The
latest revision shows the
sunshine really sparse during
the morning, and no sunshine
from midday to 5pm. The BBC is
far more generous with it's
predictions of sunshine, but I
fear it is far from accurate.
They say there should be full
sunshine now, and yet the cloud
is thick enough for it to be
slightly dull. Oh well, it is
still looking like this evening
will be nice and bright. It will
be a lot cooler today, and only
23
° C is
expected, but that is still
very comfortable.
Tomorrow may be as cool as just
21
° C, but
paradoxically there could be
more sunshine.
Yesterday was
another curious day. I felt both
good and bad, and often at the
same time ! One problem
was that having gone out to the
pub I was often reminded that
even on a very hot day I could
not walk far without suffering
angina pains, and that depressed
me.
I was definitely looking
forward to going out for a
lunchtime drink yesterday. I had
a good shave, but after only
washing my haor the day before,
I thought I could get away with
not washing it again before
having a shower. My shower was a
bit more comfortable since
turning the water temperature
down the day before. Odd as it
may seem, that allowed me to
have tepid going on warm shower
instead of a tepid going on cold
shower ! It is probably a bit
too complex to describe all the
quirks of my water heater at
this time.
I dressed in shorts, a
white t-shirt, and a pair of
white trainers I had bought from
Aldi ages ago. There was almost
no signs of wear on those
trainers, and I feared that
maybe I had not worn them
because they were very
uncomfortable. I must admit they
initially didn't seem
comfortable, but I almost
stopped noticing them before I
had even left my house. I left
in time for a slow walk to the
station, but as usual I found I
could not walk slowly.
I arrived at the station
feeling almost OK. I had arrived
early enough to have an almost 5
minute wait before I walked over
the footbridge to the other
platform. I thought that 5
minute wait was plenty of time
to allow myself to recover from
the walk, but evidently it was
not, although the fairly mild
angina pain started only when I
had walked over the bridge, and
was on the other platform. I
still had a 7 or 8 minute wait
for my train.
The walk from Ladywell
station to the pub starts off by
going up a staircase. Oddly
enough that extra bit of work
does not seem to bring on
angina, and generally the walk
to the pub is comfortable. The
worst thing was that when I got
to he pub I found a couple
sitting at my favourite table. I
chose to sit at a smaller table
that was nearer the door. That
was good in so much as it was
brighter there, and it was
easier to read the crossword
clues.
On the other hand, it
felt odd sitting at the other
end of the bar. It was
interesting being at the end
where Shawn (and his dog Stella)
was sitting. It made it a lot
easier to follow some of his
stories, quite a few of which
seemed like tall stories, and
while they might have been true,
some of it sounded like bragging
rites, and I took it with a
pinch of salt. Despite being
near many of the more vocal
people at the bar, I somehow
felt rather detached from it
all, and didn't enjoy it as much
as usual.
I finished the quick
crossword all bar one clue, and
solved several cryptic clues,
but those cryptic clues seemed
annoying, and I decided there
was no point staying for a third
pint. Two pints of Guinness
seemed as much as I wanted. Had
I checked the times of te trains
I could have left a bit later,
or done a very slow walk to
Ladywell station. Instead I
walked about as fast as usual,
and ended up feeling a bit of
discomfort, and I had 10 or 12
minute wait for the train.
I had a cunning plan that
was adequate to talk myself out
of walking home, instead of
getting the train. That plan was
to cross over, via the
footbridge, and leave the
station by the nearest exit it
the little Sainsbury's Local
store by Catford station.
Initially I was just going to
get a couple of their ready made
Greek salads - that are much
nicer than Tesco's attempt at a
Greek salad - but things
escalated !
While heading towards the
sandwiches area I spotted the
two snacks pictured above. Both
were very rich, extremely tasty,
and maybe not really that
healthy. Despite the colour of
the backgrounds, the sugar
content should have been in the
amber in my estimation for both
packs. These were not the worst
thing I bought. The worst was a
475ml tub of St Judes clotted
cream ice cream. Maybe the worst
thing was that I found it
slightly bland, and considering
it's sugar content, it was not a
great idea in the end.
Two other things I bought
were 4 packets of Soba, chilli
flavour instant noodles. They
are really delicious, and in
Tesco they are too expensive
(compared to other instant
noodles) and I only sometimes
buy a single packet as a treat.
For some reason they were on
special offer in Sainsbury's at
just £1 a pack. Right by those
packets of instant noodles was
pots of Kabuto noodles. It does
not say so, but the styling
gives the impression they may be
Japanese inspired, but whatever
they are, one thing I am sure of
is that they are not very nice.
The noddles have a very raw
flour sort of taste, and I can
imagine they were also on
special offer because no one
likes them !
The walk from Catford
station is a long longer than
from Catford Bridge station
because you have to go up and
over the bridge, and round the
corner to get to the exit from
Catford Bridge station. I felt
pretty rough by the time I got
home, and the walk included two
pauses to "get my breath back".
I soon settled down as I put
some of my shopping down. The
first thing I did was to eat the
ice cream I had bought.
As I said above, I didn't
think it was particularly good,
but maybe I was expecting
wonders of something. At least I
had a good excuse to eat it
because I was feeling quite hot
when I got home. The temperature
was easily 28
° C, and
probably as high as 29° C.
The BBC were saying it would
feel
like 33
° C !
Ice cream definitely slipped
down my throat nicely even if it
was not the tastiest variety.
One curious thing is that
I did not feel particularly
tired when I got home. After
eating the ice cream I would
usually have had a lie down, and
maybe a quiet read, but I
started checking pictures I had
taken, ande editing a few to
show here. Others I didn't show
were of a sandwich board outside
The Catford Bridge Tavern. That
said they are going to have a
battle of the bands competition
in August with a prize of £1000.
I believe it is a cheap way of
getting the bands to play for
free, but it could have a
positive side effect of
attracting some music lovers to
the pub. I just hope that all
the bands they might attract are
not rap, reggae, or
soul/disco/dance bands !
One lot of picture I took
were the now traditional fronts
and backs of every train I saw.
Sadly i found none of them were
trains I had not photographed
before. It was only after that
when I lay on my bed, and read
for a while, but not for long at
all. At 5pm there was the first
of three Star Treks that Sky Mix
has started showing between
their adverts. I barely made it
to the end of the first Star
Trek, Enterprise, before I
tucked into the snack packs in
the photos above.
It was still a long way
before bedtime, and I was
counting on that because those
snacks seemed very rich, and the
sort of thing that could give me
late evening heartburn.
Fortunately that never happened,
and after two more Star Treks,
an hour of reading, and an
episode of QIXL,
plus an
edition of Have I Got News For
You, I was in bed just after
11pm, and fast asleep maybe 20
minutes later.
It was a rather sultry
night, but apart from another
damp, sweaty pillow, I didn't
seem to have any trouble
sleeping. I can't seem to recall
any dreams, and I can't really
recall getting up for a pee in
the night, although I am sure I
must have. The one thing I do
remember is waking up just
before 5am. It seemed fully
light outside, and it was almost
as if it was time to get up, but
I fought the idea, and didn't
get up until just after 6am.
I am unsure how I feel
this morning. I don't seem to be
in any physical discomfort, but
I do feel a bit down. It is only
recently that the sun has broken
through the clouds, and until
recently it seemed rather dull,
and that brought my mood down a
bit. One physical annoyance is
that I can't recall having a poo
yesterday, and so far today I
have also not had one, although
maybe I am getting hints that
things could be moving soon.
One definite aspect of my
health this morning is that my
blood glucose has gone very
high. I guess that ice cream,
and the two very rich snacks I
had for dinner were mostly to
blame. Fortunately all readings
are under the red line, although
the Contour meter reading was
very close to it at 9.9mmol/l.
The GlucoRX readings was almost
OK-ish at 8.1mmol/l, and the
Sinocare meter sort of came in
the middle at 9.1mmol/l. I ought
to try and be careful what I eat
today.
The whole of today is a
bit of a mystery, as is my food,
although there are two definite
things. One is that I feel I
have to eat the second two
quarter pounder beefburgers from
the opened pack in the fridge. I
might have them with rice again,
or I might have them with
coleslaw and/or potato salad.
The second known today is that
Jodie is now in Finland for -
would you believe it ??? - a
craft beer festival. That is a
long way to go for a swift half
!
I doubt I will be
drinking anything today. I have
no idea how I will be spending
the rest of the day. What I do
know is that I have allowed
myself several diversions while
writing, including trying to
find a software update for an
old Canon camera I bought from a
second hand shop years ago, that
now no longer works. It is now
almost 11:30am, and I haven't
washed yet. I have not managed
to have a morning poo yet, and I
feel I am going to spending most
of today just being very lazy.
