Like yesterday, the
BBC weather forecast is far more generous of
it's sunny spells than the Met Office. Their
latest revision now shows sunny spells from
9am to 1pm, and then at 6pm. The only fly in
the ointment is that the clouds seem to thick
to let any sunshine through for several hours.
Curiously enough, this is what the BBC
forecast now says - the first sunny spells at
11am, and then continuing until sunset.
Another reason for hoping the BBC may be right
today is that predict an afternoon high of 19°
C. The Met Office says 18° C. Tomorrow could
start several degrees less cold than this
morning, maybe around 15° C, but may only rise
to 18° C. Both forecasters currently agree
that tomorrow is going to be dull all day, but
like today, it should stay dry.
Yesterday was a much more productive
day than the day before. It was partly due to
the nicer weather, but mostly due to the fact
that stuff needed to be done, and that was
because it was also a beer tasting day. As I
wrote yesterday, I had left a big buck of
clothes soaking in stone cold detergent for 24
hours (although it started as warm). Top
priority was the finish that washing, and free
up the bath tub so I could have a shower.
It might have been possible to dry
those clothes on the washing line, and I feel
fairly sure it probably would have been fine,
but I deliberately only did a small amount of
things so I could dry them on the clothes
horse with the fan on it. One novelty
yesterday as that by the afternoon it was
feeling mild enough to open the front room,
and back room windows for a bit of movement of
air. That speeded up the dry, but not enough
to get everything completely dry by the
evening.
The other big chore I got out of the
way was to clear the kitchen sink, and
surrounds, of quite a bit of washing up. It
included the glasses we would be drinking out
of a bit later in the afternoon. To speed
things up a bit I turned the temperature up on
the water heater, but I had to turn it back
down a bit for my (late) morning shower. While
in the kitchen I made a start on preparing
last night's, and tonight's, dinners. Both
featured meatballs in thin gravy. Tonight's
dinner also includes some curry powder.
Eventually all was ready for Jodie's
arrival. On this occasion she was almost spot
on time - 3.28pm instead of 3.30pm ! We got
through a fair selection of beers, but many of
them were Jodie had brought from home, and she
has developed a bad (in my opinion) taste for
fruit sour beers. Some I find OK, but most of
them were not really enjoyable yesterday. We
did have a few others which were nice, but I
don't think anything we had was
really
nice.
While we were drinking I put the last
touches to my dinner. It involved adding some
broccoli. Jodie left here at about 7.50pm, and
so I had my dinner as soon as she left. It was
a generally healthy meal - although that
statement is biassed to my personal needs,
which basically means it had a very low sugar
content. Most of what I ate yesterday was also
low in the sugar department, although I had
doubts about the Singapore fried rice I had
for lunch. It was the last leftover from my
Chinese takeaway the night before.
I watched a bit of TV last night, but
some was in the form of old recordings.
Probably less than 20 minutes after I finished
my dinner, which was smaller than it looked
once a lot of the gravy was drained away, I
got peckish again. It was the sort of
situation where I would have had a cigarette
in the past, but last night I had 4 rice cakes
with ham and cheese on them. The last thing I
watched on TV was QI. On a Sunday it is on
Dave between 8 and 9pm, and so I was in bed
earlier than on a weekday.
I may not have needed it, but I took
the precaution of taking a couple of
paracetamol half an hour before going to bed.
It is difficult to know if it helped my sleep
better or not. If any useful affect was still
working 6 or so hours later, then maybe it did
help. I did wake up once feeling too hot, and
as usual partly pushed the duvet to the side.
I fell asleep, and slept for about 2 hours
like that. I woke up feeling rather cold, but
didn't seem to suffer from stiff joints as a
result. On the other hand it was not a
very
cold night.
When I try and remember the dreams I am
sure I had I keep bringing up snapshots that I
feel sure were from the night before. I do
have a niggling feeling that I specifically
wanted to describe one dream, but whatever it
was seems to have evaporated along with my
sleep.
I think the thing I was most worried
about, the Singapore rice, was actually quite
safe - maybe only because it was eaten at
lunch time. This morning my blood glucose was
down to a rather wonderful 7.9mmol/l. It is
one of life's mysteries how I can get low
readings without even really trying some
times, and high readings when I thought I had
been extra careful. It seems very likely that
there is a mechanism in play beyond what I
eat. I know that illness makes my blood
glucose go higher, but sometime there is no
obvious illness. I guess it is probably some
hidden killer. I just hope that I can read to
the post mortem from the afterlife so I don't
go through eternity pissed off not knowing
what killed me.
The Chinese takeaway I got 2 nights ago
was really rather expensive, but it was nice,
and seemed to be safe to eat as an occasional
treat. I don't fancy paying all the extra of
ordering it via Just Eat. I could order direct
from the takeaway - as I used to once upon a
time. It is a shame that "Very Nice" is not on
the high street because I I could try and
force myself to actually collect it myself on
foot. I ought to investigate what I can get
less than 10 minutes walk away.
I don't think I'd like to go out and
collect any food this morning because I don't
feel that good. It is hard to describe what I
feel, but I am sure it doesn't help that I
feel cold. It is probably a good reason to put
some heating on, but I still want to resist
that for as long as possible. At the moment I
an hanging on to the dream that the sun will
finally break through the clouds. The BBC are
still sticking to the idea that the sunny
spells will start at 11am in the latest
revision. The Met Office say the sunny spells
should start before, or by 10am, but with 26
minutes to go, that seems unlikely.
On the assumption that there will be
sunny spells starting some time this
afternoon, and continue for a few hours into
the afternoon, I think I will try and convince
myself to go out and stretch my legs. I'm
thinking of a bit of train spotting - possibly
ending up at Cockfosters on the Piccadilly
line. It is one of the stations I need to
visit on my Freedom Pass quest to visit all
the extremes of free travel on it.
