rather than in the
middle of the flower bed.
I have to confess I don't really know
what this flower is. I do know that like many
flowers in the back flower bed, any flower has
to push it's way up through a lot of weeds.
I'm only showing this photo because I thought
it came out really well. Some detail is lost
when shrinking it down to use here, but the
detail in the full sized image is rather good.
The main event in the afternoon was a
beer drinking/tasting session with Jodie. It
was boring and fun, although the consequences
were not so much fun. It was boring because
Jodie was trying even harder to pace herself
because she was going to meet her friend Alan
for more boozing in the early evening. Not
only that, but it seems most of the beers in
the fridge were quite strong.
I couldn't seem to slow my drinking
down enough to keep pace with Jodie, and so I
had a few extra beers. Of course they could
only beers that Jodie had tried once before. I
sometimes think that Jodie only ever drinks a
particular beer once only, and I find that a
bit silly. I thought the idea of trying a wide
variety of beers from all over the world is so
you could find some that you wanted to drink
over and over again.
Anyway, I got fairly drunk, and it
wasn't helped by Jodie staying later than
usual because her friend was running behind
schedule, and was further delayed when it was
realised that some train services had bus
replacements during weekend engineering work.
Catford Bridge, for instance, had no trains
yesterday, and Jodie had to get the 54 bus to
get here. It was getting on for 7pm when Jodie
went to get the bus to Bromley where she would
ultimately meet Alan at some point.
Apart from the extra time to get drunk,
7pm was a good time for me because that is now
usually dinner time. I had been looking
forward to the fried chicken I had ordered the
previous night to bulk up my takeaway. It was
indeed very nice. I warmed it up in the
microwave, and ate it with a ready made Tesco
side salad. I bit later I had some corned beef
with chilli sauce on it. I think the latter
was purely because I was drunk, and maybe
because watching one of the Adams Family films
on TV wasn't totally getting my attention.
I have no idea what time that film
finished, but at a guess it might have been
8.30pm. I also have no idea what time I went
to bed. My guess, and it is no more than a
guess, was that it was around 9pm. I feel
certain that I was asleep within minutes of my
head hitting the pillow. The next thing I knew
was that I was waking up with a sticky/gummy
mouth at just gone 1am. As well as the dry
mouth I had a headache - all signs I had over
done it, but it was fun while it lasted !
The rest of my night was fairly rough.
It felt like I was awake more than I was
asleep, but I am choosing to believe that is
an illusion. At least I managed to force
myself to keep on sleeping, some times for
short periods, until I got up very late at
nearly 8am. Oddly enough, I did seem to sleep
solidly for a full hour before finally waking
up, and getting up. The pounding in my head
was just a dull ache by then, although 2 hours
later and it is still a bit sore !
I wondered how all I ate, and some the
the sweeter tasting beers, would affect my
blood glucose reading this morning. I was
expecting the worst, but 8.6mmol/l, while a
bit high, is not too far higher than my
typical average. It just means I want to try
and be a bit more careful about what I eat
today, but that could be difficult.
Today could be a very boring day. Even
though during the course of writing this there
were two very short periods of sunshine,
albeit one being a bit hazy, the general
outlook for today is awful. I think it is not
a day for outdoor pursuits, and definitely not
a day to do any washing. To make matters even
worse I am expecting a delivery from Amazon
today, and while I am really hoping that there
will be a more optimistic prediction later on,
they are really taking the piss with their
initial delivery prediction.......
In an ideal world I will be in bed, and
fast asleep by 10pm tonight ! As always I am
quite excited about a delivery of things, but
really I should only be excited by something
that is exciting - and invariably that would
be something technical/electronic/tools or the
like. Today I am expecting something a bit
boring, but still useful - seat pads. They are
for use on a few chairs that have lost any
softness over the years, although I am not
sure of a couple of ex-telephone exchange
chairs I seemed to have acquired had any
padding to begin with. Oh well, some time in
the next half day they will arrive (it is a
pack of 4), and I will be able to relax. In
the meantime I will have to guard against
feeling bored and hungry.
