After a sunny start, yesterday turned
out just as wet as predicted. There was some
light rain at midday, and after a 20 or 30
dry minute the rain returned as heavy rain.
I think most of the rain was just drizzle,
with more short periods of heavy rain every
now and then. The afternoon temperature
seemed quite warm, and humid, but the
thermometers said 22 or maybe 23° C.
It seems that today might be
the first dry day for some days, although
most of the day will be mildly dull. Some
sunny spells are expected in the early
evening, but the latest revision shows
them only for 5 and 8pm. There is still a
10% chance of rain up to 4pm, and so it is
still possible it might rain, but
hopefully not. The temperature will not
change much during the day, and most of it
will be 20° C. It is worth noting that The
BBC think there will be light rain
between 3 and 5pm. Tomorrow should be dry
again, and with a scattering of sunny
spells. It will be be a little bit warmer
with 22° C expected.
Yesterday was one of those days
that was both good and bad. The bad was
mainly eating quite unwisely in the early
evening as a result of booze. I was also
very lazy, and did go for a shower until
just after 11am despite doing nothing more
than laying on my bed reading and snoozing
for an hour beforehand.
Once I was washed and dressed I
went shopping in Poundland (or more often
two poundland, or more, these days). That
was as predicted in the morning. I still
can't remember what the original reason
for wanting to go there was, but as
suspected, I still walked out with a bag
of stuff. I think maybe I was hoping to
find some strawberry flavour shampoo and
conditioner, but I had to make do with
raspberry flavour.
One thing I was keeping an eye out
for was Gullom sugar free biscuits. They
have had them in there before, and they
did have some yesterday, but not the type
I wanted. I did buy a packet of sugar free
digestives, but for some reason I have
this idea they don't taste nice. I also
bought a couple of so called "skinny" bars
- low calorie bars of rice crispies stuck
together with something very syrupy, and a
layer of some sort of chocolate. They are
low in sugar if eaten in tiny quantities -
i.e. barely enough to fill the cavity in a
tooth !
There was some very light rain when
I walked to Poundland, but it was
completely dry when I walked home.
However, like a lot of today, it was quite
dull. once home I had some lunch, but I
can't seem to recall what it was. I feel
sure some of it was more substantial than
a so called low calorie chew bar thing. I
was partly distracted from eating by
starting some laundry. It was just a
couple of t-shirts and some underwear. I
got as far as one session in detergent,
and two rinses before I got part bored,
and partly a bit tired.
About an hour later Jodie turned up
for our Sunday afternoon beer tasting
session. As usual it was slightly boring
as Jodie spent half the time looking at
her phone, and typing stuff on it. Also as
usual she is having trouble with her
phone. I must admit she hasn't complained
about it for quite a long time now, but as
many times in the past, she has filled her
phone up with some much that she has to
delete a few pictures to take new
pictures, and some of her beloved games
won't update.
I did try and decant all the
pictures on the memory card in her phone.
I have a backup disk, and a back up for
that for her pictures, but this time there
was such a dense pile of stuff on the
phones memory card that I couldn't see it
on my PC. I suggested that Jodie might get
a new, and much bigger memory card, but
for some unknown reason the idea seemed to
horrify her !
One bit of "excitement".....well it
was better than waiting for Jodie to do
something else on her phone, was ordering
some more beers. Jodie saw that some
people were drinking some beers from the
Ukraine Varvar brewery, and they had come
from an importer called (believe it or
not)
https://www.tremblingmadness.co.uk/.
We, or should I say I (because it was done
in my name using my credit card) ordered
just over £90 worth of beer that it seems
could be delivered as early as Monday, but
Tuesday is more likely.
After Jodie left I started my
dinner. It was a very simple ham salad -
basically just salad leaves with a
balsamic dressing and some ham. it was so
basic that I put together another simple
salad. It was just salad leaves with some
mayo and cheese. After that I really
sealed the fate of my morning blood
glucose reading by eating three so called
healthy chewy bars.
There was a bit of entertainment on
TV last night. I can't remember which
channel it was, but they were showing "
Jules
Verne Rocket To The Moon". It was a
comedy film,
loosely based, on the
book of the same name. There were a few
well known faces in it, including the
famous gap-toothed Terry Thomas. It was
crap, but enjoyable at the same time. I
don't think I'll add it to my small
collection of British SciFi films because
SciFi took a back seat to farce and comedy
in it.
When the film ended I turned over
to watch a Sandy Tokstig QI, and that was
followed by an edition of Have I got News
For You. Finally, at 10pm, or maybe just a
bit later I went to bed. It took very
little time to get to sleep, and I slept
for long periods between waking up several
times. The odd thing is that I expected to
be waking up every hour after drinking
beer earlier, and eating stuff I thought
would make my blood glucose very high, but
it seemed I didn't pee in the night very
much at all.
I can remember waking up sometime
around 1am, and think I had just had a
rather interesting dream, but I now have
no idea what it was about. I do remember a
dream I had shortly before waking up this
morning. It was another dream set in a
technical college, or training school
housed in a long, 4 storey building with 4
stair cases. I was trying to leave, but
couldn't remember what stair cases to use.
Two of them didn't go down to the ground
floor. The first one I tried didn't go
down the the ground floor, and neither did
the second, but it did have a quirk.
At the bottom of it there was
another staircase that went up for a short
distance to a doorway. The doorway opened
out to a flat roof. That had no obvious
other way down, but along one bordering
wall was an archway, and that opened to
the interior of a railway station where I
could get my train home. I don't think I
remember anything after reaching the
station, and maybe that was a good time to
wake up.
This morning, after eating several
chewy bars with a seemingly fair amount of
sugar in them, plus some other stuff with
sugar in it, including one of the beers I
drank, I fully expected my blood glucose
to be in the danger zone. It wasn't ! The
new meter read 8.6mmo/l, and that is
almost exactly my monthly average, and
nothing to worry about. The old meter read
9.1mmol/l, and I guess that is not much
higher than the new meter reading, but I
don't like any read that starts with a 9 -
I like some clear breathing space under
the danger level above 10.0mmol/l. Overall
I am very surprised I got away with it
yesterday. On the other hand I do seem to
feel moderately good this morning, and
being well, or the closest I get to it
these days, always lowers my blood
glucose.
I have no firm ideas of what I
might do today - except for one thing. I
have a bucket of half washed laundry that
needs another rinse, and then fabric
conditioner before hanging it up to dry -
possibly on the washing line if it really
is going to be dry today. I could
potentially go for a walk today, but being
dry is not enough, and it would be far
more enjoyable if it was bright and sunny.
There is a microscopic chance that the
beer I ordered yesterday could be
delivered today. it was supposed to be
next day delivery, and it seems that they
were boxing it up at just gone 5pm last
night. I doubt they could get it to a
Parcelforce depot last night, and so it is
far more likely it will be delivered
tomorrow - which would possibly be a
better day to go out !
There is one thing I might get
started today. It is to build a new server
for these web pages. The current server
has been using an old laptop for many
months now, and it is working well -
except for one annoyance. I could probably
change something to stop it happening, but
like all laptops with a conventional
(spinning rust) hard drive, it turns it
off to save power when unused for about 15
minutes. The only time I notice it is when
uploading text and pictures to it. It
seems to take ages (but really maybe no
more than 90 seconds for the hard disk to
spin up and accept data. I've decided I am
going to use a spare Dell desktop PC for
the new server. It was originally going to
be my new desktop PC, but despite having a
slightly better processor, it lacks
connectivity. It only has two sata ports -
one for a hard disk, and one for a CD/DVD
drive. It also has fewer USB ports. I can
get something better than that, quite
cheaply, when I want to upgrade my main
PC.
