Yesterday's weather forecast was far from accurate. In fact a lot of it was pure nonsense.Various revisions toyed with the idea that there would be some sunny spells at one time or another. In fact there were sunny spells, some long enough to be called "sunny" from about 10am through to perhaps 2pm. A couple of hours later, a little while before sunset, the rain, originally predicted for 5 or 6pm, started. I think the prediction for an afternoon temperature of 10° C was about right.
     wet
Today is going to start wet, but it may dry up after 3pm (according to the latest revision). I haven't been outside to assess it properly, but I think that the drizzle, originally forecast for just 7am, continues. Of course the difference between drizzle and light rain is very subjective - particularly when viewed from indoors. If we are lucky it will be 12° C by the time the rain stops, and it seems it won't drop much in the night. Tomorrow is could be 9° C at 7am, but then it might drop to just 8° C. Sunshine and sunny spells, if they happen between 9am and 2pm, might raise the temperature back up to 9° C again.

Maybe yesterday was the worst of the previous few days. It was definitely a day when I was close to being very bored, but some of that can be blamed on the book I was reading (Edmond Cooper's " Seed Of Light"). I had to finish it, if only to see what happened at the end, but it was so dull and turgid. I was most happy when I finished it.

Not all the day was boring, or at least potentially boring. In the morning I had a shower so I was fresh to face the great British public - not that I saw any except for the lady manning the till at the mini supermarket on Catford Bridge. I went there to buy an assortment of stuff - including a couple of bottles of Heineken Silver - a version of Heineken I have never heard of before.

Among the other stuff I bought were three large oranges, some green chillies, a few packs of Turkish Delight (the type where I can wash all the sugar off them), a loaf of Polish sourdough bread, and some more Polish instant noodles. There was one other thing that I nearly forgot, but reciting all this reminded me of it, and fills a gap in my later narrative. I think that is a complete list of everything I bought - that is how boring life can be !

It felt quite chilly walking to the supermarket, but when walking back home the sun was on my back and I felt very warm. I am not sure why the sun on my front didn't seem to feel warm. It was just after midday when I got home, and once I had put my shopping away I started my lunch. The item I nearly forgot was possibly a Turkish pastry, if such a thing exists. It was a flat parcel of puff pastry poorly filled with almost tasteless cheese. It looked nice, but it soon became stodgy, and only hot chilli sauce livened it up a bit.

Soon after I gave in to having more for lunch, and I ate two of the big oranges I had bought. Unlike more mainstream supermarkets, the oranges were not segregated into different types. The were just "big oranges". One had a thin skin, and the other a thicker skin. I think it was the latter which was a navel orange. Both were nice, but one of them, possibly the thin skinned one, seemed a bit juicier.

It was probably little more than an hour later that I had an extension on my lunch. I guess oranges aren't very filling or something. I opened up the sourdough loaf, and made a cheese and corned beef sandwich that I zapped in the microwave until the cheese was melting. The slices of that loaf were a typical thickness, but the cross sectional area of the loaf is probably just over half that of a typical "Sunblest" loaf, so it was a fairly small snack.

I didn't eat again until dinner time.....err, that is not true because I just remembered I did have about 6 cubes of mint flavoured Turkish delight with all the icing sugar washed off them. I regret buying mint flavoured because it is a lot blander than expected. Maybe I hoped that it might have improved over the last 6 months, or whatever, since I last bought a pack.

I spent a fair proportion of the afternoon laying on my bed reading, and running up and down the stairs as I continued ripping my huge DVD box set of all 133 episodes of Futurama. Last night I left the PC in the dining room ripping the second to last disk of series 4. It is slow progress, but I've nearly hit the halfway mark. As I mentioned further up the page, the book I was reading was very dull, or turgid as I like to call it. The worst thing was that it got denser and denser, and less enjoyable the further I go through the book. Oh well, it's finished now.

For the life of me I can't remember what time I started binge watching Futurama. I only got through 3/4s of series one, but I was interrupted by some Star Trek, and QI on TV. I also had my dinner. It was the final part of the huge Indian takeaway order I made on Xmas eve. I am happy to say it was still in good condition, and enjoyable. It was lamb bhuna main course with a bombay aloo vegetable side dish.

I think the last episode of QI I saw finished at about 8.30pm, and I went to bed soon after that. Initially I read in bed. It was the next Edmond Cooper book in my (imaginary) reading list - "The Lost Continent". Oddly enough I have a vague memory of the last time I read it, and I seem to think I didn't like it, but I'll stick with it to the end because I can't remember any of the plot.

I can only estimate I turned out the light sometime after 9pm, and probably before 10pm. Initially I thought I was going to have a lot of trouble getting to sleep. I was certainly tossing and turning for a while as I tried to find the most comfortable position, but suddenly it was around 1am, and I was waking up for a pee. I seem to think I woke of fewer times in the night for a pee compared to usual.

On the whole I slept unusually well until about 5am when I had about a 30 minute period of insomnia. It wasn't so much as not being able to sleep, and more the feeling that I didn't need to sleep any more, although eventually I think I got almost 90 minutes more sleep. I feel I had lots of dreams last night, but as I sit here I can't remember a single thing about them. Maybe that is a sign that I did have a good night's sleep.

I must admit I was hoping that my blood glucose reading was going to be even lower this morning - low enough to trigger a frenzy of eating the cake in the kitchen cupboard that has been waiting for a good excuse for a year or more. Sadly it wasn't quite good enough for that, but 8.1mmol/l, exactly the same as yesterday morning, is cause for some sort of lesser celebration - although I can't think what form it could take.

Today it is going to be wet and miserable until maybe mid afternoon. I still intend to go to the pub as is now my habit on a Wednesday. I don't know if Angela is back at work after Xmas. It is possible she is off until after New Years Day, but I'll let her know I am going, and if she is at work I expect she will join me. If I have the time and inclination I might go to Tesco first.

P.S. I almost forgot. After going to the toilet I dared to weigh myself for the first time in many months this morning. I can't remember if this morning was more or less than last time, but it was just 400gm above my typical weight (perhaps about 1lb). That seems good considering after all I seem to have eaten, and done very little exercise.
