This morning it
seems very cold, but not cold enough for a
frost. It was 5° C at 7am, and it will only be
a couple of degrees higher in the early
afternoon. Just 9° C is expected. The only
good news about today's weather is the latest
revision showing it won't start to rain until
11am. There will then be 4 hours of heavy rain
followed by one of light rain. It will end up
clear tonight, and that could give another
chance of frost this morning, but apparently
it won't go below 5° C. It is going to be a
dull, but dry, even colder day with only 8° C
expected in the afternoon.
It had it's rewards, but yesterday was
a dreadful day on account of me feeling so
ill. There were times when I wondered if
another heart attack was brewing, but an
aching chest was just one of very many places
to ache. Probably many of my joints ached, but
oddly I had no upper or lower back pain.
Keeping warm, and several large vodka and
Cokes in the late afternoon helped to loosen
some stiff joints.
Any idea of going out to see the
Orpington Xmas lights live stages was a
definite no, although some painkillers and
sunshine, nearly enticed me out. The final
reason to stay in was because I had so much
photography work to do. I had taken 270 snaps
in total at the Liz Vass memorial gig on
Saturday, and I worked steadily through almost
the whole day to select the best to edit for
"publication". In practice that meant
uploading to social media. All the heaps of
"likes" made the whole thing worthwhile.
I did take some time away from those
photos to go through my archives to find old
pictures of Liz Vass who died of breast cancer
a year or two ago. I found about a dozen to
use. The earliest was from 2010. Some of those
old pictures, with a bit of careful editing
looked quite good. That sort of surprised me
because my earliest digital cameras were far
from versatile.
There were some pictures I took that
were a little strange, or at least I wish I
had taken them a bit differently. This crane
shot (holding the camera as high as possible,
and hoping I was pointing it in the right
direction) would have been better if I had
been standing more central to the band, but at
least I got all four member of the band in,
and none had their faces obscured by
microphones. It's a shame that John, the
drummer was looking the wrong way !
This would have been better if Cath, on
the left, and Jo, on the right, had been
standing closer to each other. I don't know
what it was they were singing together, maybe
something gospel inspired, but I didn't care
for it. That was a shame because Cath was a
striking woman, and I loved the jacket she was
wearing.
Unfortunately it was John Bull who got
the cuddle with Cath after I introduced him as
the man who does the famous Rockrpix
photographs.
These are The Dirty Perks. The bass
player on the right is Joanna Prosser, nee
Vass - Liz Vass' daughter. I suspect it was a
collaboration between her, and Jo Corteen that
arranged the memorial gig (which followed a
church memoriam service in a local church).
The thing about The Dirty Perks is that they
are very good, very professional, and somehow
I can't really enjoy what they do. It is a mix
of some covers of things like Beatles classic,
and some of their own stuff.
Another crane shot, and this time I got
the shot at about the right angle to spread
then band equally across the picture. It was
cropped from a picture taken with my fisheye
lens. That lens, which was quite an expensive
purchase (£290), proved to be quite useful,
although I never used the full picture. The
band is Jamie And The Jets. It is one of
several bands that Jamie Bull is in, and this
one is an Elton John tribute band. The only
trouble is that, in my opinion, Jamie is not
good at singing Elton John songs. I prefer him
when belting out heavy rock songs.
It was quite late when I finished all
my photo editing, and uploading the photo
albums to social media. With that done it gave
me more time to consider how I felt. I kept my
room warm during the day - warmer than I would
have otherwise, and it did make me feel a bit
better. By then the worst pains had probably
peaked, and they were so widespread that it
seemed highly unlikely that I had any heart
problems.
The time at the bottom right on my
blood pressure meter may still be on BST, but
even so, it is a reminder that I took these
reading earlier than I suggested above, and I
would still have had another couple of photo
albums to edit. 113/68, which I read without
trying too hard to relax, is a pretty typical
figure for me these days (except in the
doctors surgery when it has been almost double
on some old occasions). My doctor said
any systolic pressure under 130 is regarded as
"normal". I think this reading says I had no
heart or circulation problems.
The pulse oximeter reading is horribly
blurred because I fumbled the camera trying to
use it one handed while trying to keep mthe
other hand very still. A blood oxygen level of
97 is very typical, and if I had managed to
take it without dropping the camera, it was
98% for a short while. Apparently 98% is
excellent, and remarkable for an ex heavy
smoker. The blurry pulse measurement of 59 is
slightly less than the blood pressure reading
showed, but is very close to it.
It all meant that later on I could go
to bed with the belief that I was unlikely to
die in the night, and also that maybe, with
the help of some painkillers I could get a
fair night's sleep. I aided that by leaving
the heater on low all night. I did indeed
sleep really well, and I think I got up less
times for a pee. I had some entertaining
dreams - mostly about trains, and it even
featured an erotic moment somehow.
My eating was a bit strange yesterday.
I nearly mad it through the day without a hot
meal (apart from the instant noodles for
breakfast). For lunch I just had 4 Marmite
rice cakes with corned beef on them. I had 4
more rice cakes with cheese on them for what I
thought would be my dinner, but at the last
moment I decided to have a hot can of chunky
vegetables and beef soup for an extra boost of
heat before I went to bed. That seemed to work
without overheating me while I was in bed.
Having started yesterday with a high
blood glucose reading, I was wondering how
much that late night soup would do to my blood
glucose reading this morning. I needn't have
worried, it was a very average 8.5mmol/l. To
celebrate, and to warm me up a bit, I had two
lots of instant noodles this morning.
It seems to be a very murky morning,
and will probably be a very murky day with
added rain in, or even before the afternoon. I
think that rules out going out today, and even
more so as I continue to recover from my aches
and pains. So I shall stay in, and maybe I'll
get back to that laptop that I was given last
week. My latest theory is that the power
button does not actually work, and maybe is
stuck in the on position. Getting to it could
be a major headache, and replacing it, if I
can find it, and it is faulty, could be very
tricky. While I have the laptop dismantled I
will check out the inbuilt camera. It seems to
have one, or at least the lens of one, but it
is not reporting to the operating system.
While very unlikely, the real fault could be
the camera plugged into the power button
socket, and the power button plugged into the
camera socket !
