Yesterday's weather was rather disappointing. It seemed like that the afternoon would be fairly sunny, but the sunny spells only lasted until almost 2pm, and the rest of the day was dull. The morning had started off dull and wet ! Apart from some light wind that still added some wind chill, it was a mild day, but I am not sure if there was a peak of 15° C in the afternoon, or if it was 14° C.
     sunny start,
                                  soggy afternoon
It is nice and sunny as I write this, but the early versions of the forecast say it won't last long. The BBC forecast says 9am will see the last sunny spells, but the Met Office are sticking to their prediction of black clouds and heavy rain for 9am. The BBC says light rain for the rest of the day starting at 10am. The Met Office say heavy rain for most of the day, and their latest revision hasn't really changed what is shown in the early screenshot above. Both forecasters agree that that this afternoon, or some of it, will be 13° C. Tomorrow may start sunny again, but both forecasters say it will be bright with light rain for the rest of the day. The temperature will probably be 12° C, but as usual, many changes could be made to the forecasts in the next 24 hours.

Yesterday was another day that was typical in that it was both good and bad in variable proportions. The worst happened just after midnight this morning, but more about that later. Being a Wednesday the highlight of the day was a visit to The Jolly Farmers for a couple of pints of Guinness, the Metro crosswords, and some banter, but it was not a great highlight.

I'm not sure why yesterday morning seemed so slow, although it was actually just me who was so slow. It was almost midday before I had a shower, and I didn't have enough time to wash my hair, or have a shave. In real terms it didn't matter because I wouldn't be seeing Angela. On the other hand it does make me feel nice and fresh if I have done the complete grooming sequence.

On good days I get to Catford Bridge station in time to pick up two copies of The Metro, and get the 12:20 train for the 2 minute ride to Ladywell. Yesterday I was only a little bit late, and caught the 12:34 train. It was nice and sunny as I waited for the train, and it was nice and sunny when I walked from Ladywell station to the pub. I was wearing my thinner black imitation leather jacket, and even with the front open I felt quite hot, and getting sticky by the time I walked into the pub.

I was disappointed to find that Ayse, my favourite barmaid, who always covers the Wednesday shift, was not there. I don't remember, or maybe have never known the name of the older looking lady who was behind the bar yesterday. She is pleasant enough, but only like bar staff should be, but never actually seems friendly. Her great sin was not to check the toilets when she opened up in the morning. The toilet roll dispenser was empty when I went for a pee before leaving.

There was not the usual banter going on in there yesterday - presumably because Ayse was not there to lead or encourage it. It did give me  more time to concentrate on my crosswords, and even to read some of The Metro. The latter was not terribly pleasant, but I guess sometimes some knowledge of current affairs helps you to feel a little less lost in life.
crosswords
This was the best I could do for the crosswords. In the quick crossword I managed to get something for nearly all but two clues. One I just made a mess off, but I think I was close. There could have been a mistake that stopped my getting anything for 29 across. I did better than the last few weeks in the Cryptic crossword, although there is still a lot of empty spaces, and there are a few answers I found that I have doubts about.

I had my usual two pints of Guinness, and times my exit so I wouldn't have to wait long for a train back to Catford Bridge. If my, or the train's timing was out by 5 minutes it would have been almost as quick to walk home, but if I did that I would lose out on a second short bit of train spotting, and because I haven't gone out for any rail adventures for so long, it was sort of useful to at least get a quick look at some trains.
a new train for
                              my photo collection
Once again I was lucky that in the 20 minutes or so that I was on railway platforms I was able to take a snap of another train that I had no recorded before. This train, 465933, was not in service, and running a few minutes ahead of my train back to Catford. I have seen this "service" before several times, and seems to run every Wednesday, and maybe every week day too (definitely today). As far as I can work out it runs fast from Blackfriars to Beckenham Junction station where it waits for a time, and then races back to Blackfriars. I can't see any purpose for it, but I expect there is one.

It wasn't dull enough to say it was gloomy on my way home, but it was dull enough to make me think it might rain. The light had that sort of undefined quality of impending rain. I don't think it did rain at any time for the rest of the day, but the late morning sparkle had definitely died, and that gave me a sort of sad feeling. The first thing I did when I got home was to start making lunch of cheese on toast. I had four slices of toast, but one was no bigger than a credit card, and the biggest was only about twice the size. It wasn't the huge feast that four slices might sound like.

After eating my cheese on toast I transferred the pictures from my pocket sized Nikon S6300 to my PC to consider what I would use. I actually took pictures of about 6 trains, but only the one above was needed to add to my spreadsheet of trains photographed. Once I had edited to two pictures I've used today I lay on my bed and had a snooze. It was just after 4pm when I woke up. I might have slept for an hour, but I was not timing it.

Once I had shaken the sleep from my head I went down to the kitchen to start to prepare my dinner. Initially I stewed the diced lamb that would have a lot of cauliflower added to it a bit later. By "a lot of cauliflower" I mean the whole of a small head of cauliflower. It was my belief that cauliflower would be like cabbage or broccoli, and have almost zero sugar in it, but this morning I am not so certain.

Maybe it was the Turkish delight that I ate that was bad for me. The previous day I had eaten some with no bad effects at all. Yesterday I ate some more, and once again I washed all the icing sugar off first. The problem may be that only three cubes of mango flavoured Turkish delight were covered in loads of icing sugar. The other cubes, or assorted flavours, had coconut around them, and hardly any icing sugar. They did seem sweet, and I now suspect the gelatine had a lot of sugar in it for those assorted flavours.

Last night was a night a night when I could probably have skipped dinner. When it came to it I didn't seem to feel that hungry, but having freshly made my dinner I wanted to eat it. Towards the end I found I was shovelling it down without enjoying it. I think I overdid the amount of cauliflower !It would have repercussions later.

I watch my usual selection of TV until the last programme ended at 8pm. There was nothing I fancied on later, and I was feeling both tired, and rather full of dinner. I retired to my bed to read for as long as I fancied it. I was possibly asleep from soon after 9pm, and I seemed to sleep well. I was even having an interesting, but non sensical dream of starting a company a bit like Paypal, but specifically for paying small bribes in places like the middle east or Africa, where such things are alleged to be common, or in America where they do it openly by calling it tipping. The whole idea of the company is that the company would distribute the money, but the patrons could declare the money paid to the company as a tax loss. It seemed a good idea, bit of course I had no knowledge of how it could ever work in reality.

It was just after midnight when I woke up very rapidly with the taste of my dinner almost back in my mouth. It was simple reflux, which is bad in itself, but it could have been the precursor to vomit, and that would be very irritating. I stayed awake for nearly 2 hours before I was sure it was some reflux, and that I wasn't about to vomit - although I suppose vomitting is just uncontrolled reflux.....or something.

I was feeling a bit cold when I tried to get back to sleep at around 2am, and ended up putting the heater on full. I ended up sleeping for the rest of the night with the duvet pushed to one side. It was rather extravagant use of expensive electricity, but it felt good at the time. Curiously enough, bits of my body seemed to feel cold when I finally got up, although my thermometer said I was running a fever - sort of. The actual temperature was 35.8° C, and in actual fact that is still 0.1° under my typical daily average, but it was still 0.4° C higher than a typical morning.

This morning my blood glucose had rocketed up to 10.0mmol/l. That is right on the red line, and I am unsure why. Was it the Turkish delight, or was it the cauliflower. Maybe it had something to do with today feeling like a constipation day - nothing has happened yet, but the morning is still fairly young. It may be insane, but I am assuming this morning's reading was just a blip, and things will be better tomorrow. I still had my usual breakfast of instant noodles, and I will have a lunch of something too.

Today should bring two good things. The first should be the delivery of my 12 bottles of St Bernardus Prior 8 abbey beer. It doesn't appear to have left the local depot yet, but I expect it will be leaving far earlier than a typical Amazon delivery, and could still be here before, or soon after, lunchtime. The second thing should be a beer tasting session with Jodie and Michael. I fear I will have to almost bully Jodie to check my last beer delivery to see what ones I can drink without her "supervision". I fear she will say we will have to sample almost all of them together because for some stupid reason I only ordered the most unknown beer I could find. Oh well, I should still have 11 bottles of the beer I am expecting today to drink at my own convenience.
