I have a suspicion
that today may be a lot like yesterday. The
morning has started sunny, and the sky looks
clear enough for it to continue for some time
yet. It is forecast to get very dull around
midday, and I wonder if it will rain despite
the forecast only showing a 10% chance for it.
Some of the afternoon may be bright, and the
temperature should hit 20° C this afternoon.
Tomorrow should see 21° C, but it will
probably rain in the morning. The afternoon
should be brighter.
I think I surprised myself
yesterday by not only doing all the cleaning
and polishing I set out to do, but also a
little more. For countless years there had
been many dusty cables hanging on two coat
hooks on the back of the kitchen door. I
decided I would just dump the lot in the
recycling bin because I was never going to
need those cables again (hopefully). I did cut
off, and save one special connector on the end
of one cable. I then scrubbed the back of the
door, and while it would take a coat of new
paint to make it look good, it looks a lot
better than it did.
The other thing I did yesterday was to
go to Tesco where I almost forgot to buy milk
for Patricia's coffee. Fortunately I
remembered it at the last moment. I also
bought a couple of ready meals to feed her. It
is not the healthiest of diets, but I also
bought a couple of ready made side salads so
she had a bit of greenery in her meals.
I still managed to leave a bit of time
to relax, but not that much. It was lucky that
I had finished all my housework earlier than
expected (and more complete too) because
Patricia arrived 2 hours early. Fortunately
she did keep me informed about getting an
earlier train, and didn't arrive by
surprise. It was just after 6pm when she
arrived, and we started off with a couple of
drinks, G & T for Patricia, and lagers for
me, while we gossiped.
I told Patricia that despite it still
being early we couldn't go out because I was
expecting a delivery from Amazon. That suited
her fine because she felt more like relaxing.
At 7pm, a lot earlier than expected, my Amazon
order arrived. It was a couple of electronic
gizmos, but I will wait until Patricia has
gone back to Italy on Wednesday before I get
the chance to play with them.
Just after 7pm we had dinner. Patricia
had a Tesco "butter chicken curry" with a
salad salad. I had ham, cheese and
lettuce. As is often the case, Patricia had
plenty more to talk about, and we chatted and
drank until almost 10pm before we went to our
beds. I think She slept mostly OK, but I
didn't. Maybe it was because I had done a lot
of physical exercise as part of my house
cleaning, or maybe it was just sods law, but I
had a wide variety of aches that kept me
awake.
I was also having trouble with the
temperature. It was a cool night, but my
bedroom didn't get quite cool enough to make
the duvet essential, but it was cool enough
that it was on the edge of uncomfortable to
sleep completely uncovered. That, and the
aches and pains kept me awake until almost
midnight. Even when I did fall asleep I only
slept for about an hour. I took a couple of
Ibuprofen tablets before I tried for sleep
again, and maybe they helped a little. I may
have slept until 3am before I woke up again.
The birds were singing outside, the sky was
already a sort of pale grey, and it felt like
the start of the day was getting quite close.
That was when I took a couple of
Paracetamol tablets to see if they would get
me feeling good enough to get some deeper
sleep. They may have helped, but by 6am it
felt like I would just have to get up,
although on reflection I think it was actually
closer to 6.30am when I got up and started
creeping around the house. The birds got a
very early breakfast this morning, and that
attracted a brief visit from a blue tit - at
least I think it was a blue tit.
I am sure I mentioned yesterday that I
had run out of test strips for my blood
glucose meter. I do have a few well past their
use by date, test strips for my old blood
glucose meter, and I had to use that this
morning. I expect the reading I got was in the
right area even if it wasn't exact. The
reading I got was 8.7mmol/l - a bit higher
than I would have hoped, but maybe some of the
beer I drank yesterday may have raised it a
bit. I don't think I ate anything in
particular that was bad for me, although I can
really remember what I had for lunch.
I'm not really sure what I am doing
today. Patricia needs to go out hunting for a
USB-C power supply that is man enough to
charge her Samsung laptop. An ordinary mobile
phone charger does charge the laptop, but does
it incredibly slowly. It took the charge from
about 68% to 90% after being left on
overnight. I don't think I will go with her,
and maybe I'll manage to have a snooze. We may
go out for a Wetherspoons lunch, but beyond
that it will be a case of making it up as we
go along.
