All the rain forecast for yesterday
fell before 1pm, or thereabouts. The
afternoon was often bright with quite a lot
of sunny spells. At about 6pm most of the
sky seemed to be blue. There was a bit of
heavy-ish rain in the morning, and a
moderate shower at about 1pm. The
temperature later in the afternoon, perhaps
aided by the sunny spells, may have gone a
degree or two higher than the forecast 22°
C.
Instead of improving, the
latest revision to today's forecast
just paints an even worse picture. This
morning it is sunny, but not for much
longer. The latest revision is similar to
the early screenshot above. The main
change is nearly every bit of light rain
is now shown as heavy rain. Today's
temperature may only reach 18° C. The BBC
tells a slightly different story with the
temperature possibly a degree or two
higher. They also think the rain will be
lighter for much of the time, but at 6pm
they predict a thunderstorm. Tomorrow may
be mostly dry apart from a couple of hours
of light rain (Met Office) or moderately
wet with drizzle in the morning, and light
rain in the afternoon (BBC). both
forecasters agree on an afternoon high of
21° C.
It would have been more exciting to
go out to Chattfest yesterday, but that
has been postponed to August on the
assumption that the weather will be better
then - I have my doubts. I still managed
to do a couple of useful things during the
day, and I don't think I was ever bored,
although from time to time I expected to
be.
I must admit I felt no rush to do
anything yesterday, and I certainly didn't
rush washing my hair, and having a shower.
That involved a slight novelty. The
previous time I washed my hair (on
Wednesday) I finished off a bottle of
conditioner, but I still had a small
amount of shampoo left. They were matched
"flavours", but didn't match the next pair
I used today. I decided to use the last of
the shampoo as shower gel. It seemed to
work OK - as far as I could tell.
After drying my hair I got dressed
and went out to buy some stuff from
Poundstretcher. There were a few things I
wanted to but, and of course there was
other stuff I noticed that I grabbed
before
in case it sold out. I was particularly
after sticking plaster strip to protect my
bunions when walking in some shoes. I also
wanted a wrist support thing for my right
wrist that starts to ache when I do too
much work using my computer mouse. I also
wanted some special soft drinks.
The Dark Berry drink I really like,
bit only as an occasional drink. Soon
after I discovered it they ran out of
stock. Now I grab 4 cans (or even 6 on one
occasion).Today I noticed the Paradise
Punch. it is sort of nice, but despite
apparently being sugar free, it tastes too
sweet for my tastes these days. I only
bought two cans of it today, although I
might buy more to keep for those odd
occasions when it might seem like a good
idea.
It was bright enough to wear my
sunglasses when I walked to
Poundstretcher, but the weather changed a
lot while I was shopping. It got very dark
- dark enough to trigger the automatic
lights on the road sign in the picture
above. As I took this picture I could feel
some fine rain. It seemed to get heavier,
but still almost ignorable as I hurried
home. Once home there was a short burst of
moderately heavy rain that lasted no more
than a few minutes.
After getting home, and changing
into indoor "slouching" clothes I stopped
to have a bite to eat. I didn't eat
anything I had bought in Poundstretcher,
or in Aldi when I went there the day
before. I ate a couple of so called salad
pots.
I have mentioned these many times
in the past, and even showed a picture of
the label (I think), but I have never
shown exactly what I have eaten on any
occasion except this time. I have even
included the pots themselves plus a ruler
to give some idea of the scale. This time
I paid particular attention to the sugar
content because I have had reason to
suspect they are not always as healthy as
they might seem.
The Puy Lentils with fluffy
couscous are fine. They have about 1.4gm
of sugar per pot. The Tabouli is not so
good. It has 4.59gm of sugar per pot, and
that is a bit high for my tastes. Both
pots list sugar as an ingredient, and I
wonder why it is needed. I can't think of
any reason to sweeten food like this. It
still made for a nice snack/lunch, but I
wish I had left it a bit later.
One thing I did after I ate, which
would have been easier to do before
eating, was a bit of laundry. bending over
the bath, pounding clothes in a big bucket
of detergent is a good way to get
indigestion. Fortunately I didn't get
indigestion, but I was very aware that
bending over with even a slightly full
stomach is a bit uncomfortable. Anyway, I
did it, and washed just two items - a hand
towel, and a long sleeved thick sweat
shirt sort of thing. Once dried, which
will probably be overnight on the
clothes horse, it will be clean and ready
to wear on cold winter mornings like I did
last winter.
With all my chores done I could
relax/be blood lazy. Later in the
afternoon I watched another James Bond/007
film on one of the ITV channels. The Film
was "
The
Living Daylights" with Timothy
Dalton playing James Bond. It wasn't one
of the better films in the franchise, but
it passed the time OK. After it finished I
looked for something else to watch, and I
found
The
Terrornauts listed as a British
SciFi film. It was definitely worth
watching even if the special effects were
done with baling wire and, old fairly
liquid bottles and sticky backed plastic.
Even the "star" actor made it amusing. It
was Charles Hawtry still playing a sort of
effeminate character as he did in the
Carry On films.
I meant to mention a few
paragraphs up that I had my dinner while
watching the Bond movie. it was a lot of
Aldi "southern fried chicken" cooked, as
recommended in the oven. I gave it a good
sprinkle of pepper to make it taste a
little more authentic, and it was sort of
very nice, but somehow not nice. That is
difficult to explain.....let's just say I
enjoyed it, but not as much as that bought
from a fried chicken shop.
After The Terrornauts film there
was nothing else to amuse me on TV, and so
I've sat down to write this. I'll continue
it tomorrow morning with a description of
my night, and the usual stuff I write
about the morning.......
One thing I didn't mention before
is that I was washing down my dinner with
chilled cans of Guinness. That lead to
something I am not proud of. It was gone
10pm, but before 11pm when I felt so tired
that I went to bed and left half a glass
of Guinness undrunk ! I just couldn't seem
to drink any more of my fourth can. I was
feeling a bit full when I went to bed, but
it didn't seem to take long to go sleep -
and to wake up again.
I think I only managed a little
over an hour before I woke up needing a
pee - which I guess is not surprising
after three and a half (440ml) cans of
Guinness. It was a little past 2am when I
woke up, and as well as needing a pee, I
thought I might need a poo too. It did
involve a few farts, but nothing more. I
think after that, despite nothing
significant happening, I seemed to sleep
better.
I can't work out if it was one or
two dreams I remember fragments of. One
remembered fragment was being at work in a
place near a fork of two railway lines. I
could only see a fragment of one branch in
the distance, but the other branch ran
just the other side of the boundary fence
of the place of work. I can remember
seeing some interesting stuff pass, but I
could never get my mobile phone camera
out, and and ready to use in time to get
any snaps.
It could have been that frustration
that leaked into another dream. In that
dream I had found a Nikon camera. I think
it was just lying by the side of the road.
It didn't have a memory card in it, or a
battery. I was hoping that I had a battery
that fit without having to order on so I
could test it. It seemed in good
condition, and had a basic lens on it. My
description makes it sound like the dream
lasted for quite a time, but I think all I
described happened in just a second or
two, and I can't remember any more.
It was just after 6am when I got
up. I went to the toilet first, and did a
very small poo. I am sure there will be
more to come a bit later. Then I checked
my blood glucose reading. Although the
Aldi southern fried flavour coated
chicken claimed to have a low sugar
content, I believe the figure quoted was
for a considerably smaller portion than I
consumed - probably per 100gm. I was not
expecting a low blood glucose reading this
morning.
The new meter said 9.4mmol/l, and
that is higher than I am happy with, but
at least it is comfortably under the red
line (10.0mmol/l). However, the old meter
said 8.7mmol/l, and that is an
unremarkable figure, and very close to my
running average for most months. It's hard
to say on that basis whether I am doing
good or bad, but I will try and do a bit
better tomorrow by trying to control my
eating a bit better.
Two things could happen today. The
first is to go to Poundland. Now there was
a very good reason what I want to go to
Poundland, and I thought of it yesterday,
but I can't remember what it was now. I
hope that I'll either remember what it was
before I go, or just spot what it was on
the shelves. The second thing is that
Jodie should be coming over for a beer
tasting session this afternoon. That
should happen provided Jodie is not late,
and the rain has started in earnest before
she leaves home !
