Yesterday was another hot, but
not very sunny day. The met Office, and not
the BBC got the forecast about right. They
predicted it would be a cloudy day with
occasional sunny spells, and that was how it
was. Despite little sunshine the temperature
still rose to 29° C. It almost felt
cooler than the day before, but the humidity
left my skin feeling very damp and sticky.
There might be an odd hour when
there are only sunny spells, but most of
today will feature full sunshine. It could
drive the temperature up to 31, or 32° C.
Tomorrow could also see 31° C, but at the
moment it is forecast to be a very
different day. The morning may be bright
and sunny, but a thunderstorm is possible
at midday. The afternoon may be a bit
dull. On the other hand, the BBC say
tomorrow will feature sunshine all day
with temperature peaking at 31° C.
With my bedroom still about
27° C from the previous day's heat, and
the outside temperature predicted to rise
to 29° C, I was once again in the mood to
take the day cool and easy. That didn't
fully happen, and I did do some useful
work in between quietly reading and
snoozing.
One very important thing I did was
rather hot work. It was to finish hand
washing some t-shirts, underwear, and also
a couple of face flannels that had been
soaking in detergent overnight. It was
rather hot work, and I think I ended up
wetter than the wrung out clothes did. I
could have dried them outside, but opted
to dry them on the clothes horse indoors.
The reason was they all fitted on the
clothes horse with a little room to spare.
There was also a second reason. It's
September, the month of the spider. I had
to remove a large web part suspended from
the washing line, and I feel sure that by
the time my stuff was dry it would be
festooned by spider webs !#
The other significant job I did was
to finally finish the photo album of
Crosstown Revival, the headline band at
Chattfest on Sunday 27th August.
Being on last they didn't finish until
after sunset. The stage lighting was very
basic, and it relied on natural
illumination at the front. The last
pictures I took just looked too muddy to
use, and I scrapped them. I still ended up
with nearly 30 mostly decent pictures.
There were a few good ones of Angela's
husband to be, but she didn't bother to
like them.
There was one other job that was
important that I nearly forgot, and it was
to clear the sink and side board of
washing up. I did the whole lot, and then
started making a tiny bit more work by
preparing and cooking my dinner. It was
the sort of thing - diced beef with
broccoli and cauliflower - which I could
have done in the slow cooker. I don't
think it lacked anything for doing it in
the microwave - except having to wash the
very heavy ceramic pot used in the slow
cooker.
I must admit, having to manhandle
that very heavy pot has slightly put me
off using the slow cooker. That is not to
say that I won't be using it in the
future. I can imagine slow cooking some
winter dinners for instance. Cooking my
dinner in the microwave had several steps.
15 minutes to get the beef almost cooked.
10 minutes, sometime later, to help
tenderise the beef. Then 10 minutes,
shortly before dinner time, to cook the
vegetables.
When I look back I can't seem to
remember eating anything that I would call
lunch. I do recall several small snacks,
and mostly while I was photo editing
because a snack breaks up the time, and
rests the eyes. I had three quarters of a
bag of the micro chipsticks that seem to
have almost no sugar involved with them. i
had a couple of chunks of cheese, and a
handful of salted peanuts. I probably had
something else, but I can't remember what.
I am wondering how much I slept
yesterday. I think I had a couple of
snoozes - one in the morning, and one in
the afternoon. What I am actually
wondering is how the day seemed to go so
quickly. At about 7pm I ate my dinner
while watching one of the Star Treks. I
followed that by watching UFO. That
finished at 9pm, and after brushing my
teeth I went straight to bed. I read in
bed for maybe half an hour, and then had
no difficulty getting to sleep.
I did wake up every couple of hours
during the night, or at least that is how
it seemed, but on reflection I think it
was sometimes after 3 or more hours sleep.
To help me sleep I had the fan on all
night, and I was drinking lots of chilled
water. of course all that chilled water
would account for the amount of times i
got up for a pee. Like the previous night
I can remember dreaming a lot, but unlike
the previous night I remember some of a
dream.
I can imagine a psychoanalyst could
draw lots of exciting conclusions from
this bit of dream I can still just about
remember. In the dream I was at a
technical college, but it could have been
a university (although I have no personal
experience of university). I finished
attending a class at the end of the day,
and then there was the equivalent of an
edit in a movie, and I was there the next
morning looking for my class. I couldn't
remember what room it was in, nor who was
the teacher/lecturer. I was wandering
around the corridors on several floors
trying to see if I recognized anything.
It was probably good that I woke up
before it all got too frustrating. It is
no surprise that I woke up because it was
almost 6.45am - a fair bit later than I
usually get up. Once I had been to the
toilet, only a pee unfortunately, I
checked my blood glucose readings. The
series of good readings continues.... The
new meter gave the highest reading this
time. It said 8.3mmol/l. That is below my
typical average, and so is good. The old
meter was even better. It read 7.7mmol/l,
and I regard any reading starting 7 as
very good.
Today is the sort of day where I
ought to go and frolic in the sunshine,
but once again I don't think I fancy it
despite my best walks have always been
done in the hottest days of the year. I
guess it is still possible. One thing I am
definitely going to do, because I feel
yucky, is to trim my beard, shave the non
bear areas, shampoo and condition my hair,
and have a shower. I doubt I will be able
to dry myself in this weather, and maybe I
won't even bother to dry myself.
If a shower under warm, but not hot
water doesn't make me feel too hot, what I
intend to do next almost certainly will. I
think it is high time I washed my bath
towel. It is not smelly, but after a lot
of use it seems to accumulate soap from
any bit of me I haven't thoroughly rinsed
off. It means multiple rinses after
washing it to try and get the rinse water
not frothy. I'll probably wash a couple of
white t-shirts at the same time. Maybe I
will spend the afternoon quietly steaming
on my bed, reading and snoozing.
