Yesterday could be described as
a rather bland day. Originally a lot of rain
was forecast for the middle of the day, and
none was forecast for the morning, and yet
there was some light rain in the morning,
and possibly none in the afternoon. I'm
desperately trying to be optimistic when I
say
I remember a sunny spell
or two - none were forecast. The temperature
only reached 16° C, and yet it didn't seem
to feel any worse than mildly cool.
The early version of the forecast
said this morning would not feature rain.
That was obviously wrong because the road
outside was wet when I opened the curtains
soon after 7am. The latest revision to the
forecast shows heavy rain for 9 and 10am.
That might be followed by 4 hours of white
cloud, and then two hours of sunny spells
for 3 and 4pm. From 5pm there could be
three hours of light rain. After such a
drastic change to the forecast in just a
couple of hours, it is almost certain that
the forecasters don't have a clue, and
later forecasts will show more drastic
changes. The temperature forecast is
usually correct, and so today should see
22° C this afternoon. Tomorrow might start
a bit grey, but later there could be a
scattering of sunny spells. The
temperature probably will rise to 23° C.
I felt really tired
yesterday. I guess I have been burning the
candle from both ends recently. I still
had a lot of things to do, but I adopted a
very lazy mode for some chunks of
yesterday. I was interrupted a lot by
Patricia as I was writing this diary/blog
thing yesterday, but that was just about
OK.
Although I have seen little of
Patricia during the middle of the day, and
apart from last night, until fairly late
in the evening, but it has been nice
having Patricia staying here. In reality
it was a good and sort of bad thing. The
bad was just a disruption of my routine,
but that is not set in stone, and in the
words of 7 of 9 (from Star Trek:Voyager)
"I will/did adapt". Yesterday was
Patricia's last day here, but she still
went out around 11am to meet har sister
and son in law for a visit to Greenwich
and to the Greenwich Observatory (now with
a planetarium).
When I finally finished writing,
which was after Patricia had gone out, I
had plenty to do, but I laid on my bed,
tried to read for a bit, but had a snooze
that may have lasted around half an hour.
What I should have done next was to have a
shower, but I decided a flannel wash a bit
later would be sufficient because I hadn't
really done anything that would have got
me too stinky since my last shower. What I
did instead was to wash a white hand
towel, and a single pale blue t-shirt. I
had to dry them on the small clothes horse
in the front room (with a desk fan blowing
on them).
One relatively simple task that I
did next was to rearrange the dining room
table from an eating table to a drinking
table. Although Jodie is (possibly) out of
the country again, I still was going to
have a few beers with Michael. I still had
a few hours to go before that, and managed
to knuckle down and got back to photo
editing the snaps I took at Chatt fest
last Sunday. The first band on was Chain,
and maybe it was because the sun was out,
and I didn't have to play around with the
camera settings, almost all the pictures I
took were very usable. I had to reject a
lot for the sake of some variety.
I didn't finish the photo album
before I had to stop because it was time
for drinking. As usual, Michael was
talking non stop, often moaning about this
that and the other. Later on Patricia
arrived. She said she expected to arrive a
lot earlier than the three previous days.
I wanted Michael and her to meet, and they
did. They both seemed to like each other,
but they are both gas bags, and I barely
got a word in edgewise.
After Michael left Patricia turned
down the offer of dinner because it was
not so long ago that she had been eating
McDonalds with her sister and son in law.
She went up to the spare bedroom to pack,
and I had to eat what was going to be her
dinner. It was a Tesco spaghetti carbonara
ready meal, and it had quite a high sugar
content. Not only that but I didn't even
enjoy it. I am not a great fan of pasta,
although I used to cook a lot of a recipe
I invented myself of pasta with tuna and
sliced bell peppers with some tomato purée
- and I enjoyed it. It was modestly low
calorie, and in those days I was not too
worried about sugar content.
During, and after eating I
watched some Star Treks. During commercial
breaks I would either talk to Patricia or
edit another photo. I can't seem to
remember what time Patricia left, but I
think she might have been aiming for the
6.57pm train to London Bridge. From there
she would get a fast train down to Croydon
where she was going to stay in a cheap
hotel until the early hours of the morning
when she would return to East Croydon
station for a train to Gatwick Airport. I
have heard from her yet, and I hope she
managed to get her plane with no delays
caused by the air traffic control system
that crashed just after she arrived here
on Monday.
I continued watching TV, and photo
editing in the commercial breaks. By the
end of UFO, at 9pm, I had a bakers dozen
(13) photos ready for a small photo album.
I still have loads of snaps of Chain to
consider, and it is my intention to go
back to them after I have finished with
the other bands, which might take a few
days yet. It was probably not long after
10pm when I went to bed. As much as I
liked it when Patricia was here, it was
nice to be able to to go and brush my
teeth, and have a final pee, dressed only
in underpants. It was also nice not to
have to creep to the bathroom in the
night, and I didn't have to worry about
coughing, belching, or farting in the
night, worrying that I might wake Patricia
up.
I think I slept OK, but there was
at least one time when I stayed awake for
10 to 20 minutes after going back to bed
after a pee. It was good that I didn't
seem to wake up just a bit too early to
get up. I think it was almost 6.30am
before I woke up and got up. My dreams
last night all seemed, or at least all I
remember some fragments about, were all
variations on one rather odd bit of dream.
In the "main" dream I dreamed that
I was trying, or maybe helping to, get a
couple of rare flowers to grow. They were
unique in that the flower head would move
(albeit very, very slowly) to pollinate
itself by brushing against a male flower
head. We didn't have a male flower head,
and so we made a very poor replica out of
some cardboard cut from an Amazon delivery
box. It would have taken too long to see
anything happen during the dream, and
several subsequent dreams that used that
dream as an inspiration.
My lunch, yesterday, was a couple
of cheese and tomato sandwiches. They were
basically the same as I had had the day
before with no negative effects. I can't
blame them for very bad blood glucose
readings, and so all the blame falls on
that Tesco ready meal. This morning I got
two very similar, and very bad readings of
9.4mmol/ and 9.6mmol/l. This means I
should pay very close attention to what I
eat today. Lunch will probably be a couple
of (hopefully) safe sandwiches made with
very low sugar Romanian bread, and
possibly something like ham.
Dinner, which I started off in the
slow cooker soon after getting up (but
after knowing my blood glucose readings)
would be very safe except for one thing. I
have three unopened bags of different
pastas that have been in the cupboard for
years. To my great surprise, the only one
I checked was still just about in date. I
decided I would chance a small amount to
bulk out a chicken and cabbage casserole
(plus assorted spices and herbs).
There are tow things I will fairly
certainly do today. One is to wash some
more t-shirts and underwear. The other is
to go shopping primarily in Savers. I will
soon be needing more cod liver oil
capsules plus a few vitamins. I am also
hoping they will have new stock of nice
smelling toilet cleaners. The blue
"marine" variants sometimes seem to cross
the line between fresh and nasty. Some
more "Bloo" floral scented toilet cleaner
would be good. Once I've been in savers I
will do my usual and cross over the
pedestrian walkway to have a rummage in
Poundstretcher.
Of course the main job today will
be lots and lots of photo editing. I must
admit that as much as I like the heaps of
"likes" I am getting on social media, I am
getting a bit sick of photo editing. I
will definitely going to try and get
another band or two done today, but I am
going to take frequent breaks for a rest,
and occasionally for a snooze too.
Speaking of pictures..
The nice sunshine was enough to
bring out a smile on everyone's lips, and
it was great for photography - like this
picture of Jo and Steve.
Here's Chris with the rest of Chain
in the background. It was because of the
stupid pillar down the middle of the front
of the stage that, with a bit of patience,
it was often easier to get all the members
of the band in one photo by taking a
picture from the side.
Here's the view from the front of
the stage with that stupid pillar getting
in the way. I know people were saying it
was annoying even when they weren't taking
pictures like I was.
Despite having so many pictures to
go through - about 800 at a very rough
count - that I haven't a moment to spare,
but I was tempted to do a very quick and
simple train journey to take more tonight.
The B Movie Creatures are playing in the
The Railway Tavern, just outside West
Wickham station tonight. Thanks to a rail
strike I have been saved from going and
generating an even bigger backlog of
photos !
