This morning was only
a degree or two away from a frost ! At
approximately 5am I am sure I saw it was just
4° C outside. It should warm up to as much as
10° C, but the chances of seeing the sun seem
slim. In the latest revision the sunny spells
shown for 11am above have been moved to 9am.
That is only 20 minutes away, and in my
opinion the chances of the sun breaking
through the dull grey clouds seems very slim.
Maybe it could happen later, but it still
seems unlikely. Tonight it will probably rain
- a lot ! The latest revision has done away
with light rain at 5pm (as shown above) and
dives straight into the heavy rain at 6pm. It
seems likely the heavy rain will continue
through tomorrow. The only consolation, for
what it's worth, is that the temperature may
reach 11° C.
I would have thought it the other
way round, but yesterday was a duller day then
the day before. I suppose it was because I had
no temptation to go out for a walk, or even to
do some shopping - I think some shops were
open yesterday. Maybe yesterday was a slightly
more productive day than the day before, but
it all depends on what metrics you use to
evaluate it.
Having a shower, and also washing my
hair was a definite improvement over the day
before when I didn't wash at all. After I had
finished with the bathtub for my shower and
washing my hair, I used it to start some
laundry in my two big builders buckets. It was
some time before I got around to finishing the
job. Initially I just left the stuff soaking
in detergent.
One problem of days like yesterday is
that there are few external cues to remind me
of the time. The few cues were times when I
would eat. Even then, I can't say if it was
midday or 1pm when I had my lunch. It was a
very big lunch ! Superficially it was another
lunch of cheese on toast, but instead of toast
I used the naan bread from my Xmas eve Indian
takeaway order. I layered on a couple of thin
slices of corned beef, and then cheese. A few
squirts of low sugar tomato sauce was the
final flourish before I microwaved it long
enough for the cheese to start bubbling.
It was very tasty, but it also seemed
very filling. I felt quite stuffed after
eating it, and it was at least an hour or two
before I forced myself to go back to my
laundry, and go through the rinses and fabric
conditioner. It consisted of just one t-shirt,
and two pairs of underpants, plus a hand
towel. I hung it on the clothes horse in the
dining room to dry with the fan heater on low
blowing warm air at it.
It was convenient to have some heating
on in the dining room because I was spending
short periods of time in there as I continued
my quest to rip all 133 (I think) episodes of
Futurama, spread over 8 series, from the huge
DVD box set to mp4 files. As of this morning I
was about halfway through series three, and
there are eight series in all. This job is
going to take several more days ! Once it is
all done I can start binge watching loads of
episodes. Maybe next Sunday will be typically
boring, and a good time to start.
There was one other possibly important
thing I did yesterday, and it was to design
some new icons for use on these web pages in
2023. I already had a mental idea of the style
of the new icons, but they didn't turn out
quite how I imagined them. It is possible I
will have another go before the new year
starts, but if not I have new yellow icons for
each month, and the other ones I use. I
thought yellow would make a change to purple,
although I don't know why.
The final big thing yesterday was
dinner. Once again it was left over Indian
takeaway. At this point I am relying on the
food being sealed into the foil containers
while scalding hot. That should/could stop any
bacteria spoiling the food for a while. I had
that "while" includes today because after last
nights dinner there is still enough for one
more dinner tonight. Looking at it like that
it doesn't seem quite so expensive, but I
guess each dinner would still cost roughly
£10.
There were a couple of episodes of Star
Trek on early yesterday evening, and a bit
later there was an episode of QIXL. That was
sufficient TV viewing before I headed for bed.
One thing I am forgetting at this point is
that while watching TV I had several beers.
Two of them were very strong, and sweet
tasting Porters......err, no, one was a 11%
Barley Wine ! I can't say I felt even slightly
tipsy after about 4 bottles of beer, but each
bottle was only approximately half a pint.
I spent a fair bit of time reading in
bed last night. I am still ploughing on
through Edmond Cooper's "Seed Of Light". As I
think I mentioned yesterday it is very turgid,
and nothing like his later books. They were a
lot lighter, and had a lot more dialogue to
explain things, rather than paragraph after
paragraph of descriptions. I think I would
only recommend reading it as a sort of
completion to reading all his novels.
I feel sure that I won't like the
next book either. I have read it before,
but I have no idea when. I am currently
expecting a few more of his books, along with
quite a few other things, including my new
Senior Railcard, to be delivered by the Royal
Mail. It all depends on what days they are on
strike. Maybe there will be a delivery today,
and maybe another book or two will drop
through my letter box. If so then I feel I
ought to read the book I already have even if
I don't like it, before reading the new
book(s).
I left the heater on low last night. It
was because the weather forecast was
predicting the temperature to plunge during
the night - and it did. It did mean that I
felt too warm in the first hours of sleep.
That was one reason why I had difficulty
getting to sleep again. Others were from the
usual selections of aches and pains. There was
one other additional discomfort. It all goes
back to my stodgy lunch. I still felt a bit
stuffed many hours later, and I was also
passing a lot of curry flavoured wind during
the night.
Any attempt at going to the toilet,
beyond the usual visits for a pee, came to
nought until this morning when an awful lot
happened to pass ! I am starting to think that
all this Indian food is not only low sugar,
but contains a lot of fibre, and it is a
combination of these two things that are
responsible for another even lower blood
glucose reading this morning. I really
expected that the cheese on naan bread, and
the sweet tasting beers would send my blood
glucose high, and yet this morning it was just
8.1mmol/l. One more drop tomorrow and I will
carry out my threat to eat the cake that has
been in the kitchen cupboard, still sealed in
it's plastic envelope for a year or more. I am
assuming it will still be edible tomorrow if
the chance arises.
It has brightened up a little now, but
the chances of the sun breaking through still
seem very slim. It is not a day that entices
me out further than a local shop. I think I
will be going to the little supermarket on
Catford Bridge to buy some Polish sourdough
bread, some oranges, plus some instant
noodles, and no doubt other stuff that catches
my eye. Back home I will still be spending
some periods of time ripping the Futurama DVD
box set. Other than that, I have no idea what
I will be doing.
