Both the BBC and the
Met Office (screenshot above) agree that it
will rain this morning, but the BBC only shows
a 25% or less chance for only a couple of
hours while the Met Office give a 90% chance
of heavy rain for four hours. Both agree that
this afternoon should feature sunny spells,
and the temperature may reach 21° C. Tomorrow
may be cooler with an afternoon high of only
19° C, and the afternoon is likely to feature
rain.
Yesterday was a pleasant day, but
not always that exciting. I had had a very bad
night, and I took advantage of Patricia going
out shopping for a few hours to try and have a
long snooze. I think I did get 15 minutes or
so of sleep, or maybe it was just a very long
blink ! The curious thing is that I never
really did feel tired for most of the day.
At lunchtime we went out to the Catford
Wetherspoons for a drink and lunch. Patricia
had a some sort of battered chicken lumps, and
I opted for the 4oz burger. I have to say it
was quite pleasant. I even approved of the
chips. They were more chip shop style than the
dreaded "fries", and for me the quite small
portion was good. We had just one drink with
our meal. I think Patricia had just orange
juice, and I had a single pint of Guinness.
It is typical that whenever Patricia
stays here she continues to work. Yesterday
afternoon she had a live interpreting job to
do via some sort of internet connection in the
afternoon. She shut herself in her room for
about three hours, and once again I tried to
snooze. And once again I might have managed a
few minutes of sleep, but nothing significant.
I ended up catching up with some of the
technology news stories from
theregister.co.uk,
and some of the funny stuff from websites like
https://www.thedailymash.co.uk/.
At about 6pm we sat at the dining room
table and watched a bit of the BBC News at 6,
but it was sort of boring. I replaced it with
some Billy Connolly. He is one of Patricia's
comedy heroes, and it soon had her laughing -
even without the hemp from the large
pre-dinner G & T I had poured for her. I
cooked (microwaved !) a beef lasagne for her,
with a side salad, and I had a very simple
dinner of a small pot of coleslaw heaped with
chunks of Red Leicester cheese. I thought I
would have to take it easy after the burger
and chips I had for lunch.
After chatting for another hour or more
we headed upstairs. Patricia had phone calls
to make to her sister and probably to her
partner in Italy, and maybe to others. I
watched more TV on my PC. Patricia turned in
at about 9pm, and I went to bed a bit closer
to 10pm after watching QI on TV. After my
terrible sleep the night before, I took both
Paracetamol, and Ibuprofen before going to
bed. One or both worked, and on the whole I
got a good night's sleep last night, although
it had one sort of oddity. I have no way of
telling if it was just the way I think I
remember it, or if I seemed to have loads of
very short, very disjointed dreams. It feels
like none lasted for more than a minute,
although one set did have a sort of common
theme of getting a train from, I think,
Waterloo. About the only comment I can make
about those brief dreams is that what may have
been the last dream of the series had
Portsmouth on the Kent coast, and as such it
should have been served by a SouthEastern
train. In the dream it was definitely a South
West Trains station !
This morning I woke up earlier than
expected, about 6am, and tried to go back to
sleep again. I think I managed 2 minutes of
sleep, but got up at 6.30am. That is not
particularly early, but I didn't want to
disturb Patricia's sleep. I tried to quietly
do my usual routine of taking my medications,
and putting the late afternoon dose in a glass
ready to be taken at (usually) about 4pm. As
usual I took my blood glucose reading. My new
test strips probably won't arrive until
tomorrow at the earliest, and so I had to use
the out of date test strips for my old meter.
I am not sure how well I can trust
those old test strips, but yesterday the
reading was 8.7mmol/l. I thought that it was
possibly a bit higher expected, but it
wouldn't be the first time I had ended up with
a higher reading than expected. This morning
the reading was 8.4mmol/l, and that was less
than I expected after eating the burger and
chips at lunchtime. Oh well, it's swings and
roundabouts.
After feeding the birds I made my
breakfast, and Patricia's. She had just a
sweet milky, Turkish delight flavour coffee
with Jaffa cakes, and I had a bowl of curry
flavour instant noodles. I expected the curry
flavour to be crap, but it was almost nice -
maybe because it didn't really taste of curry
- either the genuine article, or supermarket
style curry.
Since then I've done very little (apart
from typing a lot of this), but Patricia has
washed her hair, had a shower, got dressed,
and left to get the 9.04 train to London
Bridge. I don't know when I'll be seeing her
again, but there is a fair chance that it will
be before the end of the year. Like a bird,
she will probably fly south (to Argentina) for
the winter, but she will be back to Italy,
where she now has a permanent flat, probably
in the spring. To me who feels like an hour on
a train is very wearying, she, being a member
of the jet set, thinks nothing of the half
hour flight between Italy and London. I guess
after long transatlantic flights it is rather
insignificant.
The next thing I have to do is to have
a good shower and wash my hair so I am ready
for a walk in the park to meet Angela at
lunchtime. As yet the forecast rain has not
started, and I am hoping that if it is going
to rain it will all be over, and the sun will
be out as I walk through the park. After a
couple of pints of Guinness, and a hopefully
very pleasant hour with Angela, I can be as
lazy as I want this afternoon, although I do
have a few "toys" I got from Amazon yesterday
that need "playing with".
