Yesterday was another hot and
sunny day. The late afternoon temperature
reached 31° C.
There is quite a strong difference
of opinion about what today's weather will
be. The BBC say today will feature sunrise
to sunset strong sunshine. The early
version of The Met Office's forecast is
shown above. The next hourly revision
reduced the sunny spells, but the very
latest revision shows sunny spells for the
whole day. At the moment there is a lot of
cloud to be seen, and I am not sure if
there has been any sunshine yet. The Met
Office forecast 29° C today, and the BBC
say 30° C. Both forecasters
currently agree that tomorrow is going to
be very hot and sunny. The temperature
could touch 32° C in the late afternoon.
Yesterday morning I
complained of feeling something like, but
not quite, tired or weary. With hindsight
I think it was just the building heat that
slowed me down. I can feel the same this
morning. However, I did manage to do a few
much needed chores yesterday.
Maybe the most important chore was
to empty all the assorted rubbish bins
around the house. The small bin next to
the washbasin in the bathroom has long
needed emptying. For quite a long time I
was part emptying it by getting things
like shampoo and shower gel bottles out,
and taking them down to the recycling bin.
I did that yesterday too, but I also
emptied everything else out as well.
I emptied the very full bin on the
landing, outside my bedroom, the bib in
the dining room, and the bin in the
kitchen. The latter got a good spraying
with spray Domestos as well because it was
getting a bit whiffy ! I also emptied the
bin for recyclables in the kitchen as
well. Now I think about it, I didn't do
much more than that apart from a limited
amount of washing up - but I still left
half a sink full of stuff to be washed.
At some point I found time for a
snooze, and it may have been before I had
a shower. One other thing I did was to try
and find a half dozen or more demo tapes
sent to me or the radio station in the
early 1990s. Michael is always going
on about how he likes all music, and I
thought I would test him. Upon hearing
some of those tapes for the first time in
20 (?) years, I found they all sounded
basically OK. Maybe some of them were
ahead of their time, or maybe modern "pop"
music is so dire, so autotuned, and other
electronica designed to turn a sows ear
into a silk purse, that anything is
better.
I was very surprised when Jodie
turned up yesterday afternoon. She has
been going to so many gigs or festivals
lately that I lose track of her
plans. The unfortunate thing was
that I had not bought any "exotic" beers
for ages, and there was only a small
amount in the fridge, but we ended up
having a fair selection. Michael brought a
few beers over that were very common, but
we had sort of arranged that, with Jodie
not expected, we would just have a
drinking session of beer we liked. I put 5
or 6 cans of Guinness in the fridge, but
only drank two of them.
I hadn't prepared any dinner for
last night, and after Michael and Jodie
left I decided I would splash out on yet
another takeaway. I felt almost justified
in doing so because yesterday morning I
had my gas and electric bills arrive. I
was in credit for both of them. The
electric had enough credit that it should
pay for having a heater on for a few
minutes in December !
It was the booze affecting me, but
my takeaway order was for two
small
shish kebabs plus a standard portion of
"lamb meat and chips". The latter was, of
course, very unhealthy, but it was
extremely nice. It could also have been
all I needed to eat if I was feeling 150%
in control of myself - which I wasn't. One
thing that didn't help was that I can't
recall eating any lunch yesterday. I think
I was pouring the booze on a part empty
stomach !
My kebab dinner featured some hot
chilli sauce, and that brought on a good
sweat on top of the one I already had. It
was 31° C in my bedroom last night - and
very sticky ! I ate my dinner watching
Star Trek. After Star Trek: Voyager, which
was another tedious episode, I didn't
fancy watching any more TV. That was at
8pm. By 8.22pm I had tidied up a bit, and
brushed my teeth. I went to bed to read,
but I didn't read for long. I can't be
sure, but I think I was fast asleep by
about 8.45pm. That is the earliest for
some time, but it was all made easier by
it being fully dark outside even before I
went to bed.
I took 3 chilled, and 3 partly
frozen bottles of water, in my cool box,
to bed with me (but obviously not in my
bed !). They didn't stay cool for long
once out of the cool box, but I had enough
for drinks of cold water every time I woke
up in the night. I think I probably woke
every 2 or 3 hours, but the good thing is
that it was quick and easy to get back to
sleep again. I'm not sure it was good
sleep. Maybe it was, or maybe it was poor
sleep because of the interruptions.
It was another night when I can almost
remember tiny fragments of many dreams,
but nothing coherent enough to describe.
I thought the "lamb meat with
chips" would be very bad for my blood
glucose readings this morning. It did
indeed make them higher, but only slightly
higher. The new meter read a very slightly
lower than average 8.4mmol/l, and the old
meter a very slightly above average
8.8mmol/l. Both readings were perfectly
acceptable. I wonder if I can plan
my eating, and stick to the plan, to keep
tomorrow's reading as low, or ideally
lower than this morning.
I have very few plans for today,
and the biggest, and most likely plan, is
to be very lazy and keep cool. I have a
feeling that today could be very humid.
The sun is shining now, but a lot of the
sky is still a milky white colour, and
that suggests only sunny spells today. If
I was in the right mood it could probably
be a good day for a walk, but I don't
fancy it. About the only concrete thing I
expect to do today is to finish washing
some stuff that I left in soak overnight.
I need to do it if I am to have a shower
today.
It is not a great picture, but this
is the hot and shagged out pigeon I
mentioned taking a snap of while on my way
to the pub on Wednesday. The bricks on
that wall must have been roasting hot if
the sun had been on them, but they were
partly shaded compared to the blinding
light of the background. I think the view
was a lot better in real life, and my
photograph is a waste of time, but having
mentioned it, I thought I would show it.
