Yesterday was quite cloudy. The sun
occasionally popped out now and then because
of gaps in the cloud. Although cloudy, it
was still a moderately bright day, and it
was still a warm day. The temperature was
five degrees less than the highs we have had
lately, but 25° C is still quite warm.
I think the weather is in too much
of a state of flux for any accurate
forecasts for today. The Met Office just
says it will be dull until 6pm when there
may be a few hours of light rain. The BBC
forecast almost got one thing right. They
predicted drizzle at 9am, but it wasn't
long after 8am that there was more than
drizzle. It seemed to be slightly more
than light rain. It seems to have stopped
now, but maybe drizzle will fall at 9am.
If the BBC forecast carries any more truth
then the rain could start with a bang at
2pm when they forecast a thunderstorm.
That could be followed by more rain, with
a few thunderstorms thrown in for luck,
until 10pm tonight. Both forecasters agree
on 22° C today, but the BBC say 23° C for
just a single hour at 3pm. Tomorrow may be
dry but dry. The temperature could be no
more than 20 or 21° C.
I am not sure why, but I find
myself describing yesterday as a
moderately good day. It was a day
where the most exciting thing was a
shopping trip to Tesco. I only did a
couple of other things, but the day seemed
to race by with seemingly little time to
do anything more. That isn't literally
true, but it does almost feel like it was.
After a day or two where I
interacted so little, or indeed none at
all, with the outside world, and in
consequence didn't both to wash, it did
feel exceptionally nice to get under the
shower to wash me and my hair. In one
sense, washing my hair was a waste of time
because it was another hot and sticky day.
In particular, walking back from Tesco,
carrying a moderate load, meant that I
started to over heat, and once I was home,
and had stopped moving, the sweat left my
hair dripping !
Just as a novelty, I tried drying
myself with a hand towel after my shower.
It seemed to work just as well as a bigger
towel, although it wasn't long enough to
grab both ends and give my back a good
scrubbing action. The reason why I did it
was because I intended to wash that hand
towel, together with a t-shirt and two
pairs of underpants, once I had finished
showering - which is what I did. I made a
point of not putting off finishing the
washing until too late in the day, and I
think I had it all hanging on the clothes
horse to dry before 2pm.....which I guess
was a bit later than ideal.
I was quite selective about what I
bought in Tesco, and I don't think I
bought anything that was bad for me (i.e.
high sugar content). After seeing fresh
stocks of my favourite low sugar (and
calorie) ice cream I bought two tubs of
it. Later on I found the Oppo website, and
that lists the ingredients, and the
nutritional breakdown of the ice cream. I
was surpised to see the sugar content may
be a half or even a quarter of many ice
creams, but the actual quoted figure was
not as low as I thought it might be based
upon my experience of it.
The one other little job I did was
to transfer 3 more hours of Jodie's cache
of cassette tapes with her old radio
programmes on them. As I explained
yesterday, the only work for me, doing
this, is to make sure that the recording
starts smoothly on the dining room PC, and
then come back at the end to stop the
recording, trim the ends of dead air, and
then write out the meta data, plus file
name of the mp3 file.
I still can't work out how my day
seemed busy considering how little there
is I did to describe, but I guess it must
be so because it was another day when I
can't seem to remember eating much. To
rephrase that, I did almost no snacking. I
did have a packet of two Tesco "Finest"
Scotch Eggs for lunch. And a bit later I
had four rice cakes with thin slices
(ready sliced) Edam cheese on them.
As usual for a weekday, I had my
dinner while watching the second Star Trek
of the day - Deep Space Nine. It was not a
good episode. In fact I find it hard to
remember what it was all about. Maybe
eating dinner was enough to distract me.
It was a very nice dinner of nothing more
than pork belly strips seasoned with a few
herbs and spices. In terms of fat content
it was mega unhealthy, but ever so nice.
The downside of that fatty pork was
to give me bad heartburn when I went to
bed at just gone 9pm. After laying in bed
feeling uncomfortable I go up and took a
couple of antacid tablets. Maybe half an
hour or more later I got to sleep. Last
night was notable as being slightly cooler
than previous nights. I only had the fan
on low when I went to sleep. Later, in the
early hours, my bedroom temperature had
fallen to
just 25° C, and I was
actually feeling cold with the fan on.
Most of my night passed with little
to remember. I think I remember getting up
three times for a pee, and a hazy sort of
memory of it seeming to take a long time
to get back to sleep (in reality it may
have been no more then 5 minutes). However
I do remember a dream - probably because
it was a bit alarming, and maybe just a
few points away from approaching nightmare
territory.
In the dream I seemed to be in the
road where I lived from the ages of approx
6 to 12 years old, although in the dream I
was an adult, and owned what was the old
house. I stood watching at two Jehovah
Witness types, accompanied by a plumber
seemed to come out of my house. I was sure
the front door was closed so it was pretty
weird. A little later the three of them
came down the road, and seemed to enter my
house. A few minutes later they came out
again. This time I called after them, and
caught them up.
The plumber admitted he he had been
hired under false pretences to break in.
He admitted that he didn't realise what
the two religious types wanted to do, but
later realised they were burglars. he told
me he saw them take my wallet from my
coat, and extract a few bank notes from
it. He very quickly drew a few old
crumpled notes from his own pockets and
gave them to me as a sort of bribe to keep
his name out of it. The final thing, which
was not completed before I woke up, was to
tell me the names and address of the two
religious types (they both carried bibles
with them).
It was nice to wake up and put the
dream behind me. On the other hand it was
not nice to wake up and realise that at
6.10am it is still almost dark now, and it
can only get worse until the winter
solstice. This morning I had hoped that I
might get another very low blood glucose
reading. The new meter read 8.0mmol/l, and
the old meter read 8.3mmol/l. Both
readings are below my typical monthly
average, and so must be regarded as very
good even if falling short of wonderful.
Today is a special day with regard
to deliveries. Between 9.47am and 11.47am,
or possibly at 10.47am, I am expecting the
big box of beers I ordered. Between
10.38am, and 11.38am I am expecting a new
"toy". Somehow it seemed like it might be
nice to buy a cheap mini-fridge to keep
chilled water in for bedtime. Now the
nights are getting cooler it might not get
much use for that, but it will be handy
for keeping even more beers chilled. This
one, unlike the current "beer fridge" even
has a tiny ice box for chilled glasses or
ice cubes for drinks. I think that until
next summer it will probably sit on the
existing beer fridge (or possibly under if
it is, as I suspect, bigger).
There is one more delivery expected
today, or possibly expected. Jodie asked
me if I could ask Michael to go to Lidl
(which I know he does go to now and again)
to buy a big box (10 x 500ml) bottles of
German Oktoberfest beers. Jodie will pay
for them on Thursday, but Michael said he
is going today, and I guess he may drop
them here today. The funny things is that
Jodie admits there is unlikely to be any
beer in the box that is not already well
known, but the idea of them coming as a
set seems important to her.
