My Diary/Blog For the Month of February 2023

Tuesday 28th February 2023
 08:36 GMT

The forecast said no sunny spells yesterday, but there quite a few of them that provided an uplifting feel to what might have been a dull and miserable day. They didn't do anything to the temperature. It remained a rather cold, with even colder wind, day. The temperature, ignoring any wind chill, never went higher than 8° C, and 7° C was probably more representative for the day.
     another dull day
About an hour ago it seemed like the sun might break through the clouds, but alas no, and maybe we will not see the sun at all today. On the other hand, that was how yesterday was forecast, but included quite a few sunny spells. Once again the temperature is not expected to go any higher than 8° C, and depending on the wind it could feel a lot colder.  It is worth noting that the BBC weather forecast predicts light rain for this afternoon. Tomorrow could be a replay of today, but the weather could change a lot in 24 hours - maybe !

Yesterday got off to a good start, and that set the tone for the rest of the day. Admittedly the good "start" actually happened just after midday, but that was when I finally went out to the pharmacy. It seemed to take a long time before I felt ready to wash my hair, and have a shower, and maybe it took longer than expected to complete both. The rest of my day, night, and this morning, are, as usual, described in my complete archived page for today.
Monday 27th February 2023
 08:42 GMT

There were a lot of sunny spells yesterday, but it remained very cold. The predicted temperature was just 7° C, but it was windy, with some very strong gusts, and the wind chill made it feel closer to just 3° C.
     mostly dull
There was a frost early this morning, but as I write this (9.18am) the temperature is already up to 5° C, and by 3pm it should reach 8° C - which is still fairly cold. I had hoped the the latest revision of the forecast would show a nicer day, and in one small way it does. A few of the dark clouds have turned to white clouds, but it also shows a slightly worse day with the sunny spells for midday (as shown in the screenshot above) replaced by white cloud. It may not get as cold tonight as it did last night, and so tomorrow should start without any frost, but otherwise it will be similar to today, but maybe with darker clouds.

Yesterday was quite a busy day, but it was also fairly pleasant. Most of the day hinged on the delivery of my "new" £89.99 laptop. I must admit it came far sooner than expected, and a lot earlier than Amazon's prediction. After I finished writing yesterday morning, I only rested for 15 minutes before I started on the laptop. My complete day, night, and this morning are described in my complete archived page for today.
Sunday 26th February 2023
 08:10 GMT

Yesterday's weather forecast saying yesterday would be a cold day was 100% correct, but other aspects were very wrong. The most significant wrong was that instead of most of the day being half and half light and dark clouds, much of the day featured sunny spells. They pushed the temperature up to about 8° C. Just after midday the sunny spells stopped, and the clouds became very thick and heavy, and there was a light splash of rain. By 1pm, or thereabouts, the sunny spells returned. Now and then the clouds were thick enough to block the sun, but that usually only last 10 or 15 minutes.
     maybe sunny spells
                          today
The latest revision to the Met Office forecast has filled in most of the blanks, and now only 1pm is shown with sunshine or sunny spells. On the other hand, the BBC weather forecast seems to have added more blanks with no sunshine or sunny spells between 10am and 4pm. Both agree the maximum temperature today will only be 7° C, but when you add in wind chill it seems it will feel like 3 or 4° C. A very wintery feel ! Tomorrow will probably be a much greyer day, but the temperature could rise to 8° C. Like last night, tonight will be very cold - possibly cold enough for frost.

Yesterday was one of those days that seemed to be satisfactory even if I didn't do that much. It was another day when I allowed myself to be distracted, and so I didn't start writing until almost 9.30am. I wrote a lot yesterday, and it took nearly two hours before I had written, and corrected the most obvious errors, and finally uploaded the three versions (daily changeable version, complete daily archive, and summary for the monthly page) to my web sever. The complete version can be read on my full archived page.
Saturday 25th February 2023
 09:45 GMT

Yesterday was not that much different to how it was forecast, but one big difference was that the clouds started breaking up early, and the sun peeped through for a short while at about 2pm. A little later they clouds became what I shall call thick, but clumpy (or maybe thick and clumpy). There were only small gaps between those very grey clouds, but sunny spells became quite frequent until sunset. Those sunny spells did nothing, that I noticed, to the temperature which peaked at 8° C.
     maybe not accurate
As I write this were are experiencing the sunny spells forecast for 9am. Even the latest revision to the forecast says they will stop at 10am, but when I look at the sky I have doubts it will completely cloud over soon. This morning started at 4° C, and the best we can hope for later is only 7° C. It looks like it will be a windy today, and that is going to make it feel even colder.  In the latest revision the sunny spells for 5pm have been replaced by light cloud. It should remain dry today unless the BBC forecast turns out to be right with it's forecast for light rain at 11am and midday. Tomorrow could feature a lot of sunny spells through most of the day, but the afternoon temperature will still not be any higher than 7° C. Winter has returned !

I never gave any explanation of why I started to write so late yesterday morning. There was a simple, but maybe foolish explanation. I fell down the wikipedia hole early in the morning, and couldn't get out again. If you have never experienced falling down the wikipedia hole it is easy to try. You look something up on wikipedia, such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermobaric_weapon, which the Russians were reported as using in Ukraine, and then start following links in the article. Those links provided links to other links, and those to others, etc etc, etc ! Before long you might find yourself reading about grain cultivation on Oklahoma, or something, and before you notice several hours have passed painlessly by. All of yesterday, day and night, plus the start of this morning, is described in my complete archived page for today.
Friday 24th February 2023
 10:24 GMT

There were a few light showers yesterday that didn't appear in the forecast. The forecast also said dark clouds, but there were quite a few times when the clouds were light enough to make it seem semi-bright outside. For one brief moment there was even a thin sunny spells. It was quite a cold feeling day with the wind making the 8° C feel particularly cold.
     maybe like yesterday
Three hours, and three revisions to the forecast above has changed things only slightly. One change is the acknowledgement that they clouds this morning haven't been dark grey, but the latest revision say they will turn into dark clouds from midday. It is a sort of feel good thing, but ultimately pointless that 5pm may see some sunny spells. Once again it is going to be a cold day with a maximum of 8° C. Today's wind is probably lighter than yesterday, and so it might not feel that frigid outside today. Like today, tomorrow could start close to a frost with a temperature of just 2° C. It will then warm up, but to less than today. Just 7° C is predicted. Tomorrow morning might see a few hours of sunny spells, but the morning may end with light rain.

Yesterday was a mostly OK day. To keep things very brief, because I have started writing so late, I had a pleasant shopping trip to Tesco in the morning, and a pleasant beer tasting session with Jodie in the afternoon. There is not a lot more to add to that. The complete archived page for today contains another four short paragraphs.
Thursday 23rd February 2023
 08:03 GMT

Like the day before, yesterday was pretty horrible. It had the added "joy" of rain in the morning, and the thick clouds made it extra gloomy. The afternoon was dryer, and brighter, but only a bit bright.....more sort of pale grey. It was also a cold day with the temperature only just reaching 9° C.
     another dull day
The only good thing about today's weather is that there was no rain at 7am this morning. The latest revision to the forecast only shows one very slightly positive, but completely redundant thing - that 3pm may only feature light cloud instead of dark and heavy cloud. Most of the day shows just a 10% chance of rain, and that probably means it will be a dry day. It will be even cooler than yesterday. Just 8° C 7° C is forecast according to the latest revision. The temperature will drop a lot during the night, and we could be just a matter of a degree or two away from a frost in the small hours. The cloud will thicken up during the morning, and at the same time the temperature should rise to 8° C. The highlight tomorrow, if it actually happens, will be some sunny spells at 5pm.

Yesterday was not such a miserable day as the day before. Some of the reason for that was just a matter of getting comfortable with the misery, but it was a day when I did take some positive action. I hand washed two t-shirts and two pairs of underpants. There is more about yesterday, last night, and the start of today, in my complete archived page for today.
Wednesday 22nd February 2023
 09:07 GMT

It was horrible yesterday, dull, grey and cold. The forecast said the later afternoon temperature should reach 10° C, but I'm not sure it even stayed at 9° C for long.
     a pretty horrible day
It sometimes seems that the BBC weather forecasts are the most optimistic. If rain all day excites you then the BBC forecast is the one for you. Meanwhile, the Met Office only predict rain until midday, and it will probably be light rain. However the chance of rain from 1pm until the end of the day stays at 20%, and that gives a fair chance that there will be more rain. The latest revision says the temperature will be no higher than 8° C for nearly the whole day. Tomorrow may start wet, but maybe the day will be a tiny bit less cold, 9° C is forecast for the afternoon - but I expect tomorrow will make it's own decision about the weather.

Yesterday was a positively miserable day. My whole day was primed by the cold and miserable weather, but there were more tangible reasons for feeling miserable. One was the ongoing saga of Angela ignoring my messages. It almost seems as if she is actively putting me off from going to her wedding in June. All that is worth describing about my day, night, and this morning, can be read in my complete archived page for today.
Tuesday 21st February 2023
 08:06 GMT

Yesterday was almost nice. There were less sunny spells than the BBC forecast, but more than the Met Office forecast. The worst thing is that while the afternoon temperature reached the 12° C forecast, there was enough wind to make it feel cooler than that.
     a rather glum
                          forecast
It is most certainly a very dull morning, and the chance of any sunshine today looks remote in the extreme, however the BBC forecast does show sunny spells from about 2pm. The BBC also forecasts 12° C while the Met Office goes for a rather cool 10° C. The Met Office also thinks there is a 10% chance of rain from this morning to early afternoon. 10% usually means dry, but on some occasions that one in ten chance comes up trumps ! So today doesn't look good, but tomorrow looks positively bad. The BBC say rain all day, and just 9° C while the Met Office says there should be a gap in otherwise all day rain for a couple of hours around midday, and a few random hours in the evening.

There was one particular bad thing about yesterday, but I shall come to that later. Most of yesterday was not that bad, and the few disappointments were mostly trivial. At first I was thinking I would have a boring day indoors, but at 11.30am the sun burst through the clouds. I quickly went and had a shower so I could go out. My full description of today, last night, and this morning includes some pictures showing spring flowers, and other stuff.
Monday 20th February 2023
 09:04 GMT

Yesterday featured fairly pleasant weather. There were a lot more sunny spells than The Met Office forecast, and slightly less hours of full sunshine than the BBC forecast. The afternoon temperature reached 12 or 13° C, and it felt mild outside. The sun through my front windows was enough for it to be perfectly comfortable with no added heating from before midday until sunset.
     dull....or maybe not
Once again the BBC and Met Office do not match at all ! The latest revision to the Met Office forecast has removed the sunny spells for 3 and 4pm, and replaced them with more white cloud. The BBC, which has been going through a rare phase of getting closer to reality, now, after it's latest revision, shows sunny spells from 11am to 5pm. They also show an afternoon temperature of 14° C while the Met Office show only 12° C. The forecasts for tomorrow show a similar, but maybe more severe disparity. The Met Office paint a very gloomy picture for tomorrow with an afternoon temperature of just 10° C, but the BBC show an afternoon temperature of 13° C, and sunny spells for much of the afternoon. Let the best man win !!

The first half of yesterday was good. The second half not so good. The morning was enhanced by the bright sunny spells, and the afternoon's disappointment was softened by the sunny spells. Also the morning started well with low blood blood glucose, and a feeling of seeming to feel almost like I was well. the good and bad, plus my night, which was neutral, and the start of this morning, also fairly neutral, are described in my complete/full archived page for today.
Sunday 19th February 2023
 09:27 GMT

Like the day before, yesterday's forecast gave a very pessimistic idea of what the weather would be like, but not actually what it was like. Although clouds covered the sky all day, they were often very thin, almost transparent clouds. That made it much brighter outside, and occasionally there would be a minute or two of sunshine, sometimes a bit hazy, but occasionally full strength, that would slip through a small gap in the clouds. The temperature forecast for 13° C was about right, although it reached that earlier than forecast, and stayed there a bit longer than forecast.
     back to sunny spells
This morning the Met Office is coming around to the BBC's forecast way of thinking. The BBC show mostly full sunshine for today, and in the hours when it is not full sunshine, it shows sunny spells. The Met Office originally left quite a few hours without sunshine in their forecast. The latest revision shows those gaps filled in, but quite a few are just shown as sunny spells. The Met Office show a high of 12° C, and the BBC show 13° C. Yesterday morning the forecast for tomorrow, Monday, was shown as mostly sunny. The Met Office say no sunshine at all, but the BBC show sunny spells from 11am until sunset. The Met Office predicts tomorrow should see 12° C in the afternoon, and the BBC say 14° C. I want to believe the BBC, but I stopped using them because their forecasts were very wrong. Now I find the Met Office forecasts to be wrong. I wonder if I should switch back to the BBC.

I felt bored and depressed yesterday. I wanted to do stuff - no stuff in particular, but stuff ! I think I made the right decision in acting like I was getting over a cold, or at least not denying I was getting over a cold. The success of this can only be confirmed in a day or two, but there are indications that I might have finally broken the back of the cold. There is more of this, plus an extra weather forecast from the BBC, in my complete archived page for today. As boringly ever, it includes stuff about my sleep and the start of this morning.
Saturday 18th February 2023
 08:21 GMT

The forecast said yesterday would be a dull day, but the reality was that for much of the day the clouds were very thin, and there were a lot of sunny spells. Sometimes it would be hazy sunshine, but still very welcome. It was also a very mild day with the temperature briefly hitting 15° C.
     mostly dull
The forecast for today is a lot like the forecast for yesterday. Yesterday it turned out to be generally wrong, but this morning the clouds do look a lot more substantial, and maybe there will be no sign of the sun today. It gets worse if the BBC weather forecast turns out to be closer to reality. That predicts rain for 2pm, but only 2pm. All three of my outdoor temperature sensors agree that it is just over 12° C as I write this, and that make me feel that today's temperature could go as high as 14° C.  Tomorrow could see sunshine/sunny spells until early afternoon (or later according to the BBC), but it could be several degrees cooler than today.

Yesterday felt like a moderately busy day. It wasn't really, but I did get a few things done including a shopping trip to Tesco, and hand washing a t-shirt, a pair of lounge pants, and some underwear. I could add some washing up, and some cookery to the list, but the latter two things usually get done every day no matter how little of anything else is done. My day is more fully described, with some pictures, in my complete archived page for today. It includes my night and the start of this morning.
Friday 17th February 2023
 09:08 GMT

It almost seemed like a paradox that yesterday was generally very dull, and yet it felt like a warm day, and a warm night. In this case the word "warm" was almost right, although "not cold" might be more accurate. I didn't keep a close eye on my thermometers, but I think the BBC was right with their prediction of 13° C.
     maybe not so dull
                          today
During the night I don't think the temperature fell below 10° C, and it was most definitely 12° C this morning. By 2pm it could be up to 14° C. That would feel very nice if there were any sunshine, and that might not be impossible. The forecast does say just like cloud this morning, although as I write this it should be heavy cloud, but to my amazement we have just had a minute or two of sunshine. That could have been a fluke, but the clouds do look very thin, and I can even see blue behind some of them. Today could be dry, but there is a 20% chance of rain at 8 and 9pm. That almost makes it very likely, but no rain is shown on the weather charts. Tomorrow could be a lot like today, although the heavy clouds are shown in the morning, and lighter clouds in the afternoon. The temperature may only be 13° C.

I think I can describe yesterday as being a good day. It was even a bit productive, although really that was just limited to hand washing two t-shirts and 5 pairs of underpants. For most of the morning I was actually in a pretty lazy mode/mood. Life got more interesting in the afternoon, and featured an Amazon delivery, surprisingly early in the afternoon, and some beer tasting. All the details of this, the beer tasting, and the rest of the day, the night, and the start of this morning can be read in my complete archived page for today.
Thursday 16th February 2023
 07:30 GMT

Yesterday was the last day of a series of pleasant days, and it was also the best of those pleasant days. The sun was out most of the time, although now and again it was slightly hazy sunshine, and the temperature definitely hit 13° C. It probably hit 14° C for an hour or two.
     dull and damp
The BBC weather forecast warns of drizzle this morning, and they are right. The Met Office say there is a 10% chance of rain at any time today, but don't say any time when it will rain. The BBC also say that from 1pm there will be light cloud. The Met Office say heavy cloud all day. It seems the chances of any sunshine today are zero ! Nevertheless, this afternoon should still see the temperature rise to 12° C (or 13° C according to the BBC). Tomorrow may be very similar, but 1° warmer.

Yesterday was good and bad. The good was definitely walking through the park in my sleeveless denim jacket, and feeling the sun on my arms. The bad, or part of it, was walking through the park and feeling like I was on the tail end of a 8 mile walk ! Also bad was that Angela continues to ignore my messages. All this, and more is described in my complete archived page for today. It also includes notes about my night and the start of this morning.
Wednesday 15th February 2023
 08:40 GMT

It seemed like a fair few hours of yesterday's sunshine was long sunny spells. The other thing that spoiled yesterday was shown in the forecast, but I didn't realise it - by midday the temperature had barely reached 9° C. The 12° C that seemed to be most appealing, wasn't reached until 2pm, and I am not 100% sure that happened. The thing is, that despite the hours of sunshine, it seemed it only managed to warm my south facing bedroom up for a a fairly short period of time without the additional help of my heater.
     (another) a glorious
                          bright sunny day
Both the BBC and the Met Office agree that today should see the sunshine raise the temperature to 14° C today, although the Met Office says only for 3pm, while the BBC says for 2 and 3pm. As I write this the sunshine is rather weak and hazy looking, but it should strengthen soon. Tonight should be a warmer night than last night thanks to the gathering clouds. Tomorrow could still see 13° C, but it is going to be a grey day with drizzle in the morning, and maybe light rain a bit later.

Yesterday was not the nice day I hoped for. It was spoiled by the weather. The bright sunshine should have been good, but it seemed to lack warmth. I think it was midday before I felt like my bedroom was being warmed by the sunshine enough to warrant turning the heater off. Now I will admit I was being very sedate, and so was more comfortable in a warmer room, but I had to turn the heater back on a few hours later. There are further observations about yesterday, last night, and the start of this morning in my complete archived page for today.
Tuesday 14th February 2023
 08:31 GMT

It was most definitely sunny yesterday, and it was also just about warm. The temperature reached the forecast 10° C, and may have gone up a degree or two more. The micro climate in central London, and in particular by the River Thames, is always a bit warmer than outer London, and for a couple of hours I was in central London, right next to the Thames, and it could easily have been short sleeves weather. It did cool down quite a bit by the end of the day.
     (another) a glorious
                          bright sunny day
I don't think the forecast started off quite right. There may have been some mist at 7am, before the sunrise, but it was clear by 8am. Also, the temperature was lower than 3° C because there was frost this morning. There is some high haze at the moment making the clear blue sky look a sort of pale grey sort of blue. With luck the sun will be out all day, and today we can hope for 12° C. Tomorrow will probably be the last of these nice days. The rot sets in just before sunset when only sunny spells are forecast. However, it is possible that tomorrow could see 13° C in the afternoon.

Yesterday was dominated by a walk in the sun I did, and it's later consequences. As I said yesterday morning, I was not initially feeling comfortable about going for a walk, but fortunately my main concern was answered by another productive visit to the toilet. Even after that I had a few doubts, but after having a shower I got dressed, and headed to the station. What happened next is described and also illustrated with 13 photos, in my complete archived page for today. It also include stuff about yesterday evening, last night, and some of this morning.
Monday 13th February 2023
 08:18 GMT

Yesterday was hopefully the last of a string of dull and gloomy days. The sky was dominated by dark grey sky, and around midday it seemed that the 10% chance of rain shown for every hour of the day, did actually include some very fine rain. I could feel it on my face, but there was not enough to make the pavement look wet. The only good thing about yesterday, although only by a ridiculously fine margin, was that the temperature did rise to 10° C, as forecast.
     a glorious bright
                          sunny day
The sun has only just risen high enough to shine over the house roofs to the east, but is now lighting up my front rooms. With luck the forecast will hold, and the sun will shine at full strength for the rest of the daylight hours - which are slowly getting longer and longer. The forecast says the Ultra Violet content of the sun is still low, and maybe that is ideal for starting a summer tan. It will get hot behind glass, but outside will only reach 10° C. Tomorrow, another day of full sunshine could raise the outside temperature to 12° C. Provided the wind is very light, that is shirt sleeve weather provided you keep in the sun, and keep moving !

I can't make up my mind whether to say yesterday was a good or bad day.  I did eventually hear from Jodie who confirmed she was too busy getting ready for going away somewhere today to come over for a beer tasting session. That made yesterday the seventh day since I had seen anyone because I didn't see Angela last Wednesday, and I didn't see Jodie last Thursday. Once again I had to amuse myself by myself. What I did do through the day, what sort of sleep I had, and my thoughts this morning, are all described in my complete archived page for today.
Sunday 12th February 2023
 09:12 GMT

Yesterday wasn't particularly cold, 10° C in the afternoon, but it was a very grey, very depressing day. It could only have been worse if it rained - which despite the 10% chance of rain, it stayed dry.
     another depressingly
                          grey day
Today looks like it will be a re-run of yesterday. It will be very depressingly grey, and the afternoon temperature will be 10° C again. Once again there will be a 10% chance of rain falling at any time today, but no rain is shown on the weather chart. Tomorrow morning is looking far better. Sunny spells in the morning, and full sunshine in the afternoon. The temperature could touch 11° C for a short time. The BBC website forecast is very optimistic about the weather for tomorrow and the next few days. It shows loads of sunshine and the temperature reaching 12° C for a few days.

Yesterday was a most depressing day, and of course that had consequences that came close to disaster levels....or maybe it was a disaster, but more about that later. It all hinged on the weather and the state of my health. My health was improving a lot, which was good, but it seemed like I would never feel well again, which was bad, although also nonsense. I attempt to explain all this in a more complete way, plus other stuff, including about my sleep through the night, and thoughts this morning in my complete archived page for today.
Saturday 11th February 2023
 08:22 GMT

As I suspected might be the case, yesterday's sunny spells lasted a bit longer than the forecast said, although in this case "longer" mainly meant filling in gaps left in the forecast, rather than later in the afternoon. It made for an almost cheerful day that was only spoiled by the maximum temperature being just 8° C. However the breeze was very light, and that made that 8° C feel not quite freezing !
     doom and gloom
Only the latest revision of the BBC version of the weather forecast gives any hope for today. It says light cloud all day instead of the Met Office's dark clouds. The latest revision of both forecasts has not changed the forecast a single bit today. One very small change in the latest revision is that is that the afternoon temperature should now reach 11° C. Tomorrow could be just as grey, and only 9° C, It is also worth noting that for all of today and tomorrow there is a 10% chance of rain at any time. 10% usually means it will be dry, but on rare occasions it does rain.

Yesterday got off to a good start if I ignore the very painful sore throat I woke up with. That sore throat was finally cured by my hot, instant noodles, breakfast. Once the sun broke through the somewhat misty clouds, which happened very soon after 8am, the sunshine was very uplifting. Sadly the afternoon and evening were more depressing despite the sunshine continuing until mid afternoon. All this is fully described in my complete archived page for today, which includes a paragraph or two about my poor nights sleep, and a bit about this morning.
Friday 10th February 2023
 07:43 GMT

Once again it seems the weather forecasts, or at least the earlier versions of them, underestimated the amount of sunshine yesterday. It wasn't non stop, and there was a period of time when it did get overcast for a while, but on the whole it seemed like a sunny day - sunshine that warmed my bedroom, but only raised the outside temperature to 9° C for as little as a single hour.
     mostly dull
At first it didn't seem like there would be much sunshine today, but the latest revision to the forecast shows sunshine/sunny spells for 8am, 10am, and then midday through to 3pm. With just light cloud predicted for other times, it seems feasible that the sun could break through at other times too. Sadly, only 8° C is likely to be the highest temperature today. There is an alternative view on the BBC weather forecast. That shows sunshine or sunny spells from sunrise to sunset, and a top temperature of 9° C for most of the afternoon. Tomorrow should reach 10° C, but it seems the whole day will be a bit gloomy.

Yesterday was a day when I was ill, but sometimes forgot it. When laying on my bed, reading or trying to snooze, with warm, or even hot feeling sunshine streaming through the windows, it was easy to think I felt OK.....but then something would happen that reminded me I was not OK. That is how most of yesterday was passed, but in the evening I did have some special medicine that did seem to work. You can read about the whole of yesterday, last night, and how well the medicine worked, in my complete archived page for today.
Thursday 9th February 2023
 07:49 GMT

Yesterday was yet another bright and sunny, but still cold day. The day actually started with some mist, but it wasn't long before the sun broke through, and it remained shining all day. Sadly it only raised the temperature to about 7° C.
     maybe sunny spells
                          later in the afternoon
The very first revision to today's forecast has changed the light cloud at the start of the day to thick and heavy clouds. with a 10% chance of rain. The sunny spells have been put back to starting at midday, and finishing after 4pm. Today may still make 9° C, but if the trend of the first revision continues it may not get that high, and some sunny periods might tirn out to be rainy periods. Tomorrow is currently shown as featuring mostly light cloud, but with a chance of some sunny spells at midday. Like today, the temperature may briefly peak at 9° C.

Yesterday was both good and bad - a not unusual thing, except this time it was all to do with the cold I started suffering from. I spent a lot of the day just being very lazy in my bedroom soaking up the warmth of the combined heat of the sunshine through the windows, and the heater on low. At other times I could have turned the heater off, but raising my bedroom to summer temperature was enough to make me forget I was ill. Considering how little I did yesterday, it is surprising how much I have written about it, along with about my night, and this morning, in my complete archived page for today.

After the foggy start,  yesterday was a nice sunny day - nice but still very cold. The maximum temperature was just 7° C, but maybe with very little wind that only felt cold instead of very cold.
     another misty start to
                          the day
There was some early morning mist this morning, but it seemed to lift very quickly, and the rest of today should see blue skies and bright sunshine. It will also see the temperature only reach 7° C again, but that is rather better than the -2° C this morning. As I write this it should now be 0° C, but it still hasn't risen by more than a degree.  Tomorrow should be a less cold day. It is expected to be 3° C in the morning, and rise to 8° C in the afternoon. Unfortunately it will come at the cost of grey skies, although a few sunny spells late in the afternoon are currently shown as being possible.

As is usually the case when I am expecting a delivery, yesterday revolved around waiting for that delivery. I knew it would not be coming until the afternoon at the most unlikely very earliest, and that did give me plenty of time to go out to get some shopping from Tesco. I also went to Superdrug too. Why I went there, and what I bought from Tesco, plus other inconsequential things, plus more important things about yesterday, last night, and this morning, are all described in my complete archived page for today.

Yesterday was very similar to the day before. There was copious sunshine, and while that warmed my front, south facing, rooms, it was very cold outside. The forecast temperature was for 8° C, but it barely reached that.
     misty/foggy start to a
                          frosty morning
This morning sees a return to a frosty start, and also fog, or thick mist. It seemed clear when I peeped outside at around 8am, and I was most surprised to see the forecast for fog held true when I opened the curtains at 9am. The latest revision to the forecast has added fog for 10am. The sun, when it eventually breaks through, should look very nice, but it will only warm up outdoors to just 7° C this afternoon. It is going to be another very cold night, and tomorrow morning will start at 0° C. No mist or fog is predicted for tomorrow morning, and from sunrise to sunset there should be non stop sunshine, but like today we will be lucky to see anything higher than 7° C.

Yesterday was one of those days that was rather different to any intended thoughts or plans. In some ways it was an experimental day, and those experiments were usefully productive. The only real work I did was to hand wash two t-shirts. One was a white t-shirt, and couldn't be mixed with black t-shirts, but it seemed to be OK to wash it with a well washed light blue t-shirt. This continues, along with the description of the rest of my day, last night, and the start of this foggy morning in my complete archived page for today.

It was cold all day yesterday, just 8° C at maximum, but it was also very sunny - rather more so than the sporadic sunny spells that were forecast. All the sunshine seemed to warm my bedroom up to the point where I opened the window, for the first time in many months, to let in some fresh air !
     lots of sunshine/sunny
                          spells
There are few small, probably high altitude, clouds, but most of the sky is blue, and the sun is shining. It should continue until sunset. Sadly it won't warm the outside world up (although it should warm my south facing rooms), and today will be another cold day with no more than 8° C expected. This morning started off very chilly, and tomorrow could start as low as 1° C. It may also be misty or foggy - possibly a freezing fog - but from 10am the sun should start to break through, and the rest of tomorrow may be a lot like today - cold, but sunny.

Apart from having a shower, and doing a little very light tidying up, I did very little yesterday morning. Just after midday I set things up to test a few lenses to determine which gave the sharpest image, and to try and prove if the Tamron lens I had blamed for producing "soft" looking images really was to blame. Unfortunately I rushed it and didn't draw any great conclusions. The rest of my day, which includes getting nicely drunk, and some stuff about events last night, and the usual stuff from the morning, is all described in my complete archived page for today.

Rather sadly, yesterday saw the return of dull, and cold feeling weather. It stayed dry, but some of the black clouds that drifted across the sky did look like it might rain. With an afternoon temperature of 11° C it shouldn't have been a cold day, but it felt it, and with no sunshine through my front windows, I had to burn a lot of electricity to stay warm.
     some or many cold
                          sunny spells
It would seem, assuming the forecast is correct, that only 11am and midday won't see sunny spells today. They may help warm up my front. south facing rooms, but outside it is going to feel cold with the temperature only rising to 8° C maximum in the afternoon. Unless you are in BBC land, tomorrow may start with mist and fog (The BBC forecast says it will be clear with sunny spells), but the sun should break through by 10am, and there could be full sunshine until sunset. Once again that sun should warm up my front rooms, but outside it may be no more than 7° C.

At least half of yesterday was not nice. It was the price to pay for my evening out at Chain's gig the night before. I felt tired. It wasn't the sleepy kind of tired, but something more akin to exhaustion, although it wasn't as bad as that. On top of that many of my aches and pains were back. Most were like muscular pain, but some were joint pains. None were particularly bad, but together, and combined with the weary sort of feeling, it made it difficult to raise enthusiasm for anything. However I did seem to manage to do a fair bit yesterday. It is all described, along with a couple of pictures, plus some stuff about last night and the start of this morning in my complete archived page for today.

The forecaster who came closest to predicting yesterday's weather was the BBC, but even they underestimated the amount of sunshine. They said sunny spells until mid afternoon. The Met Office said dull weather with no sunshine, but reality was almost non stop sunshine until about 2pm, and there were a few sunny spells after that. There was a very light breeze and so 12° C was feeling very mild. In fact 10° C at 10pm felt quite mild.
     very dull
The Met Office are having another go at predicting a gloomy day, and judging by how the sky looks at the moment, they could be right. In the latest revision all but 5pm are shown as dark clouds. There is a persistent 10% chance of rain for he whole day, although none is actually shown on the forecast. The afternoon temperature should reach 11° C.  The sky should partly clear tonight, and that will mean a much colder night, but sunny spells for a lot of tomorrow. Unfortunately the maximum temperature tomorrow may only reach 8 or 9° C.

Most of yesterday was pretty quiet and almost boring. It was because the evening would be very different. More that later, but during the day I probably spent a lot of time just reading or trying to snooze. I don't think I actually managed to fall asleep, but I definitely spent a few odd 10, or so, minute periods with my eyes closed. There were three other things I did during the day, and then in the evening I went out. You can read all about my day, evening, night, and the start of this morning, plus see some pictures taken last night in my complete archived page for today.

The sunny spells yesterday morning lasted a bit longer than hoped, but maybe only until 11am. After that it stayed modestly bright with mostly white clouds overhead. It was a mild day starting at around 8° C, and peaking at 12° C. That made it easier to heat indoors, but it still seemed to feel cold outside.
     sunshine or no
                          sunshine ?
Today is one of those days when no one can predict the weather. The latest revision has added 10am to the sunny spells shown for 9am in the screenshot above.  It still shows midday to 2pm as featuring dark clouds. At this point it is worth mentioning that the BBC forecast shows sunny spells through the morning, and now on to 2pm in the latest revision. They also show an afternoon temperature of 13° C compared to the Met Office prediction of 12° C. Both agree that from 3pm there will be white cloud for the rest of the day. The BBC show tomorrow as featuring light cloud all day, and The Met Office say heavy cloud all day tomorrow. Tomorrow after may be 10 or 11° C depending on which forecaster comes closer to the truth - which will be revealed as it happens tomorrow.

Yesterday was a pretty fair day. It included some good drinking, and that was good. The rest of the day was fairly uneventful, although there was some strong frustration around lunch time. That, of course, is a very brief précis of the day, but there is more to than that. There is a lot more to say about yesterday, last night, and quite a lot about this morning in my complete archived page for today.
Thursday 2nd February 2023
 09:08 GMT

The forecast sunny spells lasted a bit later than 11am, and only finished some time after 1pm. During the afternoon I noted my outside thermometers were saying 12° C, but it still felt very cold outside because of a very cold wind. That 12° C did make it feel less cold indoors, and in particular my unheated bathroom only felt cold instead of icy !
     another bright
                          morning
It is a shame that the latest revision to the weather forecast says the sunny spells will finish at 10am, and there will be none this afternoon. A fair bit of the sky is blue at the moment, and maybe some sunny spells will happen after 10am. It was quite a mild night, and the afternoon temperature should reach 11° C.  It is possible that it might actually feel like that today because it seems we will have much lighter winds today. From 7pm the clouds will probably turn a lot thicker and darker, and the chance of rain is shown as 10% - that usually means dry, but not always ! Tomorrow is shown as starting at 9° C, and it could rise to 12° C by the afternoon, but although the clouds are predicted to be white cloud, no sunshine at all is predicted.

On the whole, yesterday was a very disappointing day. It was the sort of day where one bad thing triggers another. The core of it all was a message from Angela saying she wouldn't be at the pub. She gave no explanation why. I don't think she was ill, but I did wonder if she was feeling under the weather.  Other speculation, and how the rest of my day, night, and this morning, can be read in my complete archived page for today.
Wednesday 1st February 2023
 08:40 GMT

The weather forecast for yesterday said that there would be sunny spells at midday, but later revisions said no sunny spells, and so the sun came out at 11:30am, and sunny spells continued until 1pm, and possibly a little later than that. The rest of the day was dull, but the outside temperature of 11° C in the afternoon was just about noticeable indoors.
     mostly dull
There is a lot of doubt about how many sunny spells we will get this morning. As I write this, just 15 minutes from 9am, the sun is barely above the eastern roof tops, and it looks like it is rather hazy sunshine. Looking out both my north and south facing windows I see mainly blue sky, and it seems possible that we could get more than just sunny spells this morning. It seems too much to hope that it might last until even 1pm, but fingers crossed ! This afternoon the temperature should rise from this morning's 6° C to 10° C. In sunshine that could feel warm, but I think  warm coat will still be needed. Today should be dry, but the chance of rain is now shown to be 10% from as early at 1pm. No sunshine at all is forecast for tomorrow, but the temperature should rise to 11° C, and it should stay dry. Friday might see 12° C !

Once again, yesterday had it's ups and downs, and also a bit of drunkenness ! My whole day revolved around waiting for two deliveries. The first, several boxes of beer, came a little earlier than expected at 2.30pm. Even the second, spare eyepiece pad for my Nikon cameras, were delivered a bit earlier than expected by Amazon. I was expecting that delivery to be well after dark, but it arrived just before 5pm. My whole day is described in more detail, along with my night, and this morning in my complete archived page for today.
