As I
write this it is bright and
sunny. At least half the sky is
blue, but both forecasters (Met
Office and BBC) say that it will
soon cloud over, and from 1pm it
will start to rain, although the
BBC say the rain could start as
early as 11am. The latest
revisions seem to show a trend
that suggests the rain will be
light rain, and maybe (fingers
crossed) no rain at all. It is
going to be a cool day with
forecast temperature similar to
the forecast for yesterday, just
15 or 16° C, but yesterday did
seem to feel warmer than
forecast. Tomorrow may be dull
and wet, with a similar
temperature range as today.
There is good news
about this morning coming later,
but yesterday was probably
merely pleasant, without being
exciting, although maybe it was
not that great because I decided
to get drunk from late
afternoon. I guess I can't think
of anything bad about yesterday,
but then again I can't think of
anything good either.
On second thoughts, there
was one thing good about
yesterday. It was that I went
shopping. Yesterday I complained
that I was technically
constipated, but that it was not
causing much, if indeed any,
discomfort. While feeling like
that I had a shower, and got
dressed to go to the shops. I
went to both Savers, and because
it is so close, I also went to
Poundstretcher. One particular
good and positive thing is that
this time I remembered to buy a
packet of 300mg dispersible
aspirin.
The aspirin came from
Savers, as did some toothpaste,
mouthwash, toilet cleaner and a
couple of nice smelly candles.
Over the way, and into
Poundstretcher, and most of what
I bought was food. I bought
quite a few pots/tubs of instant
noodles, and also one packet of
alleged "no added sugar"
biscuits. The latter were
particularly low sugar because
in the big box there were no
more than 6 almond flavour
biscuits - and they were quite
small biscuits. It would be hard
to have a sugar overdose on such
a small amount of biscuit !
It was a moderately
pleasant walk to and from the
shops. I was just in t-shirt and
shorts, and it felt quite
comfortable like that. There was
even a few rays of sunshine.
Rain had been forecast, and
indeed it did rain - but only
when I was wandering around
inside Poundstretcher. I thought
I heard someone, near the front
of the shop, say it was raining
again. When I came out of the
shop the ground was quite wet,
but it seemed like the sun was
shining even harder to make up
for it.
I can't remember when it
was that I heard from Jodie. I
think it was just after I got
home from shopping. I had sent
her a message to say that there
were no trains from Elmers End
because engineering works meant
that the trains through Catford
Bridge were being diverted to
Beckenham Junction station. She
had made her own enquiries, and
asked if we could do the beer
tasting today when there seems
to be a normal weekday service
of 4 trains an hour. I said yes,
and so we will be drinking this
afternoon.
I had already got the
place close to ready for some
boozing, and with no need to do
the finishing touches, such as
polishing the beer glasses, I
shifted into extreme lazy mode.
That laziness included just
having a few small packets of
crisps for lunch instead of
preparing anything more
healthy(ish). On the other hand,
I now know that most crisps seem
to have very little effect on my
blood glucose, and now they tend
to be less greasy, they are
almost low calorie too.
I spent the afternoon
almost doing nothing but quietly
reading. I may have had a snooze
as well. It may have been around
4pm when curiosity got the
better of me. While shopping I
had bought two or three more
little pots of instant mashed
potato. Last week sometime I had
bought two or three of them, and
had never got around to trying
them to see if it was worth
keeping a few handy. Yesterday I
tried one pot, and it seemed
pretty good. I think it was
fried onion flavoured mashed
potato.
It got to about 5pm, and
almost out of the blue I decided
I was going to have some beers -
lots of beers - very strong
beers!!!! I started with two
500ml cans of 8.5% beer, and
moved on to two cans of 9% beer.
Before I got too drunk I
prepared, and ate my dinner. It
was little more than a pile of
mixed salad leaves, grated
cheddar cheese, and boiled new
potatoes. I don't think I added
any tomatoes, and it didn't seem
to need any. It was quite tasty
just as it was.
These were the strong
beers I drunk yesterday evening.
They left me feeling a bit odd -
I knew I must have been quite
drunk, but I didn't seem to feel
all that drunk. I can almost
remember the whole evening, but
then again there was not a lot
to remember. It wasn't long
after 7pm, with two hours of
daylight left, that I decided to
take my book to bed, read for a
bit, and then go to sleep. I
might have been asleep by 8pm.
After drinking close on 2
litres of beer, it was obvious
that I would be getting up for a
pee several time in the night. I
can't be sure, but I think it
was around midnight when I first
woke up. By then I had a big
hangover, and felt pretty awful.
I somehow managed to get back to
sleep again fairly quickly. I
woke again about 2 hours later,
and I still had quite a
throbbing hangover.
Fortunately it seems my
liver is in pretty good
condition, and in the next 2
hours it cleared the alcohol out
of my system, and at 4am my
hangover was over. I was able to
better enjoy the next two hours
sleep. I enjoyed it so much that
I can't remember anything of it
at all. It just seemed like one
minute the sky was just starting
to brighten up, and the next
minute it was sunny outside.
The first of the two bits
of good news from this morning
was about my blood glucose
measurements. They were
exceedingly good ! The Contour
meter read 7.0mmol/l, and the
GlucoRX meter read 7.1mmol/l.
Both very firmly in the light
green, and almost in the dark
green. The Sinocare meter was in
the dark green with a wonderful
reading of 6.7mmol/l. Somehow it
seemed even better that that
sometimes unpredictable meter,
that often seems inclined to
over read, could give such a
great reading.
The other good news is
that this morning I am most
definitely no longer
constipated. After 2 days of not
going, nor even feeling that I
needed to go (although knowing
that I ought to be), I
definitely started to feel
uncomfortably constipated. That
didn't last long, although
actually getting things moving
did take an uncomfortable 10
minutes (or seem to feel like 10
minutes - it could have been
less). Once things were moving,
boy did they move fast ! It was
like uncorking a bottle of
champagne...well, sort of. I
made three visits to the toilet
in very quick succession before
I felt confident that it was
probably all over (apart from
the many flushes it is going to
take to get the toilet free of a
big floater).
This morning I tried a
new instant noodles for
breakfast. The pot pictured
above says it is 75gm - or about
half way between big and small
portions. I had once tried some
plain chicken flavour noodles
from the same brand and size,
and I think I think they were a
little bland. These spicy
chicken curry noodles are quite
nice, although I am not sure I
approve of the finely diced
carrot in it.
Most of this morning I
can be lazy right through to
when Jodie should arrive around
3.30pm to start on the beers
that were delivered last
Saturday. There is only one
specific thing I intend to do,
beyond reading and snoozing, and
that is to find some of my best
pictures of Miranda, Angela's
daughter. It is her birthday
today, and I should be able to
find some very good pictures of
her while she was singing with
The Life Of Brian, or back To
The Fray, to send as part of a
birthday greeting.
