A lot of yesterday was mildly grey. At 4pm it actually looked like it might rain, and the BBC weather forecast page hastily scribbled in a 34% chance of rain for 4pm. It stayed dry. Most of the sunshine was in the morning, and in the last couple of hours before sunset. Maybe it was the lack of sunshine, or maybe the hot plume of air, that has brought some very high temperatures, is now moving on, but I don't think it quite reached the first forecast of 30° C, but it did seem to reach the later forecast of 29° C. It may have only been a difference of one degree, but it did feel a bit fresher yesterday (except in my bedroom where it was 30° C most of the day).
the start of
                                    cooler weather
The sky is still light grey, and the latest revision to the forecast now shows 9am as white cloud , although as I look out the window I see light grey still. The BBC forecast happily shows loads of sunshine, and the temperature rising to 26° C. The Met Office is a bit more realistic (probably), and shows just some sunny spells this morning, and in the early evening. It says today's maximum temperature may be just 24° C. At any other time that could feel warm, but after days of 30° C it will almost feel cold. Tomorrow may feature some sunny spells in the morning, but rain is forecast from mid afternoon. It may only reach 22° C tomorrow. The BBC agree with the sunny spells in the morning, and an afternoon at 22° C, but throw in a few of their beloved thunderstorms for mid afternoon.

I finally finished washing the bath towel, and two white t-shirts yesterday, but I split the job into two parts mid wash because it was obvious the towel would need many more rinses than the t-shirts. I did the t-shirts separately, and had them hanging up to dry. I then had a 20 minute break before giving the bath towel another 5 or 6 rinses before hanging it on the clothes horse to dry. It didn't seem like good drying weather outside.

One of the odd things about yesterday is that I didn't seem to find time for my traditional rest periods where I would lay on my bed reading, and sometimes having a snooze. Now I don't know why this was because I did very little else besides the laundry I described above. I guess I had a lot of stuff on the internet to catch up on. I spent some time reading technology news stuff, and some time reading the comic pages such as https://www.thedailymash.co.uk/.

I did spend some time transferring a few more of Jodie's old radio programmes from cassette tapes to mp3 files so that they can be played more easily. As I mentioned yesterday, once I had set up stuff like the recording level, and allowed time for the program to settle down, and not crash, it was mainly a case of leaving it to get on with it by itself for nearly a hour. There was one time where I spent a bit of time messing up, and getting right, the tape head azimuth alignment. To simplify matters I used a sharp Stanley (box cutter) knife to cut some of the plastic away for easier access to the alignment screw.

One surprising thing, if my memory is right, is that despite a lot of time when I was not exactly working my brain hard, and could easily be distracted, I seemed to eat very little. I did have a very light lunch of 4 rice cakes with salami on them, but very little else until dinner time. My dinner was the diced lamb I had cooked the previous day. yesterday afternoon I put the cauliflower and broccoli in it, and zapped it for about 12 minutes in the microwave.

Before serving dinner I gave it another 6 or 7 minutes in the microwave, and while it was steaming hot I added some gravy granules. I then exercised patience that doesn't come easy, and left it to cool down for about 20 minutes. It was still very warm when I ate it. Adding the gravy granules to thicken it up made it seem like a more substantial meal, and I didn't seem to want anything after it.

There was precious little on TV last night to amuse me. I did find that Sky Arts were re-showing the Mick Fleetwood (original member of Fleetwood Mac) and Friends show. I managed to catch it while there was still supposed to be about 25 minutes of it left, but after taking away all the commercial breaks it worked out to about 10 minutes of programme. That was bitterly disappointing - particularly when I think I missed the first 20 minutes the first time I saw it.

I whiled away a couple of hours last night watching another couple of episodes of the old Granada TV Sherlock Holmes, starring Jeremy Brett, series. I ended up going to bed at just after 9pm, but it was well past 10pm before I managed to get to sleep. By then the temperature in my bedroom had fallen to 28.5° C - still rather hot and sticky ! Like the previous hot night, I filled my cool bag (actually it is more like a soft box) with three frozen 500ml bottles of tap water, and three 500ml of chilled tap water. That help a bit to keep cool, and also kept me hydrated when my wet pillow was evidence that I was losing water in other ways than getting up for a pee.

I can remember just enough of one dream last night to describe something of my dreams. it was one of those pecuilar dreams that mix a bit or the erotic, or maybe potential erotic, a handful of disappointment, some frustration, and maybe a smattering of thankfulness that I woke up before it all completely went off the rails.....although there was an unlikely chance of a very enjoyable end. That is a big build up to actually not that much dream.

The dream was set in a house that I think may have been in Biggin Hill, and the inspiration may have been from real life, although in dreamland everything was turned up to 11. I was with three people. One was a very delightful and attractive woman. She was doing her best to really pamper me, but she was held back by one of the people being her husband. He was actually out of the room for much of the time, but the third person, another man, maybe young man, seemed like he was keeping an eye on us. Ultimately, because of this, nothing actually happened, but there were lots of little clues that more could have happened.

I think I woke up for my third pee for the night when the dream ended (or maybe it was the other way around). That was at about 5am, and I wanted to try and sleep for about another hour. It was a typical case of thinking I would never get back to sleep, and then suddenly almost an hour and a half had passed. I think on this occasion, having three pees in the night was a lot more to do with drinking water during the night, than any effect of type 2 diabetes.

This morning I had a wonderful surprise. my new blood glucose reading was of a reading I hadn't seen in maybe 20 years - just 6.8mmol/l. The old meter was not so good, but it confirmed my blood glucose was almost normal with a figure of 7.2mmol/l. I shouldn't get too excited because while Patricia was here we checked her blood glucose level, and it was just 5.2mmol/l. That is about right for someone who has no diabetes of any type.

There are a few things I will be doing today. One will be to have a good wash - both hair and body. To my utter shame I did neither yesterday. I need to go shopping in Tesco, and I am to do that before midday, although there is no special reason for before midday except it sounds sort of neat. This afternoon I may possibly go shopping in Lidl. I haven't been there for ages. I am told that they have not gone over 100% to self checkouts - the reason why I stopped shopping there (although it is also quite a long walk with heavy shopping). I am told (by Jodie) that they have a special on at the moment of a box of German Oktoberfest beers. It contains 8 large bottles, and is too heavy for Jodie. There is a feint possibility it might just fit in my rucksack. It could be a real bugger if it doesn't!
