There seemed to be
rather less rain than yesterday's forecast
predicted. The first rain fell half an hour or
so before the first predicted rain, and it was
just a light shower. Then it more or less
stayed dry until the evening. The heavy rain
that had been forecast for the middle of the
day fell at 11.30pm, and it was indeed very
heavy. Despite being dryer than forecast, it
was still a dull day, and with a top
temperature of just 16° C it was a rather cool
day.
The weather shown in
the screenshot above got off to a poor start.
Just before 8am, when heavy rain is predicted,
there was actually 15 or minutes of bright
sunny spells. Admittedly the sun was somehow
forcing it's way through a very dull and
cloudy sky. What has happened since could be
described as very quickly, very light, passing
showers. The latest revision of the forecast
correctly says there are very dark clouds
overhead at the moment, but soon that will
give way to lighter clouds until 3pm when
there could be some sunny spells. 4, 5 and 7pm
may see some light rain, and then it will
brighten up again. Of course such a change in
the forecast in just one hour suggests it will
probably change a lot more, but I think we
will still be stuck with a top temperature of
16° C. The current prediction for tomorrow can
be simply described as bright morning, dull
middle, with possible showers, and a bright
evening. It could be 18° C for a while in the
afternoon.
For most of yesterday I was
fixated on waiting for a delivery from Amazon.
I know it is very silly behaviour, but I
always let it dominate my whole day. It is
doubly silly when the initial delivery
notification said
arrival by 10pm.
It was pretty obvious that I didn't need to
start to worry about it until at least some
time in the afternoon. In one respect there
was no need to get excited about it at all. It
was nothing new and wonderful being delivered,
just a top up of stuff I already have. It
finally arrived at about 6.15pm.
I was also hoping for another delivery
yesterday. In fact I expected it to arrive
with the other until I noticed it had got lost
in transit. When I checked at about 6pm the
earlier information saying it had been lost
had been changed to "package delayed in
transit". I took the bit of screenshot on the
left this morning, and it said my package,
containing seat pads, had left Merseyside just
after midnight. If it then was taken non stop
to Dartford it could have arrived by 6am
(maybe) and
in theory, it could still
go out for delivery today. I shall be looking
for updates soon.
Just checked: My package arrived at
Dartford at 8.29am, and because the lazy
buggers rarely leave the depot until 11am or
even midday, it is possible it could be
delivered much later this afternoon/mid
evening. I have one more package on it's way,
and that is coming via Royal Mail. That could
turn up any time today, and even if it turns
up when I am out today, or tomorrow, fetching
it from the sorting office is easy.
There is not a lot to say about the
rest of yesterday. I would have liked to have
done some laundry, but the weather was
definitely not washing drying friendly ! There
was other stuff I could have found to do, like
getting the hoover out, for instance, but the
grey sky left me feeling depressed and just
not interested. It was a day when many would
turn to daytime TV, but I was not
that
depressed. If I had been, and had turned on
the TV I would probably have slit my wrists
after half an hour of daytime TV dross.
I used up most of the day just reading,
and a larger proportion of it was on the
internet. Ideally I would have liked to spend
some quality time reading a book, but every
time I started that I soon found my eyes
closing, and the temptation to have a snooze.
I gave into that temptation more than once,
although I probably didn't snooze for more
than 20 minutes (and possibly even less).
On such a day it would be easy to eat
far too much. For a while I did have a strong
desire to eat. If I had some of that nice
sourdough Polish bread, one of several types
that have no added sugar, I could have made
quite a few big thick sandwiches. Fortunately
I didn't have any bread here. I did have a
very late breakfast of a couple of fish
squares. They were a bit like Aldi's own fish
burgers, but the ones I had yesterday, made by
Youngs, had a traditional batter on them that
almost puffed up when oven cooked.
It only seemed to be a couple of hours
later when I wanted to eat again. It was not
warm, and it was definitely a wintry grey
outside, and I fancied a soup. I had a can of
lentil and smoked bacon soup. It was not the
very low sugar version, but a slightly higher
sugar version by a famous soup maker - Cross
And Blackwell. Despite being "branded", and
hence slightly more expensive, I don't rate it
that highly. However, it went down so well
that I then opened a can of Heinz beef broth.
It is another soup that has a low, but not
that low amount of sugar in it (although I
guess it is very low by Heinz usual
standards).
I don't know how or why, but that soup
stopped me feeling hungry until dinner time at
7pm. Dinner was flame grilled chicken chunks
with mixed salad leaves doused in an excess of
mayonnaise. After a few mouthfuls I sprinkled
on some hot pepper sauce to liven it up a bit.
It was nice, but somehow insubstantial. I
resisted having any more for about an hour
when I had a small amount of cheese to nibble
- the first cheese I had eaten all day.
The only other different thing that
passed my lips yesterday was 2 pints of cider.
The last time I had cider was a few weeks back
when Jodie suggested we might have a cider
session instead of beer. I think we only
opened 2 bottles of cider, and one was
revolting, and the other was close to it.
Yesterday I had two bottles of basic cider
brewed by Aspalls. One was described as medium
dry, and the other as dry. I almost enjoyed
the medium dry, but the dry was less
enjoyable. In fact I struggled with the last
few mouthfuls. It had a sort of tartness that
made the mouth water in the same way that an
approaching vomit does. Of course I didn't
vomit, but the sensation was not nice.
I stayed up late watching TV last
night. I watched an edition of Have I Got News
For You on Dave, and then quickly turned to
BBC2 as the credits started to roll to catch
the last 45 minutes of a QIXL. That must have
finished by 10.30pm, and I went straight to
bed after turning the TV off. I read for as
little as 10 minutes before going to sleep.
Compared to the previous two nights, I had an
excellent sleep, although the dream(s) I had
in the last hour featured people I really
didn't want to see in either dreams or real
life.
I think I was sure I had forgotten
something I ate yesterday - something that
would do something bad to my blood glucose
reading. Evidently I had remembered what I had
eaten correctly, and I had somehow chosen it
correctly, because this morning my blood
glucose was a rather marvellous 7.3mmol/l -
under my self set target of 7.5mmol/l. Somehow
I also feel half good this morning (after
ignoring the usuals).
At this point in time I only have one
plan for today. It is to go and get a bit of
shopping in Tesco. I need Diet Coke, more
salad leaves, and something to go with those
salad leaves, plus something very nice, but
still fairly safe. I have no idea what could
be nice and safe at the same time. I'll just
have to keep my eyes open for something. I
can't imagine going out to do anything
recreational on a grey day like today will
probably be....Actually, the latest revision
to the forecast has added a few sunny spells,
and also quite a few hours that look like
sunny spell icons, but they have a drip of
rain coming from them. However, all those
possible light showers are only shown as
having a 30% chance of happening. Maybe today
will be mostly dry, and mostly bright, but on
the other hand it does seem that the
forecasters are drawing weather icons from a
hat once an hour, and sticking them at random.
Anything could happen today. Part of the
"anything" could be my parcel delivery, and so
I have to be in and alert for that !
