There
was a lot of rain last night,
although it didn't seem to be
heavy rain. The early forecasts
said it should be raining again
now, but the sun is shining !
The latest revision says 9am
could be very dull, but the look
of the sky, white fluffy clouds,
and patches of blue, suggests
otherwise. The BBC says it
should by medium bright, and
raining now, and at 9am. For
10am they predict a
thunderstorm, but The Met Office
says sunny spells, and that the
heavy rain, with no thunder and
lightning, will be at 11am. It
seems obvious that no forecast
can predict what today will
actually be, although there is a
common agreement that the
temperature will be 18° C this
afternoon. On the other hand, if
it should turn out that there is
more sunshine than forecast,
then it could get a bit warmer.
Tomorrow is going to feel almost
cold at 15° C. There could be
random sunny spells and random
showers tomorrow - hardly what I
expect with June now less than a
week away.
Yesterday was
nothing like I expected it to
be. As well as not going for a
morning (or afternoon, or
evening) poo, I was also
suffering from really bad lower
back pain (maybe even hip pain).
I don't think the two things
were related, but I guess it is
possible. The two changed the
day for me.
The biggest event of the
day was a beer delivery that
happened a few minutes earlier
than the 2 hour estimated time
window that started at 9.23am.
It was because I had started to
write so early, and didn't have
a lot to say, that I was able to
squeeze in a shampoo and shower
before the beer delivery. Maybe
it was the hot water, which
wasn't that hot, but also all
the "exercise", like getting
into and out of the bath tub,
plus bending over the bath while
washing my hair, but it all
seemed to lessen my lower back
pain.
After my shower I tipped
the entire contents of my
laundry bag in to soak in
detergent. It was not a great
amount, and it turned out to be
mostly underpants for some
reason. It would not be until
mid afternoon before I got back
to that laundry, did the usual
three rinses, dunked it into
fabric conditioner, and finally
hung it up to dry. Had I done it
earlier I could have dried it on
the washing line, but while it
seemed warm and sunny for most
of the afternoon, it didn't seem
that great, and so I dried it
overnight on the clothes horse.
I have now described most
of my day. I never went out, not
even to the shops. I seemed to
spend a lot of the time reading,
and even having a snooze or two.
On reflection, there was one
more thing I did - it was a few
days of washing up, although it
didn't amount to much. Probably
washing Thursday's beer glasses
was the majority of it.
The biggest crimp on my
possible plans of going out -
either for a short walk, or
maybe taking a few train rides -
was the knowledge that I was
overdue going for a poo. I did
not feel uncomfortable at all,
but it was the anticipation that
something was bound to happen
sooner or later. It didn't !
Something that sometimes gets
things moving is a hot meal with
lots of liquid in it like gravy.
I could have, or maybe should
have had a can or two of soup,
but I opted for another single
portion of instant noodles for
my lunch. It had no effect.
Fast forward to
dinnertime, because nothing else
happened in the afternoon, and I
made myself a rather tasty
salad. On the base of a big pile
of mixed salad leaves I added
some ready cooked, and ready
sliced sticky* BBQ flavour
chicken, some baby plum
tomatoes, a couple of small
sweet peppers, some coleslaw,
plus a generous sprinkle of Aldi
oil and balsamic salad dressing.
I had two small apples for a
dessert.
* I was a bit worried that the
"sticky BBQ flavour" might mean
it had loads of syrup or sugar
in it. It may have had some, but
it didn't seem to cause any
blood glucose problems this
morning.
Saturday evening is when
Great TV! re-show all the
episodes of The Avengers they
have shown during the week. That
does mean I might have seen most
of them, or in at least one case
I had not seen that episode of a
long time, and that was my major
amusement for last night. I
think the last episode finished
at 9pm, and I went straight to
bed - albeit to read until
almost 10pm. My bedroom was warm
from the day's sunshine, and I
didn't get bothered by any
heartburn, so I was soon fast
asleep.
I think it was around 1am
when I woke up feeling cold, and
I turned the heater on low.
Apart from that I seemed to
sleep well enough that I almost
could have got up at 5am, but I
forced myself to sleep, or more
like a series of short snoozes
until it had gone 6am. I
can't really recall enough of
any dreams to describe any of
them, although for some reason I
seemed to think they were happy
dreams, but why they seemed
happy is a mystery now.
This morning I felt more
or less OK when I got up, but I
still have not had a well
overdue poo, and now I am
starting to feel slightly
constipated. I hope that is good
news because it must suggest
things are on the move at last.
Curiously enough, I do not seem
to have put on a single gram of
weight. This morning I weighed
exactly the same as the last
couple of days. Admittedly that
is almost a full kilogram more
than the best reading a week or
less ago.
My very first blood
glucose reading seemed very
high, but after the other two
meters read far lower I redid
the first one, and the second
time it matched the others. The
Contour meter, on second
attempt, read the same as the
previous two days, 7.7mmol/l.
The GlucoRX meter read a very
similar 7.8mmol/l. Only the
Sinocare read a bit different
with a still OK-ish 8.7mmol/l.
That latter reading does make me
wonder if the the first reading,
taken with the Contour meter,
might have not been that wrong.
It read a terrible 9.3mmol/l,
but I am going to blame that on
either a bit of contamination,
possibly some soap not fully
rinsed off my finger, or a
faulty test strip.
In theory, this afternoon
should be a beer tasting session
where Jodie and I will try a few
of the new beers that were
delivered yesterday. The only
fly in the ointment is that
there are no trains to Elmers
End today, where Jodie gets her
train. If she found such things
exciting she could get a bus to
Beckenham Junction where trains
from Catford Bridge are being
diverted while engineering work
takes place near Elmers End. If
Jodie comes today she will
probably get the bus all the way
here.
If Jodie declines to use
the bus it is possible I might
just get the train to Beckenham
Junction because of the novelty
of it. Once there used to be a
train once a day that went to
Beckenham Junction, but they
stopped years ago, and so
today's diversion is a chance to
do a novel train ride (and back
the same way). I hope to be
ready in time to go out this
morning to the local shops. It
seems that getting a bit of
shopping in Savers, and then
crossing the way to buy more
stuff in Poundstretcher, is
becoming a Sunday tradition.
