My
Diary/Blog For the Month of December 2022 |

Once the morning rain stopped, yesterday turned out to be a perfectly dull and miserable day ! The only good thing is that the temperature reached 13° C, and if instead of heavy cloud, it had been sunny, it might have felt very nice, but it didn't ! It wasn't supposed to rain
until about now, but it is very wet outside. The
puddles suggest that it has been raining for some
time. It is not due to stop until 7pm, and then a few
hours later it will start again. Today is not going to
be a nice day ! Even the temperature hitting 14° C,
although maybe only for a single hour, is no
compensation. Tomorrow, the first day of the new year,
may feature a couple of hours of sunny spells, but
there will still be times when it rains, and it will
also be cooler than today. Just 11° C is currently
predicted.
I had two aims for yesterday. One was something that would be sort of nice to do, but really only in better weather. I didn't do that one, but I did do the other one. The other was yet another quick(ish) shopping trip. That turned out to be very satisfactory, although far from exciting. Read about my lack of excitement for most, but not all of yesterday, last night, and the start of this morning in my complete archived page for today. |

Yesterday's sunny spells were mostly rather wishy washy, but at least the day was dry. It was also rather cool. The highest temperature I am aware of was just 9° C. This morning has certainly
started off rather dull and wet, but I think there
have only been a few short bursts of heavy rain.
Mostly it was moderately light rain. It is slightly
odd that the latest revision to the forecast shows no
changes to that shown in the screenshot above - except
that the latest revision starts at 10am. The
temperature should rise to an almost, but not quite
warm 13° C (it would be warm in sunshine), and once
the rain fizzles out at 11am, the rest of the day will
feature white cloud. Hopefully it will make it seem a
bit more like daylight than the twilight at the
moment. Tomorrow is looking like it could be very wet,
but at least it should be 13° C.
Once again, yesterday was not like I thought it might be. After my unstable guts the morning before, I was sort of fit and healthy (using a very broad definition of healthy), and in theory I could have done more than I actually did. There was one fly in the ointment that put paid to any hopes of outdoor activities. In the end that didn't matter because the hoped for sunny spells seemed mostly underwhelming. My whole day is described in light detail, along with my night, and my thoughts and stuff so far this morning, in my complete archived page for today. |

Yesterday's was not quite as wet as forecast, but it was still unacceptably wet ! As far as I could tell from indoors, there was very little heavy rain. It was probably better described as persistent rain. It seemed to fizzle out around 1pm, and to my surprise there were a few sunny spells in the afternoon, although it was rather watery sunshine. The temperature probably did peak at 12° C, although it was not really noticeable. The latest revision to the
forecast has changed it a fair bit compared to the
early version in the screenshot above. The most
obvious change is that the hail forecast for 1pm is
now shown as dry, but dull. The sun has just about
broken through now, and the latest revision shows
sunny spells for 10am, 11am, midday, and 2pm. 3pm is
shown as just a 30% chance of rain, and my guess is
that it will be another hours of sunny spells. It is
not going to be a warm day - just 9° C is forecast.
Tomorrow may reach 12° C, but it is going to come at
the cost of a very wet morning, and possibly more rain
after that.
Yesterday did not turn out as expected, and for one time that was sad, but there were compensations, and I could possibly argue that overall, yesterday was a pleasant day. I wouldn't go further than "pleasant" though. The big disruptor of my plans was a volatile gut. I seemed to visit the toilet too frequently in the morning, and I couldn't be sure it was all over until it was too late to go out to the pub. Various theories about the state of my health, and what I did do yesterday, can be read in my complete archived page for today. It includes my night, and the start of this morning. |

Yesterday's weather forecast was far from accurate. In fact a lot of it was pure nonsense.Various revisions toyed with the idea that there would be some sunny spells at one time or another. In fact there were sunny spells, some long enough to be called "sunny" from about 10am through to perhaps 2pm. A couple of hours later, a little while before sunset, the rain, originally predicted for 5 or 6pm, started. I think the prediction for an afternoon temperature of 10° C was about right. Today is going to start wet,
but it may dry up after 3pm (according to the latest
revision). I haven't been outside to assess it
properly, but I think that the drizzle, originally
forecast for just 7am, continues. Of course the
difference between drizzle and light rain is very
subjective - particularly when viewed from indoors. If
we are lucky it will be 12° C by the time the rain
stops, and it seems it won't drop much in the night.
Tomorrow is could be 9° C at 7am, but then it might
drop to just 8° C. Sunshine and sunny spells, if they
happen between 9am and 2pm, might raise the
temperature back up to 9° C again.
Maybe yesterday was the worst of the previous few days. It was definitely a day when I was close to being very bored, but some of that can be blamed on the book I was reading (Edmond Cooper's " Seed Of Light"). I had to finish it, if only to see what happened at the end, but it was so dull and turgid. I was most happy when I finished it. The rest of my day, which did have a couple of highlights, plus my night, and the start of this morning, are all described in my complete archived page for today. |

It was rather cool outside yesterday, just 7 or 8° C at best. Indoors was rather different for a few hours. There was a lot of sunshine yesterday. Sometimes it was too far round to the east, and sometimes to the west, and sometimes it was hidden behind the school over the road, but it did manage to warm my bedroom up, and for a while the sun was shining onto the end of my bed. Laying down with my feet in the warm sunshine was very nice ! This morning was only a
degree or two away from a frost ! At approximately 5am
I am sure I saw it was just 4° C outside. It should
warm up to as much as 10° C, but the chances of seeing
the sun seem slim. In the latest revision the sunny
spells shown for 11am above have been moved to 9am.
That is only 20 minutes away, and in my opinion the
chances of the sun breaking through the dull grey
clouds seems very slim. Maybe it could happen later,
but it still seems unlikely. Tonight it will probably
rain - a lot ! The latest revision has done away with
light rain at 5pm (as shown above) and dives straight
into the heavy rain at 6pm. It seems likely the heavy
rain will continue through tomorrow. The only
consolation, for what it's worth, is that the
temperature may reach 11° C.
I would have thought it the other way round, but yesterday was a duller day then the day before. I suppose it was because I had no temptation to go out for a walk, or even to do some shopping - I think some shops were open yesterday. Maybe yesterday was a slightly more productive day than the day before, but it all depends on what metrics you use to evaluate it. Read about my entire day, night, and the start of this morning in my complete archived page for today. |

I don't remember it raining as much as the weather forecast predicted yesterday. In fact the afternoon featured some sunny spells. Somehow the almost constant 10° C didn't seem to feel that cold yesterday. The sky has been clear for
some time now, and that has allowed the temperature to
drop to 6° C. I'm not sure it was a degree higher an
hour or two ago. It will soon be gloriously sunny once
the sun has climbed high enough to shine over the
houses to the east, and it should stay sunny all day
long. It will still be cold though, although the
latest revision to the forecast predicts it could
reach 8° C by 2pm. Tomorrow might manage 10° C. There
could be sunny spells in the morning, and rain from
about 6pm.
It seems impossible to say why, but yesterday wasn't bad for a Sunday, and even not bad for a Xmas day. Somehow the day seemed to pass by very painlessly. I think I only did two things of note - one important, and the other almost frivolous. The important was to wash a bath towel. The frivolous was to start ripping a Futurama box set of DVDs. As usual there is more detail about this, plus the rest of my day, night, and this morning in my complete archived page for today. |

The sun did it's best the break through the clouds several times yesterday, and it came close enough to it for some watery sunshine in the middle of the day. There was no noticeable wind, and so 11° C felt mild. Christmas day started dull,
damp and miserable, and it is only going to get worse.
The latest revision to the forecast predicts 3 hours
of light rain starting at 11am. The sky may be
brighter, but still cloudy during the last hour before
sunset, and then more rain might follow starting at
6pm. Some of it could be heavy rain. The latest
revision says it will now be a constant 10° C from
11am until midnight, and maybe beyond. Tomorrow could
be bright and sunny, but rather cold. The predicted
maximum temperature is shown as just 7° C.
If I ignore the hangover I think I can declare that yesterday was a good day. My day followed my prediction I made yesterday morning, although there were a deviations to it. It felt like quite a relaxed morning. I washed my hair, and had a shower, and still had time to waste before I went out. The rest of my day is described in my complete archived page for today. It includes a couple of pictures, and about how I slept and my plans for today. |

Much of yesterday was very wet. There was very heavy rain in the morning. That was followed by a couple of hours break from the rain, and then there were some random showers for the rest of the day. Interestingly, during that break over half the sky turned clear blue, and the sun was doing it's best to shine through some gaps in the clouds. The temperature in the afternoon reached 12° C. As I write this the clouds
are thin enough that the sun is making a valiant
effort to shine through a crack. So far it hasn't
quite made it, but maybe there is hope for later. The
latest revision to the forecast now shows sunny spells
for midday and 3pm. Sadly the temperature hasn't been
revised upwards. It seems that 11° C is the best we
can hope for today. The Met Office's best guess for
tomorrow's weather shows a mostly dry day, but with a
few light showers appearing from late afternoon.
Once again the maximum temperature will be 11° C. The
BBC weather forecast is a bit more gloomy. It thinks
that tomorrow could be moderately wet.
Yesterday morning was so disgustingly dull and so very wet, that I doubted I would be doing anything yesterday, but I still had a shower.....just in case ! It was probably around 11am that the sky seemed a little brighter, and the rain had reduced to a very light shower. I decided to be brave and go and get my shopping from Tesco. What happened next, and for the rest of the day, night, and the start of this morning, is described in my complete archived page for today. |

It was very dull and gloomy yesterday, and on top of that there were a few showers (mostly in the morning). The afternoon temperature rose to 11° C, and that felt chilly with no supporting sunshine. The most recent revision to
the weather forecast brings no joy. In fact it takes a
tiny bit of joy away. After a very dull, and very wet
morning, the latest revision to the forecast has the
last of the rain, by that time just light rain,
finishing at 1pm. Instead of the clouds thinning
enough for sunny spells at 2pm, as shown in the
screenshot above, the clouds will continue to fill the
sky. The only change is that they should be white
cloud instead of filthy grey clouds. The only
compensation, for what it's worth, is that the
afternoon could reach 12° C. Under a bright sky that
might even start to feel "mild". Tomorrow morning
could feature sunny spells, but instead of it getting
a little warmer it will actually be cooler at just 10°
C (but with a possible short blip to 11° C).
I think I am inclined to say yesterday was good, but maybe only on the strength of the events of the afternoon. Last night was definitely bad, but maybe less bad than it seemed at the time. Yesterday morning was neither good or bad. It was sort of very average - mainly because I spent most of the time resting, and recovering from the relapse of the illness I had recently. All this basic explanation is expanded, and a couple of pictures added, in my complete archived page for today. It included one bit of very good news about my blood glucose reading this morning. |

Some bits of yesterday were bright and cheery, but sadly most of the day was a bit dull, and featured a few showers. The temperature was 10° C, but with no supporting sunshine it felt chilly. I was hoping that the latest
revision for today's forecast might be a bit better,
and in a very small way it was. The latest revision
shows only some light rain for 11am, and the rest of
the day as dry - dry, but mostly gloomy. Maybe 11° C
is a very small improvement over yesterday's 10° C,
but I doubt it will be noticeable. Tomorrow may
feature some heavy rain, and once again the
temperature will be 11° C.
Yesterday was one of those typical days that were both good and bad. Maybe the root cause of the bad was the weather - it was worse than expected. I didn't expect it to be that good, but also not too bad. Unfortunately the little bit of good was far outweighed by the bad - rain and gloom ! The good, the bad and the indifferent through the day, and night, are described in my complete archived page for today that also includes some more pictures and about this morning. |

Yesterday had the nicest weather we have had in ages ! It took a little while for the early morning rain to stop, and maybe until 11am before the sun was shining, but from then on the sky was mostly blue, and the sunshine was nice and bright. It was a bit of shame it didn't end up a bit warmer than 11° C, but in the sunshine that didn't feel too bad. Once again the Met Office
have been shuffling around the features of today's
weather. The latest revision says the morning rain
will finish at 9am, but start again at 11am. 11am and
midday could feature heavy rain, but 1pm may be dry,
but rather grey. From 2pm there could be a couple of
hours of sunshine before sunset. The maximum
temperature this afternoon is expected to be just 10°
C. Tomorrow, which yesterday was forecast to be an
awful day, may see 11° C, and mostly dry. There is a
25% chance of rain at 8am, midday, and 3pm. The rest
of the day will be quite dull. Of course, this will
have changed beyond recognition in tomorrow morning's
forecast for the day.
Yesterday was a rather good day with just a couple of mild disappointments. It initially seemed unlikely that the sky would clear, the rain would stop, and the sun would come out, but it did ! From about 11am it turned from a cold, wet and dreary day to a very nice sunny day. I might have had doubts about going out during the morning, but I went through the motions, and I was ready to go out when it was nice outside. The story of my outing is described, with quite a few pictures, in my complete archived page for today, which includes last night and the start of this morning. |

It was nice that most of yesterday was 13° C. It meant using less electricity to heat my bedroom, but with no supporting sunshine it still felt cold outside. In fact it was a bloody miserable day when considered from the point of view of the dull grey light outside, and the rain and puddles. As I write this, somewhat
earlier than recently, I am not sure if the rain has
stopped. It is definitely very grey and miserable
looking, but I suppose I should allow for the fact
that sunrise is still 7 minutes away ! The latest
revision to the forecast says that sunny spells could
start as early as 9am, and from 10am there could be
full sunshine until sunset. The downside is that it
will probably be no more than 11° C today, and as
little as 7° C by 11pm. Tomorrow morning is currently
show as featuring heavy rain, but then, with a bit of
luck, the afternoon may be dry and bright. Much of
tomorrow will be just 9° C, but there could be a brief
blip up to 10° C.
Once again I allowed the dull and miserable weather to suck any enthusiasm out of me. My possible adventure on the trains, most to have a look at The Cart And Horses pub in Stratford, came to nothing. However I did go out to the little supermarket on Catford Bridge where I bought everything I expected to buy. What I bought, and when I ate some of it, and very little else, is described, along with my night and the start of this morning, in my complete archived page for today. |

Yesterday didn't seem as wet as expected. There was a fair bit of rain, but not the continuous heavy downpours shown in the forecast. It was still a very dull day, and most of it was cold, just 2 or 3° C until it warmed up in the evening. The forecast is right with
respect to to this morning starting at 12° C, and
later on we should see 13° C, but it doesn't seem to
be raining as I write this. The wet road outside shows
there has been rain, but it has left few puddles. The
latest revision has moved a few things around, and
that suggests they really have no idea when it will
rain, or when it won't. It seems like there could be a
few dry hours in the afternoon, but otherwise it could
rain almost at random. This mini
On the whole, yesterday was a miserable day. There was a modicum of excitement late in the morning when I went shopping in Tesco. I can't really say I enjoyed it because as expected, it was really rather busy in there. I appreciate far worse is to come, but I still saw people with large shopping trollies full to the brim, blocking up the checkouts. There was more bad news later, and this morning there was good news. All that, and in between, is described in my complete archived page for today. It includes last night and the start of this morning. |

In theory, yesterday was the day of the big thaw, but still the snow lays on the ground today. The temperature did rise to 5° C for a few hours, possibly helped by some bright sunshine, but after those few hours the temperature started to fall again, and by midnight it had gone negative. The early version of today's
weather forecast, as shown above, shows light snow for
10am. The sky does seem to look like it could snow,
but the latest revision to the forecast has changed
snow to rain, and that rain will continue until past
midnight. From 1pm it is likely to be heavy rain, but
the more it rains, the warmer it will get. The day
could end at 10° C. Tomorrow could see the temperature
rise to 13° C, but once again rain will be involved.
Tomorrow morning, and tomorrow evening could feature
light rain. Between the two lots of rain it might be
dry.
There were three notable things that happened yesterday, or maybe four things if you include eating. I spent the whole morning being lazy, apart from when I was writing here. I suppose what I was actually doing was keeping my fingers crossed that the small rise in temperature would be enough to thaw out the frozen drain pipe from my bath. It was, and what happened next, last night, and this morning, is all described in a bit more detail in my complete archived page for today. |

It was another cold but sunny day yesterday. There was sunshine from sunrise until sunset, but the highest temperature was only 1° C, and a lot of day was in negative figures. To call 5° C warm is a rather
desperate measure, but assuming it does reach 5° C
today, it will be the warmest day for some time today.
There should be some sunshine or sunny spells this
morning, and maybe into the afternoon, but the latest
revision to the forecast has changed the time compared
to the screenshot above. I expect the times will
change again, but at the moment the forecast says
sunny spells for 10 and 11am, and full sunshine for
midday and 1pm. After that it will probably be light
grey. Tomorrow may see heavy cloud, and it will be
very wet. Some of the rain will fall when it is just
2° but the forecast says rain, and not sleet - which
might be more probable. During the day the temperature
will rise, and by 11pm it could be 10° C.
I spent almost all of yesterday just resting. I had thought about going out for shopping, but with my bath still 2 or 3 inches full of water, because of the frozen drain pipe, I couldn't have a shower. I had suggested I would probably just have a flannel wash if I needed to go out to the shops, but nothing on my shopping list couldn't wait anther few days if needed. So I spent a lazy day that ended with a Vindaloo. There is more about my day, night, and this morning in my complete archived page for today. |

Yesterday was sunny, but still very cold. After a -4° C the temperature just managed to go positive, but only to 1° C. Clear skies meant the temperature dropped back to zero, and then went negative before midnight. By my reckoning, the
temperature at 7am was just a few tenths of a degree
short of -5° C. My most exposed outside thermometer
says it is still -3° C as I write this. So the
temperature may be lower than the forecast predicted,
but it got the sunshine right. It is gloriously bright
at the moment, but the suns rays seem to carry very
little heat. Like yesterday, the temperature may rise
to 1° C this afternoon, but will soon plunge down to a
possible -3° C by 11pm. Some slightly warmer air will
be blowing in over night. 6am tomorrow could see the
temperature back up to 0° C, and maybe with the help
of more sunshine, the afternoon should reach 5° C.
Two things of note happened yesterday. The first had the more lasting significance. I had a nice warm shower, but the water didn't drain away from the bathtub. My bodged repair of the pipe that takes the waste water from the bath to the soil stack is not straight. It is bowed, and water collecting at the bottom of the bow has frozen solid, and blocked the drain. With the forecast saying there should be quite a thaw tomorrow (5° C expected) I feel patient enough to wait for that. The other notable thing, plus other stuff during the day, night, and this morning are described in my complete archived page for today. |

There were many sunny spells yesterday afternoon, but the sun seemed to carry no warmth. It made a walk through the park look nice, but the air was probably slightly below zero. After being out for several hours I came home to find my bedroom like an ice box. I had turned off the heating, and relied on the sun to keep the room warm - it didn't ! The maximum day time temperature was forecast to be just 1° C, and I reckon that was about right. The forecast for today
started off accurate enough to match reality - almost.
I reckon it was -5° C in my garden this morning. The
forecast says -4° C. To avoid splitting hairs, let's
just say it was/is, and will remain, bloody cold. Even
non stop sunshine from sunrise to sunset won't be able
to lift the temperature above 1° C. By tomorrow
morning the temperature may only fall to -2° C, but in
the middle of tomorrow it may only rise to 0° C.
Tomorrow may see sunshine from midday to sunset.
Yesterday was partly an exciting day. It was the first day I went out further than just to the local shops since coming down to what I will claim to be Covid even though was not that different to other winter colds since time immemorial. Going out was both a trial and a joy. Both the trial and joy are described, along with a few illustrative photos in my complete archived page for today, which also includes some words about my sleep, and the start of this morning. |

There was some cold sunshine yesterday morning, but it was over before the sun had risen high enough to start shining any heat into my front rooms. The morning started off below zero, and so the sun was fighting impossible odds to warm anything up. The afternoon just about made it to 2° C, and for a time the sky was so dull that it seemed like there could have been another fall of snow, but none fell. This early morning version of
the weather forecast (shown above) got off to a bad
start. The next revision correctly showed that this
morning is sunny again. Now if you believe the BBC
weather forecast there will be sunny spells right
through to mid afternoon. The Met Office is a bit more
conservative, and says 11am and midday will be dull,
but sunny spells will resume after, and might keep
going until sunset. Neither forecast gives any hope
for the temperature to go above 1° C today. I think it
is a bit breezy today, and the wind chill could make
that feel much worse ! The sky could be clear
tomorrow, and allow full sunshine from sunrise to
sunset, and maybe the temperature will briefly touch
2° C.
As I suggested I would probably do yesterday morning, I did go shopping in Aldi, and I made a slight detour along the way to post my Xmas cards. I think I had a bit of a relapse yesterday, and while walking to Aldi I could feel my chest and lungs and stuff start to complain. Oddly enough I felt much better walking home laden down with a fair bit of heavy shopping. The rest of my day is described in brief, my dreams in some detail, and this morning as just the facts in my complete archived page for today. |

I think yesterday's weather could simply be described as grey, cold, and miserable. Some of the day was just grey, and other bits very grey. The temperature didn't seem to go over 2° C. The best that can be said was that it was dry. This morning started off
close to -2.0° C, but it has now risen a bit, and
should soon be 0.0° C. The best thing is that if it
turns out to be true, the latest revision to the
forecast says that there will be sunny spells between
9am and 11am. After that the light grey clouds take
over again, and the temperature will have risen to 2°
C - the highest it will be all day. No rain is
expected. Tomorrow should see 3° C, but the sky will
be light grey all day. This coming Sunday, and perhaps
more so the following Monday, will see a heat wave !
Temperatures of as high as 11° C are predicted, but at
the cost of loads of rain.
Yesterday was a day where I seemed to think I was fairly productive, but with hindsight, maybe it was no more productive that recent days. Of course on some of the recent days I went out shopping, but yesterday I stayed in all day, and so my few achievements lose their already tarnished shine - sort of. What I did do, and generally how my day, night, and also this morning, passed by is described in my complete archive page for today. |

There was a lot of uncertainty about yesterday's weather. The mist and maybe fog, lasted a lot longer, almost all daylight hours, than just the few hours shown in the early version of the forecast. The one forecast sunny spell at midday didn't happen. The temperature forecast of a max of 1° C was about right. It was after dark when the forecast could hardly keep up. Originally some light snow was forecast for 11pm, but snow started to fall a bit before 8pm, and then continued, with a few breaks, until gone midnight. Today's forecast brings no
joy. It is going to be cold and grey - sometimes very
grey ! It is quite hard to get excited about the
latest revision to the forecast raising the maximum
temperature to 3° C instead of the 2° C shown earlier.
In the latest revision there is another double yellow
warning of ice, and snow and ice. I feel sure these
are added to the national forecast, and in this case
they probably are redundant to this local area -
although, of course, there is still a lot of snow
laying on the ground, and melting away even as we look
at it. Tomorrow is shown as uniformly light grey, with
a top temperature of 2° C. Like today, the chances of
any precipitation (drizzle/rain/sleet/snow) is
vanishingly low.
I can't say I was completely over my cold yesterday, and not even today, but I was at least 97% over it, and only annoyed by a few twinges now and then. I think today could be similar, and the final cure won't come until we have had a hot sunny day - where hot could be at least 20° C ! However, a lot of yesterday felt good. It was a fairly productive day, and I write about it, plus last night and this morning, in my complete archived page for today. |

It was nice and sunny yesterday, but the sunshine seemed to do nothing to warm outdoors up, and it only helped a little to make my bedroom comfortably warm. I don't think it got any higher than 3° C outside, and it may have only reached the 2° C offered by later revisions to the forecast. Today starts with a double
yellow weather warning - one for fog, and the other
for snow and ice. I think what I've seen this morning
is thicker than mist, but thinner than fog. I've also
seen lots of ice in the form of frost, and also black
ice on the pavement outside (felt, rather than seen),
but the forecast doesn't predict any snow until 11pm
tonight. The latest revision to the forecast now shows
10am as foggy, and light snow from 10pm through to 1am
tomorrow morning, and also possibly at 3am tomorrow
morning. The maximum temperature today could be just
2.0° C, but it may be higher because I don't think it
has started as cold as the forecast says for this
morning. If it does snow tonight it will be falling on
forozen ground, and so it could last a fair while into
tomorrow. Tomorrow is forecast as a very dull day with
a maximum temperature of just 2° C. Of course a
covering of snow will make it look brighter !
Yesterday could probably described as a good day - particularly when compared to the preceding 5 or 6 days. I finished writing earlier than usual yesterday morning, but then wasted the time laying on my bed reading. I think I almost had a snooze. Perhaps I did ! It was certainly getting close to midday before I had a shower, and went out to buy some assorted shopping. Read all about that, plus other stuff done yesterday, last night, and this morning in my complete archived page for today. |

There were a couple of hours of sunny spells yesterday afternoon, but most of yesterday was dull. The temperature reached the forecast 4° C, and may have briefly touched 5° C. Unlike the day before when the frost survived to sunset, the slightly warmer day yesterday melted all the frost before midday. Clear skies in the night allowed the temperature to plummet last night. My most exposed temperature sensor was showing -3.0° C at 8.29am. The latest revision to the forecast has changed 10am to -1.0° C in a sort of admission that they got the earlier temperatures wrong. Fortunately it still shows blue skies and pure sunshine until sunset today. Unfortunately it says the maximum temperature today will now only be 2° C. Tomorrow will be a worse day. Freezing fog is predicted from 5am to 11am, and with no sunshine at all tomorrow, the maximum temperature may be 1° C. There have been a few very advanced forecasts for snow or sleet on the BBC and Met Office forecast web sites, but there are none visible in the days that forecasts are given for (7 days for the Met Office, and 14 days for the BBC). Of course neither manage to come close to an accurate forecast for more than 10 or 12 hours ahead, and so anything forecast for 7 days ahead is just fantasy. To save you having to read the entire page, or click on the link for the complete archived page for today, I can reveal now that yesterday was both good and bad.....but then again the same could be said about most days. The different thing about yesterday was that I felt sure there was some tangible improvement on this lurgy I have been suffering from. The link about does show many more details of my day, nigh, and this morning. |

From just before midday, until a bit before sunset, there were sunny spells, and even full hours of sunshine yesterday. That sunshine did provide a bit of warmth in my south facing bedroom, but the air temperature outside remained stubbornly low - there was still frost on the grass at sunset ! It made for a cold night with the temperature down to -1.0° C at times. The daytime temperature was forecast to be 3° C, but I don't think it went much above 1° C. According to my thermometers
it started to slightly warm up in the early hours of
the morning. By my reckoning it was plus 1° C by 7am
this morning. Right now the frost on the grass is
melting, and while the thermometer nearest the grass
says 1.8° C, a couple of sensors nearer to the house
say 3° C.. It is possible that today's high will still
be at 3pm, after almost 2 hours of sunny spells
(according to the latest revision), and maybe it might
be as high as 5° C. It still means that today is going
to be cold and dry, and very dull until just before
sunset. Tomorrow could be bright and cheerful, or at
least it could be cheerful if the temperature got any
higher than 3° C - which apparently it might not
manage except for exactly one hour - probably at 3pm.
The day to watch out for is the day after tomorrow -
Sunday 11th December. The forecast for that day is
almost certainly going ton change a lot, but which way
? At the moment the prediction if for thick freezing
fog until 9am, and that will be followed by a 50%
chance of light snow at 10am. The maximum temperature
may only be 1° C !
Yesterday was another day of variable fortunes. Like today, and probably most days now until spring arrives, it was not a day to skimp on electricity. Fortunately the sunny afternoon took the strain off the heating in my bedroom, but the dining room needed quite a lot of heating during the afternoon. It was also a day where I might be deluded in saying it, but it felt like I felt better more than I felt ill. Maybe there was not a lot in it, but I still convince myself it was progress. Yesterday, last night, and the start of this morning are described in my complete archived page for today. |

Cold, grey and dry sums up most of yesterday, but it does neglect some sunny spells in the late morning, and early afternoon. There could have been more sunny spells for some people. Sometime around 3pm, or maybe a little earlier, there were some quite small, but very dense clouds to the west. The sides of those clouds were lit up like blindingly bright haloes by the sun. It felt like "an inch to the left" would have given full sunshine for a while. At just 5° C, at best, it was still a very cool day. There have been a few
morning when it has been cold enough to give a little
bit of light frost in a sheltered position, but this
morning it was a widespread deep frost. My thermometer
nearest the garden said it was -1.9° C a little while
ago ! It seems it is going to be a sunny day except at
10am according to the latest revision which also adds
9am as being sunny. All that sunshine may help warm up
my bedroom, but outside the best we can hope for is
just 3° C. Tonight the temperature will fall below
zero again, and tomorrow will peak at 3° C again, but
little sunshine is currently forecast for tomorrow.
When I finished writing yesterday I was undecided about what I would be doing. I wasn't feeling too bad, but then again I wasn't feeling too good either. While I was under the hot water in the shower I momentarily felt quite good, but it didn't last. I was soon coughing again, and decided it would be unfair to go to the pub and cough all over Angela. The day went by slightly boringly until I got a phone call from an old mate who I only tend to speak to every few months. That was one of a few things I did do yesterday, and all are described in greater detail in my complete archived page for today. It includes stuff about my night, and the start of today. |

The sunny spells started a lot earlier, and finished a lot later than was forecast for yesterday. They did nothing to the outside temperature, which remained 7° C, as forecast, but did help warm up my bedroom a little bit. I think that sums up yesterday's weather. The BBC said the day would
start at 2° C. The Met Office said 3° C. The lowest
reading thermometer I could see said it was 4.1° C.
The new and improved forecast has added sunny spells
at 11am and 1pm, but like yesterday I doubt they will
increase the forecast high of 5° C today. This morning
has started off a very dark grey, but the clouds could
turn close to white from midday. It it not going to be
a nice day. Tomorrow will be nice in as much as it
should be a bright sunny day, but it will also be very
cold. The afternoon high may be just 2° C, and the
morning and evening 0° C.
There were bits of yesterday that were good, and bits that were bad. They all hinged around the one significant thing I did yesterday - a shopping trip to Tesco. Prior to that I had a shave, shampoo and shower. That felt good, and indeed was one of the good bits of yesterday. Maybe the rest of my day was not too good. It is all described in my complete archived page for today along with a description of my night, and the start of this morning. |

Yesterday was grey, dreadfully grey. With a maximum temperature of only 8° C, and that for only a short time, it was a very grey, and very cold day. If that looks familiar it is because it was copied and pasted from yesterday with just the maximum temperature changed from the original 6° C to 8° C. This morning has started
with some sunshine - rather earlier than the forecast
admits to. The reason is clear skies, but that brings
it's own sting. The temperature even now has not quite
reached 5° C, and is only just over 4° C. With luck,
sunshine or mostly sunny spells should last until 3pm,
and maybe until sunset. It will make a cold day more
cheerful. The maximum temperature today will only be
7° C, and after today the daytime temperature keeps
dropping. Tomorrow could be a grey day with a maximum
temperature of 5° C. The day after could be sunny, but
only 2° C. The day after that, Friday the 9th, could
also be sunny, but the maximum temperature could be 1°
C with a lot of the day being below zero !
Yesterday was a day when the state of my cold was in flux. It seemed like it was drying up, but sadly that wasn't the case. Mostly it was a day when I did little more than staying warm. Only two things happened, and one of those was preparing and cooking my dinner, plus, of course, eating it ! Maybe today I will do some useful stuff. Yesterday was grey, dreadfully grey. With a maximum temperature of only 6° C, and that for only a short time, it was a very grey, and very cold day. The early forecast did mention some rain at 7am, but I don't I drew the curtains until long after that. The latest revision to the
weather forecast has changed some dark grey clouds to
light grey clouds, but the forecast stays essentially
the same - no sunshine, and a maximum temperature of
8° C - which at least is slightly less cold than
yesterday. Tomorrow may feature some sunshine and
sunny spells, but it will only be 7° C - colder than
today !
Some of yesterday wasn't too bad. I made sure I kept myself warm, and that reduced the symptoms of my cold, or as I now suspect it to be, a viral infection. It could even be Covid, but it is more similar to the common cold, and possibly identical to man 'flu ! It all went wrong by the late evening with both coughing and nose running getting worse. The gruesome, and not gruesome details of my day, night, and the start of this morning are described in my complete archived page for today. |

I can't recall seeing a single glimpse of the sun yesterday. The whole day was just grey, albeit in various shades ! The highest temperature, and only for maybe 2 hours, was 7° C, and 6° C was more representative of the day. The two weather forecasters
I keep an eye on have slightly different views about
today, but neither brings any joy, only sorrow. The
BBC say the temperature will be a constant 5° C all
day, but the afternoon will be a slightly lighter
grey. The Met Office say today will be very grey all
day, but that the morning, and start of the afternoon
will be 6° C before falling to 5° C around 3pm.
Tomorrow will be another very grey day, but for all
the difference it will make, it could be a very chilly
8° C. It seems that by Thursday we will be seeing some
very cold days, and at least sleet is possible in the
not too distant future - maybe even snow (except snow
around Xmas doesn't happen !).
Yesterday was one of those days that was both good and bad. For most of the day it seemed like my illness was 99% over - just an occasional light cough. The warm, but not quite hot shower I had in the morning may have helped - possibly helped a lot. I felt good enough to go to Tesco to get some needed shopping. There was more good stuff, even very good, but also bad stuff happening yesterday, last night, and this morning, and it is all described in my complete archive page for today. |

Most of yesterday was cold, grey, and miserable. There were a couple of treats of brief sunny spells in the afternoon, and while pleasant they brought little cheer, or warmth. At least it was a dry day. The maximum temperature was forecast to be 8° C, and that seemed about right. The latest revision to the
forecast has changed 10am to dark cloud, but other
than that, it remains as shown in the screenshot above
- cold, grey and miserable ! The afternoon high today
will be just 7° C. Tomorrow is shown as completely
dark grey, and with a high of just 5° C.
Yesterday was pretty miserable. Not only was it cold and grey, but being ill was starting to wear me down. On the other hand my illness was changing, and possibly for the better, although it is hard to decide if there is any useful improvement this morning. Maybe an hour after writing that I am starting to feel that maybe I am improving a bit. My whole day, night, and this morning are described in my complete archived page for today. |

It was surprisingly sunny yesterday. Later revisions of the weather forecast did extend the amount of sunny spells, but as I mentioned yesterday, the sun was trying to break though quite early in the morning. The first short sunny spells happened as early as 10am, and soon after it was more like full sunshine some of the time until about 3pm. By then the cloud was re-asserting itself. One notable thing is the sun is so low in the sky now that part of it's transit across the sky is now hidden by the big school across the road. It was certainly nice and warm in my south facing bedroom during the sunshine, and I think it took the outside temperature up to 10 or even 11° C (the original forecast said just 9° C). It was a cold morning, and
the best this afternoon can offer would seem to be
just 8° C. The forecast predicted mist early this
morning. All I saw was a slight haze in the air. The
latest revision says that 2 and 3pm will feature sunny
spells. The rest of the day will be grey and
miserable. Tomorrow is going to be worse than today.
Much of the day will be grey, and quite a few hours
will probably be dark grey. It will also be colder.
The temperature may touch 7° C for just one hour, or
even part of that hour, and most of the afternoon will
be just 6° C.
Yesterday was not a good day. I did feel good enough to pop out for a bit of shopping late in the morning, and while that felt OK, I think it had a very negative effect on me. I guess it could also be possible that it brought things to a head faster, and maybe that was advantageous. My shopping trip was to Poundstretcher, and as usual I went for a few things, and came back with a lot more. The shopping trip probably did me no favours, and you can read about how my illness almost went up a peg after going out in the cold damp air. That, and the rest of my day, night, and this morning are described in my complete archived page for today. |

It was a couple of degrees warmer than the day before, but just 9° C yesterday seemed to feel more chilly. There were a couple of sunny spells as 3pm approached, but they did little to stop a damp, grey day from feeling cold. The forecast for this 1st
day of December almost looks cheerful. The latest
revision has extended the sunny spells from midday
until almost sunset. Curiously enough it has changed
the hours before midday to feature dark clouds instead
of light clouds. When I look out my window I can see
light, and well broken clouds. The sun is still low in
the sky, too low to clear the house roofs to the east,
as I write this, but it looks that once it is a bit
higher we could easily get a sunny spell. This
afternoon the temperature may only reach 9° C, and in
following days there is a distinct downward trend.
Tomorrow may only see 8° C, and with the forecast
predicting no sun, and some hours featuring heavy
looking dark clouds, it could be a most miserable day.
Yesterday features a mix of the good and bad. The worst of the bad was starting off the day with a very high blood glucose reading. It was in the danger area, but I knew why it happened, and could steps to get it lower again. The other bad was that during the morning I realised I was on the first steps of (probably) going down with the common cold. My nose was not running, but stuffy. I was also starting to cough. The progression of my cold, and what I did yesterday, how I slept, and how I feel this morning, is all described in my complete archived page for today. |
