The sky was looking
very threatening, but the sun managed to break
through a little while ago. Meanwhile the
forecast has been revised to show the first
rain falling at 10am this morning. It will/may
start light, but build up to heavy rain by
midday. With luck the garden will be watered,
and it will all be over soon after 5pm. This
morning started out mild at around 12° C. It
will apparently only rise to a rather cool 14°
C today. Tomorrow will start dull, but it is
supposed to brighten up by the afternoon, and
the afternoon could see some a few isolated
sunny spells. The temperature could hit a very
summer like 20° C.
Yesterday was an odd day. It didn't
feel like a conventional hangover, but I guess
it was partly a hangover that left me feeling
"off". I can't really describe what "off"
really means beyond it being a negative thing
both physically and mentally. There were a few
other things feeding into such a feeling. My
poor sleep because of unstable guts, and my
unstable guts still acting up through a lot of
the morning didn't help. Then there was the
negative weather. It may have barely rained,
but that was still enough to make an
assortment of joints ache.
There was only one constructive thing I
did yesterday, and it was more a case of had
to rather than want to. It was to finish hand
washing a medium sized bath towel. Enough bits
of me ached to make me do the remaining rinses
in two shifts with a long break between them.
It was mid afternoon before I hung up the
towel to dry. With hindsight I could have hung
it on the washing line because it started dry
after the short sprinkle of rain just before
midday.
One thing I tried to do, and to some
extent I succeeded in doing was to really
restrict what I was eating because of my high
blood glucose reading in the morning
(10.1mmol/l). I skipped breakfast, but I did
have an early lunch of a bowl of instant
noodles at around midday. I thought that by
then my blood glucose had probably dropped
below the danger line. I think it was mid to
late afternoon when I was feeling hungry or
bored enough to have a large snack.
That large snack was the the remainder,
in fact probably over half, of a pack of
"chicken trimmings" from Aldi. I can't imagine
it having a long shelf life once opened, even
when stored in the fridge. I thought I had
better not just use some, but use it all up. I
microwaved it for 3 minutes. That should have
got it hot enough to kill any bugs that might
have started growing on it. I ate it all with
a very generous squirt of mayonnaise, and an
occasional splash of chilli sauce.
By the afternoon I had got tired of
trying to snooze, and yet every time I started
reading my eyelids would droop, and every time
I put the book down and closed my eyes I did
not fall asleep. Actually I think I may have
had one short snooze. For want of something
more entertaining I started to watch more
episodes of season three of Star Trek: Picard.
Like the start of season 1 and 2, a lot of the
first few episodes were just boring scene
settings for the following episodes which are
more entertaining. Although I still maintain
that a decent TV educated editor, instead of
hack movie editor, would have cut each season
down the 6 half hour episodes, and it would be
better for it.
I kept sort of forgetting that
yesterday was an ordinary week day, and that
there would be the usual Star Treks on in the
early evening. I watched them with little
enthusiasm. The "Next Generation" offering was
a repeat of a repeat of a repeat, and I could
watch it with my eyes closed. "Enterprise" was
a tedious storyline that I have seen at least
once before, and found it boring every time.
It was one of those stories that
feed into the Federation "Prime Directive" -
basically about not interfering with other
cultures. In this case it was about an alien
race with three sexes. The third sex was
considered a lower form of life, and "Tripp",
one of the Enterprise's senior officers
thought he should liberate her/it from it's
traditional lifestyle of being something like
a pampered pet. It all ended in disaster, and
would end up as another parable why alien
cultures should not be interfered with.
Star Trek: Voyager was marginally not
boring, but it was full of the sort of sappy
do gooding that Michael loves about the
series, and I don't. I can't quite remember if
it was during Enterprise or Voyager that I
felt like I wanted some dinner, and I wanted
something unusual, and only possibly safe in
some respects. I had a whole tub of Oppo, low
calorie, and seemingly low sugar ice cream. It
was very nice, and very satisfying.
Despite it being a weekday, Dave were
not showing any QI or Have I Got News For You
last night. They were showing a couple of
episodes of Red Dwarf, but despite being a fan
originally I seemed to have grown up or
something....or maybe the later episodes just
didn't have the pull of earlier episodes. I
don't know what series last nights two
episodes were from. I elected to slowly go to
bed. I can't be sure, but I think I was
possibly asleep by 9pm.
I think I slept well last night. I only
got up to pee a couple of times before about
5am. It was probably about 5am when I woke up
from what seemed to be a long dream, but no
matter how I try I can't seem to recall
anything about it now. I do get a slight hint
that it might have involved pubs, but I could
be confusing it with a dream from several days
ago. After a pee I went back to bed, and to my
surprise I slept until about 7.20am
I think the final proof is in that
provided I am careful, I can eat that Oppo ice
cream without upsetting my blood glucose. This
morning it was down to an unremarkable
8.6mmol/l. Had I eaten a meat and cabbage stew
instead, it would probably have been
lower....but who can tell. While my blood
glucose, and it seems my bowels, are in good
working order, the upcoming rain is making all
sort of bit of me ache this morning. I am
writing this with wrist support on my right
wrist because it get so sore while typing.
This morning I had a nice bowl of
instant noodles, and tonight I need to use up
some opened bacon and sausages. That should be
nice, but I think it will be safer to have it
with boiled white cabbage rather than baked
beans. It could still be nice. I have no idea
what I might eat during the day, but I suspect
it may feature rice cakes. I also have no idea
what I will be doing today - probably waiting
for the rain, and then possibly watching the
rain.
