The current weather
matches the latest revision to the forecast.
That says full sunshine for 8 and 9am, and it
was full sunshine until I typed 9am, and then
a small cloud must have obscured the sun, but
it is sunny again. If this latest revision to
the forecast has any credence then it will
start to rain by 10am. The Met Office says
heavy rain, and some lighter rain, until 5pm.
The BBC weather forecast almost agrees with
this, but they say mostly light rain, and says
it will finish an hour later at 6pm. Both
agree that the temperature will peak at 13° C
for a few hours. Tomorrow may be similar to
today, but the 13° C peak temperature will be
later in the afternoon.
After my bad sleep the night before, I
did feel sort of tired yesterday. After I
finished writing I spent close to the rest of
yesterday morning laying on my bed reading and
snoozing. I can't remember what spurred me on
to have a shower, and start to get things
ready. It could have been Michael sending a
text message asking if I wanted some bottles
of Diet Coke while he was out shopping in his
car, or it could have been Jodie phoning me to
call in sick. She had a bad case of bunged up
nose and stuff, and thought it better if she
didn't come over for some beers.
It seems ages since Jodie was last
here. She missed two sessions because she was
in Finland for a gig and stuff. I had hoped to
excite her by showing all the unusual beers I
had bought. Evidently I couldn't do it in
person, but I did take pictures of the bottles
(in groups of three) and sent them to her. She
replied that she didn't recognise most of them
except the most of the Italian, lager style,
beers I had bought for Michael to sample. She
said that you could get them at any Pizza
Express, or other Pizza places, but I don't
generally eat pizza, and so I have no idea
about it.
Jodie may not have been coming over,
but it was lucky I got all the preparations
done early because Michael arrived early so
that he could miss the heavier rain that was
almost chasing him up the road. Michael is
always very wary about beers he doesn't know,
but he did like those Italian beers I had
bought for him. We had a very nice time, and
we could possibly have drunk for longer, but
Michael wanted to get home in time for Star
Trek at 6pm.
After my very high blood glucose
reading in the morning I did my best not to
eat too much lunch, and I did almost manage
that, but I didn't want to drink on an empty
stomach. I started off with a simple cheese
sandwich. It was quite small because I am
coming to the end of the loaf of Polish
Sourdough bread, and it tapers down towards
the end. I think the slices I had yesterday
was about one and a half times the size of a
credit card. That was not very big, and so I
had another sandwich of ham and cheese.
I hadn't prepared any dinner for after
drinking, and that was by design. I wondered
if I could avoid any dinner, but that was
going a bit far after all the booze. I thought
I could get away with just a single can of
soup - Tesco's own brand cream of chicken soup
which has an incredibly low sugar content. One
was nice, and very safe. A second would also
have been very safe as well, but I got an
uncontrollable urge to have a bowl of instant
noodles for "dessert". That was not ideal, but
it was nice.
Like Michael, I too watched some Star
Trek. There were a couple of episodes/series
to choose from at the same time, and both
seemed not that good. At 7pm I turned over to
watch The Simpsons on Channel 4+1, but I found
it replaced by Channel 4 News. I haven't
watched any TV news for maybe years, and so
curiosity had me watching the news last night.
It was not exactly thrilling, and in places
really tedious and depressing. Some of it was
about the economy. Apparently inflation has
not been very high according to the
government, but in reality some prices in
Tesco have almost doubled, and everything had
increased well beyond the supposedly official
5%. At the same time there was outrage that
the mortgage/bank rate was also 5%. Within a
year of buying my house the mortgage rate had
gone up to 15% (or possibly 17% for a short
while). Now that was hard, but I don't recall
the price of food rising, although I did end
up brewing my own beer to save money.
I think I turned back to Star
Trek:Voyager after the news, and although I
don't really care for much of the Voyager
series, it was a relief after the news. That
finished at 8pm, and I didn't see anything
else worth watching after that, and took my
book to bed to read. It was not long after
Michael had gone home that I sent Angela a
message to say that I really wished that
Angela would soon be well enough to join
Michael and me for a booze up at home or in a
pub.
I wasn't sure if she would reply, and
initially she didn't, but just after I turned
out the light to go to sleep, at 8.30pm, she
sent a reply. It was rather sad. She said she
felt so unwell, and couldn't imagine ever
getting better. I sent a reply where I tried
to be as positive as I could be, trying to
have a bit more belief that she would be start
being free of pain probably sooner than she
believed, and that her recover would speed up
then, plus some other stuff. A few minutes
later I added a PS of "Sweet dreams".
There was quite a pause before she
responded to that with a simple "Xxxxxx". It
almost felt like she could only read and reply
to my messages when lover boy had gone to the
toilet or something. I have to presume he is
staying there all the time now because I doubt
she can get up and down stairs without some
sort of help, and won't be able to do any
shopping, and probably not even any cooking.
It makes me wonder how she gets to and from
hospital appointments.
I think I fell asleep before 9pm last
night, and I seemed to sleep extremely well. I
can't remember any periods of insomnia - not
even after getting up to go for a pee. In such
cases I was probably back asleep again with a
few minutes. Like a lot of the time these
days, I can definitely remember having several
dreams during the night, but I can't seem to
recall the contents, or even the theme of
those dreams. That is sort of annoying.
What was not annoying was when I
checked my blood glucose this morning. It was
10.0mmol/l yesterday morning, and right on the
red line, but this morning it had come right
down to 8.8mmol/l. That is not bad, and rather
typical. I would still like to get it down
into the sevens, like it was for a few days
before yesterdays 10.0, but that seems more
luck than judgement.....or maybe it sometimes
depends on how well my bowels are working.
This morning I've "been" twice, but it seems
like only quite small quantities.
Until about 20 minutes ago, when it
started to cloud over, I could have been quite
keen to go out. The sunshine was lovely, and
although not warm, it was still fairly mild at
about 9° C. As I write this it is quite dull,
and probably getting duller. I really don't
fancy going out when it's like this even if I
could be sure it would stay dry, but of course
both forecasters, The Met Office and The BBC,
bot agree there is going to more than a
sprinkle of rain soon. It looks like it could
be another day of staying in.
It could be dry from 7pm tonight, and
there is a gig I am curious about that I could
go to. There are two support bands on before
Unorfadox at The Birds Nest tonight. It is an
easy pub to get to - about 15 to 20 minutes on
a 47 bus, but there are downsides. I am told
that although the layout has changed since I
last went to The Birds Nest, it is still quite
cramped in there, and I really would find it
hard to wait until the band I want to see
comes on. If they were on first I would go
just for 20 minutes to get a few snaps before
going home again,, but I think I have talked
myself out of it already !
It's 9.45am, the sun is still shining,
but the first rain is just hitting the window,
and any blue bits of sky are shrinking even as
I watch......
