The weather seemed so bland yesterday
that it is hard to remember much about it. I
remember dull and bright periods, but I
can't put times on either. It was definitely
dry, and the temperature was not quite warm,
and not quite cool. The weather forecast
said the afternoon would be 20° C, and that
was probably right.
Both weather forecasters show
a similar forecast of sunny spells and
sunshine in the morning, and rain in the
evening. The latest revision says the rain
could now start, possibly only as drizzle,
at 6pm. The BBC, which shows more
sunshine, and says it will last almost
until the rain takes over, reckon this
afternoon could be 23° C, but the Met
Office say it might only be 22° C, and
that for as little as an hour or two.
Tomorrow may feature a lot of light rain,
and the temperature should still reach 21°
C.
Yesterday was one of those days
when I achieved very little. I seemed to
have little inspiration, and little
energy, although the latter is really an
unknown because I didn't do anything to
tax myself, and so be able to judge my
energy levels. I did eventually find a
possible reason for this, and I'll mention
it a bit later.
My plans to go to Aldi were
essentially scuppered by two things,
although I could have probably if I was
only suffering from just one of the two
things. The first, more important, and key
thing was that I started writing so late,
and with a fair amount to say, it was
almost midday when I finally put my pen
down (metaphorically speaking). It is
possible that one thing that slowed my
writing down was being distracted by
thoughts of what I might buy to eat in
Aldi.
At the conclusion of my writing I
had my usual little rest, and while doing
so I was not really resting my mind
because I was still considering food. What
I decided was that instead of going out to
buy more food I could make what turned out
to be some very tasty ham, lettuce and
mustard sandwiches. I made them with the
brown/wholemeal (possibly including rye
flour) bread with pumpkin seeds on it. The
first, which is all I planned to eat, was
so delicious that I used the last two
slices of bread for another identical
sandwich.
The only other thing of note,
besides making sandwiches, which I did
yesterday was some very simple photo
editing. I had done all the hard stuff the
day before. All I had to do was to crop
the edges of some of the pictures, and
then shrink the images down to fit on this
page. They were the second batch of photos
taken in and around the park on Sunday.
This robin was obviously not part
of the "Birds Of Prey" display in the
park. It was just sitting by the path as I
walked away from the park for some
refreshment. As soon as it saw me coming
it turned it's back on me, but stayed in
the same place.
I thought this choir practice,
taking place in the St Mary's Church
"Therapeutic Gardens" was something to do
with the church. In the few seconds that I
passed them I didn't hear any singing, and
so couldn't tell if they were singing
hymns. I would see them again, and they
weren't singing hymns then.
I took this picture while waiting
for the pub to open. I don't do any
intentional "bus spotting", but do take
the occasional snap. I particularly wanted
to take this snap because the 380 bus only
runs past here not in service, and I think
it usually displays that on the front
blind on it's way from Catford Bus
Garage. Quite why it was displaying
it's final destination, and route number,
while stopped at a bus stop it doesn't use
is a mystery. There was certainly no one
on board (except for the driver) when it
set off again and passed me 30 seconds or
so after taking this photo.
My camera was on and ready,
although the exposure level was a bit low,
when this police car came screaming up the
road with it's siren blaring, and it's
blue lights flashing. I have no idea where
it was going, or why it was going there,
but I couldn't resist the photo
opportunity.
I had to wait several minutes for
the horse and police rider to be free of
kids or other admirers. There were two
horses and riders, but the other still had
sticky fingered kids stuck to it. Apart
from standing there for some time so that
the the kids could look at them on this
special event day, they regularly do a
quick patrol of the park as part of their
daily exercise.
I saw the same choir I had seen
earlier, but this time they were on "the
live stage". I had my suspicions confirmed
that the so called stage would not be put
to any good use, but getting a good rock
covers band on, for instance. The choir,
who may have have droned on for hours for
all I know or care, were singing a sea
shanty when I passed by.
Yesterday I said I had a few better
pictures of the birds of prey, but for
some variety I have limited it to just one
to show here today. This is a pygmy falcon
(at least I think that is what the keeper
said) perched on a thick leather glove
worn by one of the kids. It was soon after
I took this shot that Jodie said she would
have liked to try it, but didn't fancy
putting on a glove that had had so many
dirty/sticky kids hands in it - and who
can blame her !
After a fairly quiet afternoon I
settled down to watch what turned out to
be five hours of TV. I did have an unused
plan to have a tasty dinner of bacon and
lettuce, maybe with tomato sauce to
emulate the famous BLT - Bacon, Lettuce
and Tomato. It would have taken little
effort to make it - the bacon could be
left in the mini oven/grill to cook
itself, and the lettuce was ready prepared
in a bag.
Unfortunately I was suckered in to
a 20% off deal (certain restaurants only)
from Just Eat. Once again my dinner was
takeaway shish kebabs. I thought I would
try "Lewisham Kebabs", and I did it
without consulting "Scores On The Doors"
to see how their hygiene was rated.
Fortunately it was very tasty, and didn't
have any ill effects, although it did have
a positive effect.
The usual blank space in my TV
viewing was filled by a new edition of
"Secrets Of The London Underground" with
the delectable Siddi, and the sadly camp
bloke explored bits of the Underground
rarely seen except by maintenance workers.
I enjoyed that, but enjoyed QI, which
followed, somewhat less. Despite having a
mostly lazy day I still started to feel
very tired as QI was coming to an end.
Once ended I quickly brushed my teeth,
went to bed an read for maybe 15 minutes
before falling into quite a deep sleep.
I would not have been surprised if
I had woken up for a pee a lot last night,
but this time maybe not because of a high
blood glucose level. It could have been
because I seemed to be quite thirsty, and
I put that down to two things. One was
that I suspect the shish kebabs were a bit
salty, and the other was that I had
started drinking glasses of Diet Coke
poured from an ice cold bottle straight
from the fridge. I enjoy even ice cold
water so much that I usually gulp a lot of
it down for the pure pleasure of it.
Even so, I still didn't wake to pee
more than maybe twice in the night, and
the reason was what had happened a few
hours before going to bed. In the morning
I am sure I mentioned that I didn't have a
morning poo, and that I didn't feel any
obvious discomfort because of it. Maybe I
did feel something that I identified as
the sort of tired, lethargic feeling that
too away and desire to do much yesterday.
I think it was around 8pm that I
went to the toilet, maybe initially just
for a pee, and then realised that things
were moving. Indeed they were, and quite a
lot of it. Less than five minutes after
leaving the toilet I was back there again,
and it was
very productive again.
I made it a very long visit to the toilet
so I could try and avoid having to make a
third trips. It seemed to work out well.
Perhaps being very empty was the
reason why I seemed to sleep a lot better
than usual last night. I probably almost
made up and lost sleep from recent nights.
It didn't stop me dreaming, although my
dreams seemed almost bland. They all
seemed to be about being among technicians
and extras on film sets. I was never sure
if i was a technician or extra, or just an
interested bystander.
In one dream they seemed to be
filming something in my house, and so on
that occasion I had a good reason to be
there. I never did see any filming taking
place, and that is because I am quite
aware there is very little glamour in
filming, and so much of the day is just
spent waiting as cameras, sound and
scenery are set up. In my last dream
I was in my dining room, although it
looked rather different to real life.
There was a lot of waiting going on, and I
said to one of the technicians (or
possibly an "extra") that I had dreamed
about hanging around on a film set the
previous night. he sarcastically said
"that must have been fascinating for you",
and I replied "no, it was very boring". He
gave me a knowing look and walked off.
I could almost have got up soon
after 5am this morning, but i tried for,
and got almost another hours sleep. Once I
was up I did the usual of checking my
blood glucose reading. I strongly
suspected that the two large ham and
lettuce sandwiches I had would have ruined
any chance of getting a good reading, but
maybe that "European" bread had no sugar
in it (unlike English breads), and hadn't
ruined my chances. It also made paying for
another shish kebab takeaway worth it when
my readings turned out to be nice and low
and very low. The new meter said
8.1mmol/l, and the old meter said a
brilliant 7.4mmol/l. 20 or 30 years ago,
when the NHS was very progressive I could
probably have made a good claim to get
kebabs on the NHS because they are so good
for my blood glucose level.
So far this morning I have not done
a poo, but it is still early-ish yet. I do
feel I will do something despite having a
mega clear out last night. I should
certainly feel OK for the one single thing
on my agenda for today. It's a Wednesday,
and that's the day for a lunchtime pint or
three of Guinness in The Jolly Farmers. I
may not do anything else today apart from
have a shave, shampoo and shower before
going out. I don't think I'll have time to
get to Aldi this morning, and after a few
pints I won't want to do it this
afternoon. I think I will get some cheese
and more "European" bread from the little
supermarket on Catford Bridge. That should
be all I need for today.
