There was no thunderstorms yesterday
despite the forecasts warning of one or more
at some undefined time. It was certainly hot
and humid, and the conditions seemed right
for a thunderstorm, but the rain was just
not heavy enough. There was rain in the
afternoon, as forecast, and there was quite
a bit of rain mid evening, which was not
forecast. The evening was supposed to
feature sunny spells and even sunshine. The
afternoon temperature was about 26° C.
It is looking like it might
rain soon, but there has been no rain so
far this morning. The latest revision to
the forecast just says light rain at 10am
and 1pm. There could be random sunny
spells in the afternoon, and the
temperature should reach 22° C. Meanwhile,
the BBC tells a slightly different tale of
light rain from 10am to 1pm, and sunny
spells and even strong sunshine later in
the afternoon, but only 21° C expected
this afternoon. Tomorrow should start off
nice and bright, but cloudy spells may
dominate much of the rest of the day. 23°
C is the highest expected temperature.
I'm not sure how doing what you
mostly like doing can be a bore, but
yesterday was a bit boring. It mainly
involved photo editing, but I also did
some eating, and in the evening I watched
some moderately good TV instead of going
out. Not going out was a mix of feeling a
bit tired, and because it was raining. I
also had a big dinner, and that made
feeling tired even worse.
Much of yesterday, from late
morning to almost late afternoon, was
dominated by photo editing. Of course it
wasn't non stop. I took time out to eat,
read a few pages, and finally finish
washing the underpants that were blood
stained when the boil on my inner thigh
burst. I was very pleased that after
soaking almost 24 hours in bio detergent
all traces of the blood vanished.
The reason the photo editing took
so long was that I was trying to be
creative, or arty, or something. I was
doing lots of little touch up to make the
subjects stand out more in the rather
bland lighting at the Hell On Tap gig -
even my flash gun couldn't liven that up,
although it did brighten it up.
In this picture of Carrie and
Steve, Carrie originally was not as well
lit as Steve, and I think I managed to get
her looking bright enough so she didn't
seem to be in the shadow.
Getting the whole band in one shot
was not easy, and it took a bit of work to
get them all reasonably lit. It would have
helped if I could have stood back a bit
further from the band, or had a wider
angle lens. I did have my super wide
angle, fish eye lens with me, and I should
have tried it, but the picture would need
heavy cropping because there is so much
optical distortion on the outside of the
image.
One of the things I was trying to
do at Chain's gig was to make sure I got a
few good pictures of Chris. He is not so
photogenic as Jo, and for some unknown
reason his face often seems to come out
looking quite red under some lighting -
but only to the camera, and not to the
naked eye. There is a plug-in for my photo
editor specifically to "cure" red faces,
but it is not always effective.
Fortunately Chris didn't look too red in
this picture, and it is a good "man and
guitar" shot.
It is always nice to capture a nice
smile, and this one from Jo looks very
nice. I did enhance it by carefully
darkening the background so she stands out
more.
I think it was the intensity of
editing all the pictures - all 27 of them,
or about one in four pictures taken. It
did demand quite a lot of concentration at
times. I think it was the tiredness it
caused, plus the thought of doing it again
today if I had gone to the gig last night,
that was a significant reason why I didn't
go out. I had the chance of getting
pictures of two bands last night, but they
were in the same pub. It would have meant
hanging around a long time unless I had
known the correct time to arrive for the
last half hour of the first band, and then
the first hour of the second band.
I had probably made my mind up I
was not going well before it would have
been time to leave. Having made up my mind
i had a big(ish) dinner, and that sealed
my fate. It takes me hours of resting
before I fancy moving around after eating.
I say the meal was big-
ish, but the
bulk of it was just plain green salad
leaves. It was a sort of beef burger
salad, that included slices of onion
cooked under the burgers, and a sliced
large tomato.
The burgers were typical cheap and
nasty made to look good by being "smoky"
flavoured. They did go well with the ready
made blue cheese ketchup-like salad
dressing. I was in two minds about
including the tomato. They can contain a
lot of sugar, although the bigger the
tomato, the less sugar they seem to have
in them, and last nights was the size of a
small apple.
I had all that on top of what I
thought was going to be a big lunch. It
was the shepherds pie ready meal that I
had half cooked for to the previous day,
and fully cooked for yesterday's lunch. It
did look very big until you slid it out of
the big box it came in. It seemed to
shrink a bit when cooked. In the end it
seemed more like a large snack when I ate
it. I think the box suggested it might
feed two, but only with some added
vegetables and stuff to pad it out.
There were no Star Treks on last
night, but Sky Arts were showing a few
music related things. I first watched a
documentary about Genesis. It was
originally made by the BBC so it was quite
slick without being sensational, and I
have a fantasy feeling the production was
carefully timed to make it awkward for
other TV companies to slip in commercials.
I would applaud them if that was really
the case.
Of course Sky Arts lives by
commercials, and they are usually far too
keen to slip them in at any convenient
moment with no regard to anything like
every half hour, or worse, every 15
minutes. One of their biggest sins is a
commercial break between every song in a
concert. Oddly enough, they didn't seem to
do that when they showed a (much repeated)
Pink Floyd Concert after the Genesis
documentary.
I part watched, and part listened
to the Pink Floyd concert, and when it
ended it seemed like a good time for bed
(I think it was after 9pm, but before
10pm). I suspect some of it was repetitive
strain injuries from all the mouse work I
was doing as I edited my photos, but last
night was another night when too many bits
ached to relax properly to get to sleep.
Taking a couple of Paracetamol helped a
lot, but it does take nearly an hour
before it is effective. I was probably
asleep before then, but they still seemed
to improve my sleep.
One of last night's oddities is
that I woke up with a dry mouth now and
then, and i was swigging a lot of water to
rehydrate my mouth if nothing else.
Despite that I seemed to pee very little
during the night. it was all a little odd.
maybe I sweated some of that water out. I
do recall turning my pillow around once to
avoid a damp patch. I'm going to take a
chance by saying I seemed to get a pretty
fair night's sleep last night, but then
again I do remember dreaming a lot.
One dream was just a visit to a pub
with a friend (whose name I can't recall).
Of course when I say "just a visit" that
is only true as a simple description. In
reality lots of odd things happened on the
way, including drinking from a glass or
lager looking beer that I had difficulty
emptying. Even a big gulp hardly lowered
the level in the glass. It was difficult
emptying the glass before we went in what
presumably a second pub (on the assumption
that I got the beer from a pub before the
dream got going).
Another dream was a re-visit to
work at a site that was originally a big
factory, but subdivided into smaller
workshops. The dream kicked off with me
and a workmate going out to find who had
stolen the cooker from "our" kitchen. We
found it in another workshop, having seen
it through a window. The boss there said
it had been fitted by the sites
"facilities management", and that he would
take it up, along with my boss, with them
to sort it all out.
Meanwhile, as we walked back to our
workshop we passed an office style
cupboard seemingly dumped outside a
workshop with it's door left open. It was
all dusty inside, and some stuff had
fallen out onto the path and looked pretty
mucky. I noticed some pink, iridescent
embossing tape, and because I still have a
Dymo embossing printer I decided to grab a
couple of reels of this extremely rare
(and almost certainly non existent in the
real world) embossing tape. At that point
someone came out of the workshop and asked
why I was stealing it. He then said I
could buy two reels for £50. I told him,
with great emphasis, that I didn't need it
that badly. I woke up before we could
negotiate further.
I was very surprised, almost
stunned, when I checked my blood glucose
reading this morning. After all i ate, and
partly what I ate, I was expecting a
complete disaster. My old meter gave a
rather fantastic reading of just
7.6mmol/l, and the new meter gave a still
good, but not quite so low 8.2mmol/l.
Sometimes I think I don't know anything
about controlling my blood glucose level !
I feel a semi lazy day coming on.
It is still dry, but it is definitely very
dull outside now, and rain does seem quite
probable. A refresh of the weather
forecast web site now shows that the BBC
think it should be raining now and for the
next two hours, but only light rain. The
Met Office just want to get it all over at
once, and say heavy rain only for 11am. No
matter what actually happens, it does not
seem like a good morning to consider
outdoor activities. It is probable that it
will be dry, and maybe even sunny at 3pm
when I could be seeing an outdoor gig in
Beckenham Place Park, but I can't go to
that because I am expecting Jodie to come
over for some beer drinking this
afternoon.
